EPISODE 206 - Casey

 

Southfork....

The sounds of sirens pierce the night as three ambulances and several police cars speed toward Southfork, their blue and red lights flashing, illuminating the darkness, and then turn into the front gate at the ranch on their way to the mansion, where a horrific tragedy has occurred.  Heather and Dylan are brought out of the house on gurneys 

and placed into two awaiting ambulances, both suffering from a gunshot wound.  Lucas, Ashley and Michael follow behind.  "I'm going with him,"  Ashley says as Dylan is loaded into the ambulance.  

 

"Are you a relative?"  One of the paramedics asks.

 

"I'm his girlfriend, and I'm going."

 

Just then, Ray's pickup truck speeds up to Southfork and comes to a screeching stop in the drive in front of the house.  Ray, Donna, and Conner emerge from the truck and rush over to the ambulances when they see Lucas, Michael, and Ashley.  

 

"Lucas,"  Ray says.  

 

"Ray.  Heather's been shot."

 

"Oh my God,"  Donna says.

 

"I'm goin' to the hospital with her."

 

"Dad, can I come, too?"  Michael asks.

 

"No, Michael, you stay here,"  Lucas tells the boy.  "There's no room in the ambulance.  You can come to the hospital later."

 

"But, Dad....."

 

"Michael, your father's right,"  Ray says.  "We'll follow you to the hospital and bring Michael."

 

"Dylan!"  Conner says, rushing over to the ambulance his brother has just been loaded into.  Ray and Donna follow. "Ashley, how bad is he hurt?"

 

"In the shoulder.  He's lost a lot of blood and he's in a lot of pain,"  Ashley replies, her hands and clothing covered in Dylan's bood.  "I'm going to the hospital with him."

 

"We'll meet you there,"  Donna says.  

 

Ashley climbs into the back of the ambulance with Dylan, and the door is closed.  After Lucas climbs into the second ambulance with Heather, the two doors are closed, and a few seconds later, the two ambulances speed 

away from Southfork, headed for Braddock Medical Center.  

 

Meanwhile, inside the house, the foyer and den are crowded with police officers from the Braddock Sheriff's Department, and the Dallas Police Department, as officers question members of the Ewing family.  Ray and Donna walk into the house and find Courtney and Jacob in tears, standing near the stairs.  Ann is sitting with a distraught Emma near the bottom of the stairs.  Both women are crying.  Then they spot Bobby talking to Sheriff Derrick near the doorway in the den.  Ray and Donna walk over to them, and on the other side of the room, near

the window, is a body covered by a bloody sheet.  Ray and Donna look at the body for a moment.  

 

"Bobby, are you alright?"  Donna asks.

 

"Yes, I'm fine, Donna, thank you."

 

"Bob,"  Ray says.  "Is that......."

 

"Yes,"  Bobby replies.  "It's Brian Manning."

 

"Bobby, I think that's all the questions I have for now," says Derrick.  "But I AM gonna need to question Jacob again."

 

"Derrick, I really wish that could wait,"  Christopher says as he walks up to them.  "Jacob is really upset right now about what happened."

 

"Alright, I suppose it can wait until tomorrow.  But, the Dallas PD might wanna question the boy, and I can't say if they'll agree to wait."

 

"Bobby, we're going to head over to the hospital to be there with Dylan,"  Donna says.  "Is it alright if we take Michael with us?  He wanted to ride in the ambulance with Lucas and Heather, but there wasn't room."

 

"Yes, of course.  As soon as I get everything straightened out here, I'm gonna head over to the hospital myself."

 

"Alright, we'll see ya there,"  Ray says.

 

"Okay, thanks, Ray,"  Bobby says as Ray and Donna leave.  

 

"Dad, are you sure you're alright?"  Christopher asks.

 

"I'm fine.  Just thankful this nightmare is over."

 

"Yeah, so am I.  Dad, excuse me, I need to go check on Courtney and Jacob."  Christopher walks into the living room, where Courtney and Jacob are sitting on one of the sofas, Jacob crying uncontrollably as Courtney tries to comfort the boy.  Krystina and Alex are sitting on the other sofa, both also visibly upset.

 

Christopher walks over to his wife and stepson.  "Jacob, it's gonna be okay,"  Christopher says, placing a reassuring hand on the boy's shoulder as Detective Craig Anderson walks into the room.  

 

"Christopher, I need to ask you all a few questions,"  Craig says.  

 

"Detective, can't this wait?"  Christopher asks.  "As you can see, Jacob is very upset by what's happened."

 

"I understand that, but, I do just need a statement.  It'll only take a moment.  Now the gun that shot Manning, it was the gun he brought with him, right?"

 

"Yes, it was,"  Christopher replies.

 

"Jacob, how did you manage to get hold of that gun?"  Craig asks.

"When Christopher tackled him,"  Jacob says in tears.  "The gun fell on the floor.  I didn't want him to get the gun again, because I knew he would hurt Christopher.  So, I ran over, and I picked the gun up."

 

"Did you point the gun?"

 

"I......I don't remember.  I just remember, it looked like.......Christopher and that guy......."

 

"Manning?"  Craig asks.

 

"Yes.  They were fighting, and it looked like they were gonna fall on top of me.  So, I stepped back, and I tripped over something.  I fell and, the gun was in my hand, and, I heard the shot."  Jacob stops talking and continues to cry.

 

"It's alright, sweetheart,"  Courtney says, embracing her son.  

 

"The gun went off when Jacob fell,"  Alex says.  "Manning, he......it looked like he was shot in the head.  I saw the blood, and then he just fell."

 

"Christopher, you and Manning were fighting when he was shot?"  Craig asks.

 

"Yes, we were.  Manning had his hands around my throat, choking me, and I was struggling.  I had hold of him when I heard the shot ring out.  Manning just let go of me, and he fell backwards."

 

"He was going to rape me,"  Krystina says.

 

"Excuse me, Mrs. Ewing?"  

 

"That monster was planning to rape me.  He was going to make Lucas tie everyone up, and he was going to rape me."  Krystina begins to cry.  

 

"Manning deserved what he got,"  says Alex.  "I just hope Heather and Dylan, and that other guy, Manning's brother, are gonna be okay."

 

John Ross pushes his way through the crowd and walks into the living room with Sue Ellen and Catlin.  "Krystina,"  he says.  

 

"John Ross,"  Krystina says as she stands to meet him.  The two embrace.

 

"I got here as fast as I could.  You alright?  Did Manning hurt you?"

 

"No, he didn't get the chance to.  I'm fine.  Just really shaken up."

 

John Ross looks at Craig.  "Where the hell is Manning?  I hope to hell you put his sick ass UNDER the jail so he'll never be able to hurt anyone again."

 

"That's not something you'll have to worry about ever again, John Ross,"  Craig says. "Brian Manning will never hurt anyone again."

 

"John Ross, Manning is dead,"  Christopher says.

 

"Dead?"

 

"That's right,"  says Craig.  "His body's laying on the floor in the next room."

 

"Well, I can't say I'm sorry to hear that.  How'd it happen?"  John Ross asks.

 

"I did it,"  Jacob cries.  "I killed him."

 

"What?"  John Ross asks, stunned by the boy's words.

 

"John Ross, it's a long story,"  says Krystina.  "Come on.  I'll explain."

 

As John Ross and Krystina leave the room. Christopher places a reassuring hand on Jacob's shoulder.  "Jacob, I want you to listen to me,"  Christopher says to the boy.  "Everything is gonna be okay.  What you did......that was very brave.  You probably saved my life, so I don't want you to feel bad about what you did.  The gun went off, and it was an ACCIDENT."

 

"I killed someone,"  Jacob cries.  "That guy's dead because of me."

 

"Jacob, sweety, it was an accident,"  Courtney says, embracing her son.  "We know you would never hurt anyone on purpose."

 

As Courtney cradles her son in her arms, Jacob continues to cry.  Christopher and Courtney look at each other, both worried that, after everything Jacob has been through in the past year, this tragedy could be too much for him to handle emotionally.  

 

Meanwhile, Ann and Emma continue to sit near the bottom of the staircase, Ann's arm around her daughter as she attempts to console her.  Bobby walks up to them.  "Emma, are you sure you're alright?"  Bobby asks.

 

"I'm fine.  I'm just......I'm thankful this is all over, and I'm worried to death about my son.  I tried to call Beth, the friend I left Logan with, but I couldn't reach her.  What if Manning was telling the truth, and his friend does have Logan?  With Manning dead, I may never get my son back."

 

"Emma, don't you worry,"  Ann says.  "We'll get him back, I PROMISE."

 

As Bobby is about to say something, Derrick, Braddock's sheriff, walks over to them.  "Mrs. Ewing, Emma,"  he says.  "Are you two sure that you don't need to be checked out by a doctor?"

 

"No, we're fine,"  Ann replies.  "Physically, anyway.  Emotionally is another story."

 

"Look, I know that this has been one hell of a night for your whole family, and I really hate to do this now, but, I have no choice,"  Derrick says.  

 

"Derrick, what are you talkin' about?"  Ann asks.

 

"Emma Ryland.......you are under arrest for the attempted murder of Lucas Ewing, and for arson,"

Derrick says, much to the shock of Emma and Ann.  Emma looks at Derrick in fear as he continues reading her rights:  "You have the right to remain silent.  Anything you say can, and will, be used against you in a court of law.  You have the right to an attorney.  If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed to you by the court....."

 

Ann watches in tears as her daughter is handcuffed and arrested for her past crimes.  

Braddock Medical Center....

 Bobby walks into the emergency department at the Braddock Medical Center.  As he is about to approach the nurse's desk, he spots Lucas and Michael in a waiting room down the hall and makes his way to them.  He walks into the room and finds Ray, Donna, Ashley, Conner, and Jimmy waiting with Lucas and Michael.  "Lucas,"  Bobby says.  "Any word yet on Heather?"

 

"No.  None yet.  They're trying to get her condition stabilized."

 

"What about Dylan?"  Bobby asks.

 

"Dylan's in surgery,"  Ray replies.  "They said he lost a lot of blood, but thank God, he was only hit on the shoulder.  It could've been a lot worse."

 

 

 

 

 

"Ash, I know you're exhausted and you've been through hell tonight,"  Jimmy says.  "Why don't you let me take you home so you can get some rest?"

 

"That's a good idea, sweety,"  says Donna.  "I'll call you as soon as Dylan's out of surgery."

 

"No,"  Ashley says.  "I'm not leaving until I know that Dylan is out of surgery and that he's okay."

 

"Ash......"

 

"Jimmy, if you wanna go home, then go.  There's no need for you to stick around here.  I'll get a ride home later with Ray and Donna."

 

Jimmy looks at his sister.  "No.  I'm gonna stay with you.  I haven't been there for you a whole lot lately, I've been so caught up in running Ewing Records, but I'm here for you now, sis.  And I'm not goin' anywhere."

 

Ashley takes  her brother by the hand and places her head on his shoulder.  

 

Meanwhile, down the hall, Austin Wentworth walks into the hospital and approaches the nurse's desk.  "Excuse me," he says to the nurse on duty.  

 

"Yes, may I help you?"

 

"My brother, Jonathon Lord, was brought in here earlier with a gunshot wound."

 

"Oh, yes,"  the nurse says.  "Your brother is in surgery."

 

"Do you know what his condition is?"

 

"No, I'm sorry.  But if you'll have a seat in the waiting room, the doctor will be out to speak with you shortly."

 

Austin nods, then goes down the hall, where he stops at a water cooler.  After getting a quick drink, he walks a few feet more down the hall, where Bobby spots him from the waiting room.  

 

"Austin?"  Bobby says, standing and walking into the hallway to meet the young man.  

 

"Mr. Ewing.  I.......the police told me what happened, and that my brother Jonathon is here."

 

"Yes, your brother Jonathon was shot by your other brother,"  Bobby says.  

 

"The cops also told me that... .....that Brian is dead."

 

"That's right, he's dead.  So you can go and visit your mother in jail and tell her that her monster of a son is never gonna hurt anyone in my family again."


 

"Mr. Ewing, I'm sorry for what my brother did,"  Austin says.  

 

Bobby looks at the young man for a few seconds, his heart softening toward him as he sees the pain in Austin's eyes.  "You don't have anything to be sorry for, Austin," he says with a sigh.  "None of what your brother did is your fault."

 

Austin is surprised by Bobby's words.  "Thank you, Mr. Ewing, for saying that."

 

"Did the nurse tell you anything about your brother's condition?"

 

"No, she didn't.  She said the doctor would be out here to talk to me."

 

A female doctor comes out of a set of double doors just down the hall, and walks into the waiting room.  "Excuse me, I'm looking for the family of Heather Ewing,"  she says.

 

"I'm her husband,"  Lucas says, quickly springing to his feet.  "How is she?"

 

"Heather is resting comfortably, and we were able to stabilize her.  Fortunately, the bullet passed clean through Heather's shoulder.  She lost a good deal of blood, and we had to give her a transfusion."

 

"And........what about the baby?"  Lucas asks.

 

"Mr. Ewing, I'm very sorry,"  the doctor says.  "But Heather lost the baby."

 

Lucas's heart sinks.  "She.......she lost the baby?"  He says, his voice shaky.  

 

"Yes.  I'm sorry."

 

"Because of the shooting?"  Lucas asks.  "Is that why Heather miscarried?"

 

"The trauma of the shooting was a major factor.  Mr. Ewing, your wife's condition also played a role in the miscarriage."

 

"Condition?  What condition?"

 

"Mr. Ewing, you're not aware that your wife suffers from a condition known as polysystic ovary syndrome?"  The doctor asks.

 

"No.  What the hell is that?"

 

"It's a condition sometimes caused by an ovarian tumor. It can cause high risk pregnancy, and often a woman with this condition is unable to carry a child to full term."

 

"Poly........I knew that Heather had had a cyst on her ovaries a few years ago, but, I had no idea she had this poly...."

 

"Polycystic ovary syndrome,"  the doctor says.  "I'm very sorry, Mr. Ewing."

 

"Will, uh, will she be alright?"  Lucas asks in tears.  

 

"Yes, Heather will make a full recovery.  And, in time, you can try to have another child.  Heather is sedated right now.  You can see her in a few moments.  I'd like to take another blood sample and check her vitals.  I'll let you know in a few minutes when you can see her."

 

"Thank you,"  Lucas says.  The doctor nods, then walks away.  As Michael begins to cry, Lucas embraces his son.  

 

Bobby walks over to Lucas and places his hand on his shoulder.  "Son, I'm so sorry."

 

"Me, too, Dad,"  Lucas says.  As he turns to look at his father, he sees Austin standing behind Bobby. 

 

"I'm very sorry for your loss,"  Austin says.  

 

The anger rising inside of him, Lucas walks over to Austin.  "You've got a lot of nerve showing your face in here. And I sure as hell don't want your sympathy.  Your BROTHER did this.  He's the reason my child is dead, and he's

 

the reason my little boy is missing.  Your family has caused my family nothing but pain, from all the things your crazy mother did to my parents to what your brother has done to me and my wife."

 

"Lucas, I'm truly sorry,"  Austin.  "For what my brother did, and for everything."

 

"Just GET THE HELL OUT OF MY SIGHT!!"  Lucas yells as he grabs Austin by the shirt collar, forcing him back against the wall.  

 

"Lucas, stop!"  Bobby says, grabbing his son by the arm.  "Let him go, son."

 

Lucas continues to hold Austin against the wall and glare at him anrgily.

 

"Lucas, let him go!"  Bobby says again.  

 

"Dad, please, let him go!"  Michael frantically says.  

 

Finally, Lucas releases Austin from his grip.  "For your own sake, I suggest you get the hell out of my sight," Lucas says.  

 

Breathing a sigh of relief, Austin quickly leaves the room. 

 

"Lucas, are you alright?"  Bobby asks.

 

"No, Dad,"  Lucas replies.  "I'm not alright.  Not at all.  Heather lost our baby, and it's all because of that son of a bitch, Brian Manning."

 

"I know, son.  But Manning is dead.  That bastard is never gonna hurt anyone in our family again."

 

"And what about Logan?  Where the hell is he, Dad?  What did Manning do with my son?  With him dead, we may never be able to find Logan.  Dad, I don't think I could stand to lose another child."

 

Bobby puts his arms around his son and embraces him.  Across the room, Ray and Donna are sitting on a sofa with Conner, watching.  Ray lowers his head and sighs deeply as he watches Bobby with Lucas.  

 

"Ray, are you alright?"  Donna asks.

 

"Just fine."

 

"It still bothers you, doesn't it?  Seeing Bobby with Lucas.  Seeing how close they are."

 

"Bobby's Lucas's father.  I know that, and I accept it.  No sense dwellin' on it now,"  Ray says.  He gets up and walks away as Donna looks at him, concerned.  

Braddock Medical Center....later....

 

 As daybreak comes at Braddock Medical Center, Ray, Donna, Conner, Ashley, and Jimmy continue to anxiously await word of Dylan's condition.  At long last, a doctor walks into the room.  Ashley quickly rises from her seat.  "How is Dylan?"

 

"He's gonna be fine,"  the doctor replies.  "There was quite a bit of damage to the muscles and nerves of Dylan's upper arm, but we managed to repair most of the damage.  It'll take some time, but I expect Dylan to make a full recovery."

 

"Will there be any permanent damage to his arm?"  Conner asks.

 

"No, I don't think so.  Fortunately, the bullet didn't penetrate but merely grazed Dylan's arm, but it still caused significant damage and blood loss.  Had the bullet penetrated, Dylan would have probably lost the use of his left arm completely, as the muscle, as well as the tendons and nerves would've been destroyed.  He's very lucky."

 

"Can we see him?"  Conner asks.

 

"Dylan is still in recovery right now, but you can see him as soon as we've moved him to a room upstairs.  But, he's gonna be asleep for quite some time.  I know you've all had a very long night, so, my advice is go home and get some sleep, and come back in a few hours."

 

"No,"  Ashley says.  "I wanna see Dylan first."

 

"So do I,"  says Conner.

 

"Alright.  I'll let you know when he's in a room and you can see him.  Excuse me,"  the doctor says, then walks away.

 

"He's gonna be okay,"  Ashley says in tears.  "Thank God."

 

Jimmy embraces his sister.  

 

"I feel like we've been here before,"  says Donna.  "Like history is repeating itself."

 

"Yeah, it does,"  agrees Conner.

 

"Well, sounds like Dylan's gonna be laid up for a while with that arm,"  Ray says.  "Maybe even the better part of a year.  So we're gonna be a man short on the ranch."

 

"I'll place an ad in the paper advertising for a ranch hand until he can come back,"  Conner says.

 

"No need for that,"  Ray says.  

 

"Ray, you just said we're gonna be a man short."

 

"I can pick up the slack.  With all of us workin' a little bit harder, we can get along just fine."

 

"Aren't you working hard enough already on that ranch?"  Donna asks.

 

Ray looks at his wife.  "Hard work never hurt anybody.  I been doin' it all my life, and I plan to keep on comin' hard until they put me in the ground," he says, then walks away from her, leaving Donna once again angry and frustrated at her husband's stubbornness.  

Justin and Pamela's apartment....later....

 Pamela is setting the table for breakfast at her and Justin's apartment later that morning when Justin walks into the kitchen.  "Good mornin', my gorgeous wife,"  he says, kissing her.

 

Pamela smiles.  "Hmmmm......good morning, my handsome husband."

 

"Breakfast smells delicious."

 

"Thank you.  I made your favorites......blueberry waffles, sausage, and grits."

 

"Oh, darlin', you are gonna spoil me and make me gain weight, I just know it,"  Justin says, taking a seat at the table.  "What time are you pickin' the kids up from your Mama's?"

 

"11,"  Pamela replies.  "Are you going in to Ewing Records today?"

 

"Yeah, I thought I'd stop by there and see what's goin' on.  Maybe after you pick the boys up, I can take you all out to lunch."

 

"I'd like that,"  Pamela says as the doorbell rings.  

 

"I'll get that,"  Justin says.  Getting up from his seat, he walks into the living room and goes to the front door.  He opens the door to find Jay Smithfield.  "Jay, good mornin'.  Come in."

 

"Morning, Justin," Jay says, walking into the apartment just as Pamela comes in from the kitchen.

 

"Hi, Jay,"  she says.

 

"Hello, Pamela."

 

"You're just in time to join us for breakfast."

 

"So what brings you over so early?"  Justin asks.  "Has a trial date been set for Tim?"

 

"No, not yet.  How can the two of you be so calm, given what happened last night?"  Jay asks.

 

"Given what happened last night?"  Justin asks.

 

Jay looks at both Justin and Pamela.  "Oh my God.  You don't know, do you?  Haven't you even listened to any news?"

 

"No, we haven't,"  Justin replies.  "Pamela's mother took the boys last so Pamela and I could spend a romantic and quiet evening together, so we haven't heard any news or anything.  We even turned our phones off last night.  Jay, what's goin' on?  What happened?"

 

Jay sighs.  "Something happened last night at Southfork.  Brian Manning showed up there last night during that storm. He held everyone who was home hostage."

 

"What?"  Pamela asks.

 

"Oh my God, is everybody alright?"  Justin asks.

 

"Yeah, was anyone hurt?"

 

"Yes.  My cousin Dylan was shot, and so was Manning's brother, Jonathon Lord, and........"

 

"And who, Jay?"  Asks Justin.  

 

"Lucas's wife, Heather."

 

"Heather?"  Pamela asks.  "Oh God, she's pregnant."

 

"I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but, Heather lost the baby."

 

"Oh, no,"  says Justin.  "Lucas was so excited about that baby."

 

"What about Brian Manning?"  Pamela asks.  "Did they arrest him?"

 

"No,"  Jay says.  "Manning was killed.  It's been all over the news."

 

"The mornin' news is on right now,"  Justin says, walking over to the TV.  He switches on the set, and the morning news comes on. 

 

Justin, Pamela, and Jay watch as the weatherman tells the day's forecast:  

 "In the wake of last night's severe storms, thousands remain without power this morning throughout Dallas County.  According to the National Weather Service, some areas received up to 6 inches of rain in just a few hours, and there were hundreds of lightening strikes across Dallas and adjacent counties.  One home in Braddock County was struck by lightening during the storm, and burned.  Fortunately, the home's resident, 66-year-old Ella Davis, managed to escape unharmed.  Flash flooding can be expected in many low-lying areas today as a result of the heavy rainfall.  Today, expect dry conditions, and lower humidity, with a high expected to reach only into the low 80s.  I'll have your full forecast coming up in just a little while.  Now back  to you, Brent."

 "Thanks, Wes,"  the news anchorman says.  "In our top story this morning, wanted fugitive Brian Manning, who was wanted by police in connection with the murders of several people, is now dead.  According to Dallas Police, Manning, the 25-year-old son of Katherine Wentworth and internationally known businessman Jeremy Lord, had taken several hostages at Southfork Ranch in Braddock, the home of the prominent Ewing family.  Details are sketchy, but apparently, during a scuffle at the Ewing home, 3 people were shot and seriously wounded, and Manning was shot and killed."

Shawn's apartment....

Meanwhile, Shawn is watching the news from his bedroom that morning as the news anchor continues:  "No one in the Ewing family was available for comment, but according to Braddock Police and FBI special agent James Stanhope, who had been heading the search for Manning, the other people injured were Heather Ewing, Dylan Ewing, and Jonathon Lord, Manning's brother.  All three were taken to Braddock Medical Center for treatment.  Stay tuned to this station for further details as this story continues to unfold."

 

Shawn picks up his remote and switches off the TV as Michelle walks into the bedroom from the bathroom.  "Boy that shower was refreshing," she says.  "I wish we could've stayed in there all day.  Hey, what's wrong?"

 

"I just heard on the news,"  Shawn says.  "Brian Manning, the guy who killed my father.........he's dead."

 

"Manning?  That's the guy who kidnapped my sister last year."

 

"Yeah.  He was killed at Southfork last night."

 

"At Southfork?"  Michelle asks.  "Oh my God, what happened?"

 

"Apparently, he broke into Southfork last night and took some of the Ewings hostage.  There was a fight or something, and Manning was shot and killed."

 

"Is everyone else alright?"

 

"No.  They said three other people were hurt.  I can't believe Manning survived that fall into the river last year.  I saw the son of a bitch fall, AFTER he was shot."

 

"Well, it doesn't matter,"  Michelle says.  "The bastard's dead now, for real this time.  That's all that should matter."

 

"Yeah,"  says Shawn.  "That's all that matters.  Brian Manning is finally burning in hell."

Dallas Police Department....

 Cass Winthrop is waiting in one of the visitation rooms at the Dallas Police Department that morning when Katherine is brought in by a female officer.  "Cass, what on Earth are you doing here?"  Katherine asks.  "Has there been any news about Brian?  And Jonathon?"

 

"Yes, Katherine.  Please, sit down."

 

Katherine takes a seat at the table across from him.  "Cass, what is it?"

 

"Katherine, I don't quite know how to tell you this.  Your son, Brian Manning...........he's dead.  He was killed last night."

 

"I knew,"  Katherine says, struggling to hold back her tears.  "Somehow, I knew when they told me you were here.  I knew it had to be bad news."

 

"I'm sorry, but that's not all,"  Cass says.  "Your son Jonathon was shot and injured."

 

"Jonathon shot?"  Katherine asks.  "Oh dear Lord.  How bad is he?"

 

"From what I've been able to gather, it's pretty serious.  He's in the hospital in Braddock."

 

Katherine begins to cry.  "Damn it.  I should be there with him.  I should be able to be with my sons, and to bury my son Brian, but instead, I'm stuck here in this jail."

 

"In light of the tragedy that's happened in your family, I'm going to speak to the judge about postponing your trial date a few weeks.  Katherine, I truly am sorry."

 

"Cass........where did it happen, and how?"  Katherine asks.  "Brian........how did my son die?"

 

"He was shot."

 

"Who did it?  The police?  Where did it happen?"

 

"Katherine, that's not something you need to concern yourself with right now."

 

"Cass, I have to know,"  Katherine says.  "I have a right to know how my son died, and where he died."

 

Cass lowers his head and pauses for a moment.  "It happened at Southfork, the Ewing ranch."

 

"Southfork?"  Katherine asks in tears.  "My son was killed at........Southfork?"

 

"Yes.  He took several members of the Ewing family hostage last night.  There was a struggled, and Brian was shot."

 

"And Jonathon?  How did he get shot?"

 

"The details are somewhat sketchy. but, apparently, Jonathon was shot by his brother."

 

"Dear God,"  Katherine says, lowering her head as she cries.  "And this all happened.......at Southfork?"

 

"Yes,"  replies Cass.  "Katherine, is there anything you need?"

 

Katherine looks at the attorney. "There's only one thing that I need, and that's to get out of here. Cass, you have to make that happen.  You have to get me acquitted."

 

"Katherine, you know I'm going to do my best."

 

"I want more than your best,"  Katherine says.  "I have to get out of this jail.  That's the only way I can make sure that my son's death is avenged, and I WILL see to it that Brian is avenged.......one way, or another."

Braddock Medical Center....later....

 Austin sits at his brother's bedside in a room at Braddock Medical Center, watching him as Jonathon sleeps.  Many thoughts run through Austin's mind as he watches his brother sleep.  The main thing on his mind is how thankful he is that Jonathon survived this entire nightmare with Brian.  Austin lowers his head and sighs deeply.  He then stands to his feet and walks to the window, looking out over the parking lot.  Jonathon begins to wake up.  Slowly opening his eyes, he looks around the room, at first confused about where he is, and spots Austin standing at the window, his back to him.  As Jonathon starts to move, he feels a stabbing pain in his abdomen where he had been shot, and he moans out.  

 

Austin turns around to him.  "Jonathon?"  He says, walking over to his brother's bed.  

 

"Austin,"  Jonathon says in a very weak and low voice.  

 

"How do you feel?"  

 

"Like hell.  Wha.......what happened?"

 

"You don't remember last night?"  Austin asks.  "And what happened with Brian?"

 

"Yeah.  We........we were at Southfork Ranch, at the Ewing home.  I remember gunshots, and, this terrible pain."

 

"Yeah, you, uh, you were shot.  You had surgery last night.  But, the doctor told me that he thinks you're gonna be okay. You're just gonna be in the hospital for a while."

 

Jonathon places his hand on his head.  "And Brian?  What happened to him?  Please tell me he was arrested and that he's in jail right now."

 

Austin pauses for a moment.  "No,"  he says.  "He wasn't arrested.  He's not in jail."

 

"Damn.  That psychopath got away again,"  Jonathon says.  "How many more people is he gonna hurt or kill before he's finally put away for good?"

 

"He's never gonna hurt anyone again,"  says Austin.  "Brian's dead, Jonathon.  Our brother is dead."

 

"He's........he's dead?"

 

"Yes.  He was killed last night during some sort of struggle, apparently after you were shot."

 

"Wow.  Our brother's dead.  I.......I'm not sure how to react or even how to feel about that,"  Jonathon says. 

 

"Me either,"  says Austin.  "Listen, I called our father in San Francisco, and told him what happened.  He's flying to Dallas this afternoon." 

 

"Thank you.  And thank you for being here,"  Jonathon says, his voice growing weaker and fainter.  

 

"Don't mention it.  You get some rest.  I'm gonna go for now, and I'll check on you again later."

 

"Alright."

 

Austin nods, then starts to leave.

 

"Austin?"  Jonathon says.

 

"Yeah?"

 

"Maybe, uh.......maybe, in light of what's happened, you and I could..........what I'm trying to say is, you and I really got off on the wrong foot.  Maybe we could just.........I dunno, start over.  We may never have a relationship as real brothers,but maybe we could at least not hate each other anymore?"

 

"I never hated you, Jonathon,"  Austin says.  "I thought I did, but, this morning, I realized I never did."

 

"You think it's possible we could ever be friends?"  Jonathon asks.

 

Austin looks at his brother for a few seconds.  "Who knows?  I guess stranger things have happened.  Get some rest,"  he says, then leaves the room.  

Southfork....afternoon....

 Sue Ellen walks into the foyer at Southfork that afternoon as Bobby comes down the stairs.  "Hello, Sue Ellen,"  he says, greeting her with a kiss on the cheek.  

 

"Hello, Bobby.  I wanted to come over and see how everyone was doing after what happened last night."

 

"Well, I suppose we're all doing as well as can be expected, Sue Ellen.  Jacob is still very shaken up.  I think it's gonna be a long time before he gets over what happened."

 "That poor child,"  Sue Ellen says.  "I can't even imagine how he must feel.  Jacob has been through so much, it breaks my heart to think of how this tragedy must have traumatized him."

 

"Mine, too.  And on top of that, what Lucas and Heather are goin' through right now with the loss of the baby."

 

"Bobby, I'm so sorry.  How's Ann?"

 

"Ann is very upset over Emma.  She's at the jail visiting her right now,"  Bobby says.  "I offered to go with her, but she said she'd rather go alone."

 

"It's almost unbelievable.  Who would've even guessed that Emma was back in Dallas, let alone that she was being held hostage by Brian Manning all those weeks."

 

"I know.  Manning........when I think of all the pain that punk caused this family."

 

"Bobby, are you sure you're alright?"  Sue Ellen asks.  "You really look tired."

 

"I'm fine, Sue Ellen, but you're right.  I AM exhausted.  I haven't had any sleep since yesterday morning, and I'm worried about how all this is gonna affect the family, especially Jacob, Lucas, Heather, and Michael.  And, most of all, I'm worried to death about Logan.  With Manning dead, we have no way of knowing where the child is.  I've got Bum workin' on it, and the police are also workin' on finding my grandson, but, they don't even know where to start."

 

"Is there anything I can do?  Anything at all?"

 

Bobby looks at her and manages a weak smile.  "Thank you, Sue Ellen.  The only thing I can think of you can do is be there for Ann.  I don't know what the outcome of Emma's legal situation is gonna be, but she's gonna have to face charges of both assaulting Lucas, AND the fire at Falcon Crest, so, chances are Emma is not gonna be able to worm her way out of this one."

 

At that moment, Donna walks into the foyer.  "Hello,"  she says.

 

"Oh, Donna, come in,"  says Bobby.

 

"I hope I'm not interrupting anything."

 

"No, not at all," Sue Ellen says. "Donna, how are you?"

 

"Well, truthfully, Sue Ellen, I've been better.  How are you?"

 

"Just fine.  Bobby, is Krystina at home?"  Sue Ellen asks.

 

"Yes, she's up in her room.  I think John Ross is with her."

 

"I'm gonna go up and see them.  Donna, it's wonderful to see you."

 

"You too, Sue Ellen,"  Donna says as Sue Ellen heads up the stairs.  

 

"Donna, how's Dylan?"  Bobby asks.

 

"He's going to be fine, thank God.  I'm really sorry about the baby.  I stopped into Heather's room before I left the hospital.  She's taking it hard."

 

"Yes, she and Lucas both are.  Lucas was really lookin' forward to that baby."

 

Donna sighs.  "Well, I'm sorry.  How are you holding up?"

 

"As best I can, under the circumstances.  I'm trying to stay strong so I can hold everybody else together."

 

"And you're always so good at that,"  Donna says, a tone of sadness in her voice.

 

"Donna, is everything alright?"  Bobby asks.  

 

"To be perfectly honest.......no.  Everything is far from alright."

 

"You wanna tell me about it?"

 

Donna looks at him and smiles.  "Thank you, but no.  You have quite enough problems of your own without me burdening you with mine."

 

"It's no burden,"  says Bobby.  "Besides, hearin' about somebody else's problems right now might just be the thing I need to take my mind off my own."

 

Donna manages to smile as she fights back tears.  "One of the reasons I came by today was to let you know that I will be staying in a hotel in Dallas for a while.  I'm not sure how long."

 

"A hotel?  Why?  Donna, what's goin' on?"

 

"Ray and I seem to have reached an impasse.  For months, that brother of yours has been working himself to death on that ranch.  I've talked to him until I'm blue in the face, trying to get him to slow down before he DOES kill himself, but it's no use.  It seemed like the more I tried to get Ray to slow down, the harder he pushed himself.  And, we've just grown further apart."

 

"Donna, are you saying that........you're leaving Ray?"

 

"Bobby, I don't know what else to do,"  Donna says.  "I love your brother, but I cannot sit back and watch him kill himself.  Now that Dylan is injured and gonna be laid up for a while, Ray is out there today pushing himself even harder than before.  And what makes it even worse is, he won't even talk to me anymore.  We have no communication between us, and he hasn't touched me in months, Bobby.  I have no idea what went wrong in our marriage, but, God help me, I can't keep going on like this.  I don't feel like I have a husband anymore.  At best, Ray has become more like a roommate.  A roommate that I only see for a few minutes in the morning in passing and a few minutes at night.  Bobby, I honestly think that Ray has either fallen out of love with me, or he's become bored with our marriage.  Maybe both."

 

"Donna, come on, that's ridiculous.  Ray loves you.  The two of you have weathered so many storms over the years, and you even found your way back to one another after thirty years apart.  Now, you can't tell me that man has fallen out of love with the one TRUE love of his life."

 

Donna turns to face him in tears.  "Then why?  Why is Ray doing everything in his power to push me away?"

 

"I wish I had an answer for ya, Donna.  Would you like for me to talk to him for you?  Maybe there's somethin' goin' on with Ray that he'd tell me.  Somethin' he can't talk to you about."

 

Donna sighs.  "I'd hate to ask that of you, with everything else you've got your hands full with."

 

"You didn't ask, I offered,"  Bobby says.  "I'll talk to him, but in the meantime, I'm not gonna have you go to a hotel.  You're more'n welcome to stay right here at Southfork."

 

"Bobby, thank you, but I couldn't impose like that."

 

"Donna, you're NOT imposing.  You're family, and the family needs each other right now.  So, will you stay?"

 

She looks at him and nods.  "Yes, alright.  I'll stay for a few days.  Until I can decide how I'm gonna handle this."

 

"Good."

 

"This is.........I feel a sense of deja vu.  Like history's repeating itself.

 

"What do you mean?"  Bobby asks.

 

"I remember another time, many years ago, when I came in here one night after I left Ray the first time.  I told Clayton and Miss Ellie that I was going to a hotel, and they insisted I stay here.  As a matter of fact, I believe I was standing in this exact same spot as I am now."

 

"Well, I've always heard history has a way of repeating itself."

 

"Well, in this case, I certainly hope not.  Because that time, Ray and I ended up getting divorced."

 

Bobby walks over and puts his arms around her.  "That's NOT gonna happen this time, Donna."

 

"I pray to God you're right,"  Donna says.  "But as much as I love Ray, we can't go on like this."

Braddock County Jail....

At the Braddock Sheriff's Department, Ann is sitting across from Emma in a visitation room.  "Emma, as much as I hate seein' you in this jail, I'm so thankful that you're safe."

 

"Mom, I NEED to get out of here,"  Emma says.  "I have to find my son."

 

"Bobby has Bum workin' on that, and the FBI is also involved in lookin' for Logan.  Emma, I promise you, we WILL find Logan."

"And what if Manning gave orders for whoever was holding my son to hurt Logan if something happened to him?"  Emma asks.  "I really screwed up.  I never should have come back to Dallas for my father's funeral.  If I hadn't, none of this would've happened."

 

"Emma, you can't know that,"  Ann says.  "None of what happened is your fault.  I've spoken to Jay Smithfield about takin' your case."

 

"He's so close  to the Ewings, I seriously doubt that he would ever touch my case."

 

"He said that he would think about it, but if he doesn't take the case, he'll recommend another good lawyer.  In the meantime, hopefully, bail will be set and you can get out of here."

 

"I don't care what happens to me, I just want my son found and to know that he's safe."

 

"I know, sweetheart.  And believe me, we're doin' everything that we can to find him."

 

"I imagine Lucas must hate me for what I did,"  Emma says.  

 

"Lucas hadn't really said much about you.  Naturally he's very worried about Logan and wantin' to find him.  But Lucas is also preoccupied with Heather bein' in the hospital."

 

"Oh my God.  That's right.  She was shot last night.  How is she?"

 

Ann fights back tears as she looks at her daughter.  "Heather........Heather was pregnant, and, she suffered a miscarriage last night."

 

"Oh.......God.  I'm so sorry,"  Emma says as a guard walks in.  

 

"Sorry, but your time's up,"  the guard says.

 

"Could you please me just a few more minutes with my daughter?"  Ann asks.

 

"I'm sorry, but no,"  the female guard replies.  

 

Disappointed, Ann nods, then turns back to her daughter.  "Emma, I love you, and I'm doin' everything I can to get you out of here on bail.  I'll let you know if Jay decides to take the case."

 

"Thank you,"  Emma says as she stands.  "Mom, I am SO sorry for all the pain I've caused."

 

"I know,"  Ann says with a nod.  She watches in tears as Emma is led out of the visitation room by the deputy.  

Braddock Medical Center....

 Heather is sleeping soundly that afternoon as Lucas sits at her bedside watching her.  Seeing his wife looking so helpless, and as he thinks about the child he and Heather lost, Lucas begins to cry.  As he lowers his head, Heather slowly begins to wake up.  Hearing Lucas's sobs, she turns her head to the right and sees him at her bedside, his face buried in his hands.  Heather reaches over and lovingly places her hand on his hand.  Lucas looks up and sees her.  "Heather,"  he says.  "Oh my God, Heather, you're awake.  How do you feel?"

 

"Lucas..........I............I'm so sorry.   About the baby."

 

"No, no, sweetheart, you have NOTHING to be sorry for."

 

"We lost the baby."

 

"Yes,"  Lucas replies sadly.  "We lost the baby.  Honey, I'm so sorry."

 

"I know how much that baby meant to you, Lucas,"  Heather says.  

 

"The doctor said that we can have more babies.  The miscarriage doesn't seem to have caused any permanent damage."  Lucas pauses for a few seconds as he takes Heather by the hand.  "Honey, I have to ask you something. If you're up to talking, that is."

 

Heather looks at him and nods.  

 

"Heather, why didn't you tell me about this condition you had?"  Lucas asks.  "This poly-something-or-other that affects your ovaries?  Why didn't you tell me that this was such a high risk pregnancy?"

 

She begins to cry.  "Lucas, I couldn't.  I wanted........I TRIED to tell you so many times, but, every time I did, I saw how happy you were about the baby.  About becomin' a father again and this time gettin' to be a part of your child's life from the very beginning.  And I just couldn't destroy that happiness for you.  I just kept hopin' and prayin' every day that I would be able to carry this baby to full term and we'd have a healthy son or daughter.  My doctor kept tryin' to push me to have an abortion, but I refused.  I just couldn't kill our baby."

 

Lucas lets out a deep sigh.  "I guess it just wasn't meant to be this time."

 

"Lucas, what about Michael?  How is my baby?"

 

"Michael's fine.  He's at home.  He's been wanting to come see you all day, but I told him he had to wait until you woke up.  So now that you're awake, I think I'll call Christopher and ask him to bring Michael down here, if you want."

 

"Yes.  I need to see him.  I need both of you here with me."

 

Lucas moves closer to his wife.  "Heather, I love you so much.  And I don't know what I would've done if I'd lost you has night."  He leans down and lays his head down next to her as he continues to clutch her hand.

Dallas Police Department....

 John Ross is anxiously pacing around the visiting room at the Dallas Police Department late that afternoon when Allison Jones is brought in by an officer.  Allison pauses when she sees him.  John Ross smiles at her, then takes a seat at the table.  "Have a seat, Allison," he says.

 

Reluctantly, she walks over and sits down across from him as the guard goes to the door.  "In light of what I heard on the news happened at Southfork last night, I didn't figure on seein' you today.  In fact, I hoped I'd never see you again.  I kinda thought maybe you were one of those the news said was shot and injured when that man broke into Southfork last night, since they didn't give the names of the injured.  Thought maybe you were hooked up to life support hangin' on by a thread."

 

"Sorry to disappoint ya, Allison, but no.  I wasn't even home last night when all that went down."

 

"Just my luck."

 

"Well now, we have reached the 24 hour deadline for you to think about the deal I made you, so, I trust you were awake all last night ponderin' and comin' to the right decision."

 

"John Ross, you can go to hell,"  Allison says.  "As you know, my husband is a very prominent attorney, AND  a former state senator.  He's also servin' as MY attorney.  Yes, I did do some thinkin' last night, and the more I thought about it, the more I realized that Mike can easily get that judge in your pocket disqualified and find one that's NOT on the Ewing payroll to handle my case.  He'll get me out of here.  I'm confident of that.  After all, the Ewings can't own EVERY judge in Dallas County."

 "Don't you be too sure of that, darlin',"  John Ross says.  "You see, my Daddy was a very powerful man.  Even though he may have lost some of that power in the last several years of his life, he still had a long reach and a lot of contacts, many of which he passed on to me.  Most of the judges in Dallas and the surrounding counties owe their careers to the Ewings.  So here's your last chance to cooperate.  Tell me what secret you and Kimberly Cryder share, or sit in this jail for at least a year until your case comes up for trial.  Your choice, honey."

 

"Like I said.......you can go to hell.  I trust my husband to get me out of here."

 

"Your EX-husband, Allison.  And you've just made one huge mistake.  One I'm gonna make sure you live to regret."  John Ross stands to his feet.  "You have a nice life locked up for the next 21 or so years."  He walks to the door.  "Y'know the biggest tragedy in all of this is that poor little nephew of yours.  I hear he's been stayin' with your ex since you've been in here.  That would've been a good home for him, but, too bad fam'ly and children services aren't gonna let him stay with Mike."

 

Allison looks at him, an expression of fear mixed with anger on her face.  "John Ross, I'm warning you.......if you do ANYTHING to Casey, you're the one who's gonna live to regret it."

 

"You're warnin' me?  That sounds like a threat to me.  And what happens to prisoners who threaten people?  Solitary confinement?"  He smiles, then knocks on the door for the guard.

 

"John Ross, I'm warnin' you!"  Allison says.  The guard opens the door and John Ross walks out.  "JOHN ROSS, I AM WARNIN' YOU!!!  LEAVE MY NEPHEW ALONE OR I SWEAR TO GOD IF IT'S THE LAST THING I DO, I WILL MAKE YOU PAY!!!"  She yells at him as he walks down the hall and  the guard comes in to restrain her.  "JOHN ROSS!!!!!!!"

Mike Morgan's apartment....later....

 Mike Morgan, Allison's ex-husband, stands at the doorway of his guest bedroom and watches Casey as he plays a video of Grand Theft Auto 5 on his Xbox.  Mike watches the young boy with great concern, worried about how all the recent events are affecting Casey, first his mother's tragic death in an accident, and now his Aunt Allison's arrest.  Mike's heart breaks for the boy.  Suddenly, his doorbell rings.  Mike turns and walks down the hall and into his living room as the bell rings a second time.  He goes over and opens the door to find a woman and a man there.  "Yes, may I help you?"

 

"Michael Morgan?"  The woman says.

 

"Yes, I'm Michael Morgan.  Who are you?"

 

"Mr. Morgan, my name is Diane Archer, and I'm with the Texas Department Of Child Protective Services.  May we come in?"

 

 

 

 

 

"Yes, of course,"  Mike says.  The man and woman step into the apartment and Mike closes the door.  "What can I do for you folks?"

 

"Mr. Morgan, it has been brought to our attention that you have 13-year-old Casey Myers living with you here?" Diana Archer says.  

 

"Yes, Casey's been staying with me.  Why?  What's this all about?"

"Mr. Morgan, I understand that you are an attorney, and therefore, you must know the law.  Casey Myers is an orphan, with no living blood relatives able to take care of him at this time, since his only living relative, Allison Jones, is currently being held without bail at the Dallas Police Station.  And that makes Casey a ward of the state."

 

"Well, now wait a minute,"  Mike says.  "I was married to Casey's aunt for a number of years.  I've known him since he was born......."

 

"Yes, but you and the boy's aunt have been divorced now for more than 3 years, correct?"  Diane Archer asks.

 

"Well, yes, we have, but........"

 

 

"Then you are not a relative of Casey Myers's,"  Diane says as Casey is standing outside the doorway to the living room listening.

 

"You can't just come in here and take that boy."

 

"Yes, Mr. Morgan, we can.  And as an attorney, you should know that we can.  Where is the boy?"

 

"Wait a minute, what's gonna happen to him?"  Mike asks.

 

"Casey will be placed in a group home temporarily, and then, he'll be placed in a loving foster home."

 

"Well, why can't I be his foster parent?"

 

"You can, if you file an application to do so and if you're approved by the court.  Now, where is the child?"

 

"Hold on, I'll get him for you,"  says a defeated Mike.  

 

"I'm here, Uncle Mike,"  Casey says, walking into the room.  "What's going on?  Who are these people?"

 

"Casey, these people are from Child Protective Services."

 

"Hello, Casey, I'm Diane."

 

"What's going on?"  The confused boy asks.  

 

"Casey, you're going to have to come with us."

 

"Come with you where?  Uncle Mike, what's going on?  I thought I was gonna stay with you."

 

"I'm sorry, Casey,"  Mike says.  "But you're gonna have to go with them for now.  I'm gonna do everything I can to get your Aunt Allison out of jail.  And if I can't, I'm gonna try and fix it so you can come back here and stay with me."

 

"Casey, why don't you go and pack your things?  We'll wait,"  Diane says.  

 

Casey looks at Mike, who gives him a nod.  Then, with tears in his eyes, the boy turns and leaves the room.  He goes into his bedroom, slams the door, and begins to cry.....afraid, his future uncertain, and his entire world turned upside down.

The Krebbs home....evening....

 Ray and Conner walk into the Krebbs home that evening after a day of working on the ranch.  "Boy, I sure am tired," Ray says.  

 

"Yeah, me, too.  I'm gonna get a shower, change clothes, and go and see Dylan at the hospital,"  Conner says.  "You and Donna gonna go?"

 

"Maybe.  I'm sure your brother'd love the company.  Unless Ashley's there, of course."

 

Conner smiles.  "She's bound to be there."

 

Ray laughs at the comment.  "Donna?"  He calls out.  

 

"Her car wasn't outside,"  says Conner.  

 

"Oh?  I didn't even notice.  Maybe she went on ahead to the hospital.  I wonder if she left dinner in the kitchen."

 

"I hope so, I'm starved."

 

Ray walks into the kitchen.  As he does so, he sees a piece of paper laying on top of the kitchen counter.  He walks over and picks up the paper, which looks like a note, which has his name on it, and begins reading.  A few lines into the note, Ray puts it down and sighs deeply.  "Damn it, Donna,"  he says.  

 

Conner walks into the kitchen.  "Donna leave dinner?  What are we having?"

 

"Dinner's in the fridge,"  Ray says sadly.

 

"Ray, what's wrong?"

 

"It's Donna.  She's gone."

 

"Gone, what do you ,mean, she's gone?"  Conner asks.

 

"It's all here,"  Ray says.  "Read it for yourself."  He hands Conner the note, then leaves the room.  Conner reads the note, then hurries into the foyer after Ray.  "Aren't you gonna go after her?"

 

"Why should I?"

 

"Because she's your wife, that's why."

 

"No way.  Donna made her choice.  If this is the way she wants it, then this is the way it's gonna be."  Ray heads up the stairs, leaving Conner in the foyer feeling frustrated.

Jacob comes down the stairs at Southfork that evening and looks around the foyer.  The boy walks into the den and pauses a moment as he looks around the room, reminders of the horrific events of the previous night everywhere. In one area of the room, the police outline of where Brian's body had fallen is still there, the bloodstains still appearing fresh on the carpet.  Across the room, all around the two sofas, more blood on the carpet and on the wall near the fireplace where the other victims had been gunned down.  Jacob closes his eyes, and the horrible sounds of the screams from the night before are so loud in his head as to be almost deafening. The boy walks over to the chalk outline of where Brian's body had fallen the night before......fallen at Jacob's hand. He 

looks down at the body outline and the blood on the carpet. Closing his eyes again, Jacob can hear the screams, and the gunshot.  In his mind, he can see Brian as the bullet ripped through the side of his face and into his head. He can see Brian falling to the floor, Christopher still holding on to him as they both went down.  The boy begins to cry as he looks down at the blood stains at his feet.  After a few seconds, he suddenly stops crying.  A look of anger and determination comes over his young face.  Jacob quickly turns and leaves the room.  He goes into the downstairs bathroom just down the hall from the living room.  Grabbing a wash cloth, he goes to the sink and wets it under the water.  A moment later he is in the kitchen, grabbing some cleaner.  A moment later still, Jacob is back in the den with a mop bucket half-filled with water, a wet wash cloth, wet sponge, and some bleach.  Going over to the spot where Brian's body lay, the boy gets down on his knees, opens the bottle of bleach and pours it into the bucket of water.  Dipping the sponge into the bleach water, he begins frantically scrubbing the blood, trying to get it off the carpet, but no matter how hard he scrubs, the blood refuses to come out of the carpet.  Scrubbing harder, Jacob begins to cry.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Christopher comes down the stairs.  Seeing Jacob in the den scrubbing the floor, he immediately rushes into the room and goes to the boy.  "Jacob!"  He says, grabbing his stepson's hand.  "Jacob, stop.  STOP!"                                                                                                                                                                                                                        "No, I have to get the blood up," Jacob says.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                "Jacob, no, come on, you have to stop this,"  Christopher says, taking the sponge away from him.                                                                                                                                                                                                                        "I have to get it clean!"  The boy cries.  "I can't look at it.  I can't stay here with it!"

 "I killed someone, Christopher,"  Jacob says.  "I took someone's life.  I'm a killer."

 

"Jacob, I want you to listen to me right now,"  Christopher says, placing his hand on the boy's shoulder.  "You are NOT a killer.  You were a frightened boy who was trying to protect your home and your family.  Brian Manning was a terrible person.  Jacob, HE was a killer, NOT you.  Manning murdered people, Jacob, including Ann's brother, Shawn's father.  Jacob, I've taught you how to handle fire arms safely.  I've also taught you to never touch a gun without adult supervision.  But if you hadn't picked up that gun last night, there's no telling what might've happened. Manning could've killed me, or someone else.  Jacob, you did what you had to do, and that's all there is to it.  You were very brave.  Now I know you're feeling a lot of guilt right now because someone is dead.  But if you hadn't done what you did, a lot MORE people could be dead today, people you love.  Brian Manning may have been my cousin, but he deserved what he got.  He was an evil person, Jacob, who did a lot of terrible and hurt a lot of people.  I want you to keep telling yourself that you didn't do anything wrong.  Jacob, if anything, you're a hero."

 

Jacob looks at him in tears.  Without saying a word, he hugs Christopher as Bobby comes down the stairs and walks into the room.  Bobby watches the two for a few seconds.  

 

"You go on up to bed, okay?"  Christopher tells the boy.  Jacob nods, then walks past Bobby and leaves the room.  Bobby and Christopher watch as Jacob goes up the stairs to his room.  

 

"Jacob alright?"  Bobby asks.

 

Christopher takes a seat and places his hands to his mouth.  "To be honest, Dad, no, I don't think he is. He's traumatized by what happened last night.  He feels terrible guilt about Manning's death."

 

"Manning was a monster, just like his mother,"  Bobby says.  "He got exactly what he deserved."

 

"I agree.  Jacob just doesn't see it that way, and it doesn't help that the blood is still on the floor in this room, and on the walls."

 

"I know.  First thing tomorrow, I'm gonna have this carpet stripped and replaced, and the walls in this room painted.  That's the only way any of us'll ever be able to come into this room again.  I'm just thankful Manning is dead, and he can never hurt anyone again."

 

"So am I,"  says Christopher.  "I only wish it'd happened another way.  Jacob has had one hell of a year for such a young kid.  And I'm just not sure he's gonna be able to get over this. I mean, taking a human life, no matter the circumstances...........that's a terrible thing."

 

"And nobody would know that better than you," Bobby says. "Son, maybe it would help Jacob if you were to tell him about what happened to you with Nicolas Trevino.  About how you felt after that."

 

"I thought about it.  I haven't talked about that to anyone since I discussed it in therapy with Ryan Benson.  Haven't even talked about it with Courtney. But maybe you're right.  Maybe if I share my own experience about how it felt to me after I killed Trevino, then, it might help Jacob. After all, when you've taken another person's life, you belong to an exclusive club and no one else can understand unless they've had it happen to them."

 

"That's very true,"  Bobby says as Lucy and Mitch walk in.

 

"Bobby,"  Lucy says.

 

"Oh, Lucy.  Hello, Mitch."

 

"Hello, Bobby."

 

Lucy walks over and gives her uncle a hug.  "Bobby, I just heard a little while ago about what happened last night.  Mitch and I, we turned off our phones and just spent the whole day together without any distractions, so I hadn't heard any news.  I'm so sorry."

 

"We heard that Heather and Dylan were shot,"  says Mitch.

 

"Yes.  Heather.........she lost the baby."

 

"Oh God, no,"  Lucy says. 

 

"Will she be alright?"  Mitch asks.

 

"Yes, the doctor says she'll recover.  Thankfully, she was only shot in the shoulder.  I also checked on Dylan, and he's gonna be fine, too.  Just gonna take some time for both to recover."

 

"Thank God for that,"  Lucy says.  "Where's Courtney?"

 

"She's upstairs in bed asleep,"  Christopher replies.  "With no sleep last night, she was totally exhausted."

 

"Bobby, the news was very sketchy on details.  What exactly happened?"

 

"Why don't the three of us go into the living room and have a drink, and I'll explain,"  Bobby says.

 

"I'm gonna go up and check on Jacob and Michael and then go to bed.  I haven't had ANY sleep since yesterday morning,"  Christopher says.

 

"Goodnight, son,"  says Bobby.

 

"Goodnight, Dad.  Lucy, Mitch.

 

"Goodnight, sweety,"  Lucy says, hugging her cousin.  Christopher heads upstairs, and Bobby, Lucy, and Mitch go into the living room.  

 

A couple of minutes later, Christopher walks into Michael and Jacob's room on the third floor.  Michael is sound 

asleep, but Jacob is still wide awake, laying in bed, staring into space.  Christopher walks over to the boy.  "You're never gonna get to sleep with your eyes open,"  he says.

 

"Not sure I can sleep."

 

"Well, you've gotta at least try.  Just close your eyes, and try to think of something pleasant."

 

Jacob sighs.  "When I close my eyes, I see what happened.  I see that guy when he fell after I shot him.  I see the blood."

 

Christopher takes a seat on the side of the bed.  "Jacob, I wanna tell you something.  Something I've never told you before.  But I know exactly how you feel right now.  I had to make the same decision as you once.  I had to take someone's life."

 

"You?"  Jacob asks.

 

"Yes.  It was five years ago.  There was this man named Nicolas Trevino.  He was a very bad man, and, he wanted to do me harm.  In fact, he wanted to kill me.  Trevino kidnapped me and someone I cared for very much at the time, and, to make a long story short, he was going to kill both of us.  I had to make a decision, Jacob.  A very tough decision, but I made it.  I got a gun, and I shot Trevino and I killed him.  If I hadn't made that decision to act, I wouldn't be here right now."

 

"Did it bother you?"  Jacob asks.  "To take another person's life?"

 

"Yeah, of course it did.  But once I realized that I had no choice, it became easier to live with.  Jacob, I want you to talk to Dr. Benson about this.  He helped me through what I was feeling after Trevino's death, and he can do the same for you now.  I'll call and make an appointment for you first thing tomorrow morning.  Hopefully he can see you tomorrow.  Okay?"

 

The boy looks at him and nods his head.

 

"Good.  Now you try and get some sleep.  I love you."

 

"I love you, too."

 

Christopher touches the boy's head, then gets up, and quietly leaves the room.  

The Krebbs home....the next morning....

  Conner comes down the stairs at the Krebbs home the next morning to answer the ringing doorbell.  He opens the door to find Bobby.  "Morning, Conner."

 

"Morning, Bobby.  Come in."

 

"Thanks,"  Bobby says, walking into the house.  "How's Dylan gettin' along?"

 

"He's in some pain, but, thank God, he's gonna be okay.  Doctor said he should be home in a few days."

 

"Well, I'm glad to hear that."

 

"What about Heather?  I heard she........she lost the baby."

 

"Yes, she did.  Thankfully, she's gonna be fine, too, at least physically,"  Bobby says as Ray walks into the foyer.  

 

"Mornin', Bob,"  Ray says.  

 

"Ray.  Could we talk?"

 

"Sure."

 

"Umm, I'll go have breakfast,"  Conner says, then leaves the foyer.  

 

"Bob, what can I do for ya?"  Ray asks.

 

"I just thought you should know that Donna's at Southfork,"  Bobby says.

 

"Southfork?  She said in her note she was goin' to a hotel in Dallas."

 

"That was her original plan, yes.  She stopped by the ranch to see how everybody was doing after what happened Saturday night, and I insisted she stay there instead of at a hotel."

 

Ray sighs.  "I see.  She said anything to you?  About us?"

 

"Yes.  Ray, she said that she's worried to death about how hard ya been workin' these past few months.  Donna's terrified you're gonna drive yourself into an early grave."

 

"That all?"  Ray asks.

 

"No.  She said that you won't even talk to her.  Ray, she knows somethin's botherin' you, but she said you won't even tell her what.  So if you won't talk to your wife, then will ya talk to ME?"

 

Ray lowers his head.  "I can't."

 

"Ray, come on,"  says Bobby.  "You and I have ALWAYS been able to talk about anything.  Now I know somethin's goin' on with you.  Donna's under the impression that you've either fallen out of love with her or you've become bored with you.  Now is that what's going on here?"

"Of course not,"  Ray says.  "That's the furthest thing from the truth."

 

"Then what IS it?  Something is going on, Ray.  Now ya can tell me to mind my own damned business, but you're my brother, I love both you and Donna, and I don't wanna see you throw your marriage away after all the years it took for you and Donna to find your way back to each other."

 

Ray lowers his head and sighs.  "Bob, the truth is, this is embarrassing.  The simple fact of the matter is, I just have to face the fact that I'm gettin' old.  I'm not the man I used to be."

 

"Ray, that's ridiculous.  You can outwork any man HALF your age."

 

"That may be so, but, there's things I can't do anymore that a man half my age can.  Things I use to be able to do."

 

"Like what?"

 

"Like make love to my wife!"  Ray angrily says.

 

"Ray, what are you saying?"  Bobby asks.

 

"I'm sayin' that.........for several months now, I haven't been able to........well, I haven't been able to be intimate with Donna.  I've tried, but it just doesn't work, that's all."

 

"Ray, are you trying to tell me your problem is sexual?"

 

"Yes."

 

"And that's why you've been pushing Donna away?  And why you've been working yourself half to death on this ranch?"

 

"If I can't feel like a man in the bedroom, at least I can still work like a real man on my ranch."

 

Bobby shakes his head.  "Ray, you have got to be the dumbest man on the face of this planet."

 

"Now what the hell is that supposed to mean?"  Ray angrily asks.

 

"It's that damned pride of yours.  Rather than tell your wife that you're having a problem being sexual with her, you'd rather push her away and have her think you've fallen out of love with her.  And you're trying to work yourself into an early grave rather than face this problem and deal with it."

 

"There's nothin' to face.  I've heard this just happens when men reach a certain age."

 

"Ray, that's BULL.  Yes, erectile dysfunction is very common in men over 65, but in most cases there's a simple cause and treatment.  It could be your diet.  It could also indicate a serious problem that needs addressing.   Ray, when was the last time you had a physical?"

 

"I dunno.  It's been years."

 

"Then don't ya think it's time?"  Bobby asks.  "Ray, there are treatments.  Pills you could take, or maybe even a simple lifestyle change.  But if ya don't do somethin' about it now, then you're gonna end up losing the two most important things in the world to you, and that's your wife, and your life.  Do yourself, and everybody who cares about you a favor........see a doctor and find out what's causing this problem.  Ray this is nothing to be embarrassed about."

 

"I know you're right.  Okay, I'll call the doctor and make an appointment."

 

"Good.  And what about Donna?"  Bobby asks.  "Don't you think you owe her the truth?"

 

Ray nods.  "Yeah.  I do.  Bob, thanks for opening my eyes and makin' me realize how stupid I've been."

 

Bobby smiles slightly.  "That's what brothers are for.  I'll see ya later, Ray."

 

"See ya, Bob,"  Ray says as Bobby leaves.  

Southfork....

 Christopher, Courtney, and Jacob walk onto the patio at Southfork later that morning.  As they head to Christopher's car, Gavin Murray drives up in his jeep and comes to a stop.  "It's Gavin,"  Courtney says.  

 

Getting out of his jeep, Gavin walks over to them.  "Hey, how're you guys doing?"  He asks.

 

"As well as can be expected,"  replies Christopher.  

 

"Yeah, we were just on our way with Jacob to see a friend of Christopher's, a therapist,"  Courtney says.  

 

"Well, look, I hate to hold you guys up, but, Courtney I need a word with you.  It's real important.  It's about Dad."

 

Courtney looks at Christopher.  

 

"Honey, it's okay, I'll take Jacob,"  Christopher says.  "Come on, sport."  Christopher and Jacob get into the car and drive away.  

 

"Okay, so what's so important?"  Courtney asks her brother.  

 

"I got a call this morning, just a little while ago,"  Gavin says.  "Dad's in jail over in Fort Worth.  He's been on a real bad bender.  He's been drinkin' pretty heavily ever since Ben died."

 

"Drinking?  Why didn't you tell me?"

 

"You were busy with Jacob's recovery, and I didn't wanna add to your problems.  I'm gonna go over to Fort Worth and see about bailing him out. Thought maybe you'd wanna come along."

 

"Gavin, I don't know.  Look, I have a lot going on right now.  Jacob is a mess after what happened here the other night, and the last thing I need is to get pulled into Dad's situation."

 

"I thought you had forgiven him.  Or at least softened toward him."

 

"I have."

 

"He's hurting, Courtney.  He's hurting so much.  Losing Ben nearly killed him.  You and I and Jacob are all he has left."

 

Courtney looks at her brother for a couple of seconds, then sighs.  "Okay, fine.  I'll come with you."

 

"Thanks,"  Gavin says.  "Come on, let's go."  The two walk over to Gavin's jeep and get in, then drive away.

Westar....

 

Shawn is working with his secretary in his office at Westar.  "And, here is a list of those properties in Harris County your brother was looking at buying before he.........before he died."

 

"Okay, thanks.  I'll take a look at these, and see if any of them are worth buying.  My brother may have been an ass, but he was a good businessman, so if he was looking at buying these, then they must be worth lookin' at."

 

A knock comes at the door, then suddenly, Pamela walks in. "Your secretary wasn't at her desk,"  she says.

 

"No, but it IS customary to wait for someone to tell you to come in before you just barge into a room," Shawn says.

 

"I need a word with you.  In private."

 

"Mr. Smith?"  The secretary says.  

 

"It's fine.  Leave Mrs. Ewing and I alone."

 

"Yes, sir."  The secretary leaves the office, closing the door behind her.

 

"What do you want, Pamela?"  Shawn asks.

 

"Obviously, you misunderstood me a few days ago when I told you that I wanted you to rescind that offer of a job to my brother."

 

"You mean when you threatened to have me arrested for raping you, which never happened?  I didn't misunderstand.  I just IGNORED your little threat."

 

"Did you think I was bluffing?"  Pamela asks.

 

"Frankly, yes.  You wanna go to the cops with some ridiculous story that I raped you months ago, then go ahead.  Who's gonna believe you?  Who's gonna believe a story with SO many holes in it?  It's your word against mine, Pamela, and you don't exactly have a reputation for being honest and morally upright.  You tell anyone I raped you, and I'll tell everyone how you, my brother's 30-something-year-old ex-wife seduced me, an innocent and naive teenager."

 

"You're a real bastard,"  Pamela says.  

 

"Maybe so.  But I have the upper hand here.  Look, your brother came to ME for this job, and I gave it to him, and there's not a damned thing you can do about it.  Besides, Brad's a grown man. It's none of your business who he works for."

 

"You may have the upper hand right now, but I'm warning you......leave my brother out of your war with the Ewings.  If you go after them, then do it alone, without Brad."

 

"And again, that's none of your business."

 

"That's where you're WRONG.  I watched my father nearly destroy himself going up against the Ewings.  I don't wanna see my brother going down that same road.  So just fight your battle with the Ewings without my brother's help.  If you drag him into this fight, I WILL make you pay."  Pamela gives him an angry look, then turns and walks out of  the office.  

Southfork..

Ray's truck drives up to Southfork and comes to a stop.  Getting out of the truck, Ray walks up to the house and

sees Donna standing by the pool, deep in thought.  He pauses for a few seconds as he watches her.  "Donna?"  He says.  

 

"What are you doin' here, Ray?"

 

"Came to talk to my wife."  

 

"Is there anything left to say?" Donna asks, in tears.  "I've tried to talk to you for months, and you brushed me off every time."

 

Ray walks over to her.  "I know, and I'm sorry.  Donna, I've been a damned fool.  Truth is, there was a reason I've been pushin' you away.  And a reason why I've been pushin' myself so hard workin'."

 

"What reason?"  Donna asks.  "You're bored with me and with our marriage?  You don't love me anymore?"

 

"Nothin' could be further from the truth,"  Ray says, placing his hand on her arm. "Donna, I've been acting the way I have been because, for the past several months now, I've been havin' problems.  Problems with being intimate with you."

 

"Problems?"  Donna asks.

 

"Yeah.  The kinda thing that often happens to men my age.  I was angry and frustrated, and too embarrassed to tell ya.  I felt like less of a man, so, I worked hard on the ranch to prove to myself I could at least do somethin' like a man.  A REAL man."

 

Donna turns to face him.  "That's what's been bothering you?  Ray, you could have come to me and talked to me about this."

 

"As I said, I was too embarrassed.  I already felt like less of a man.  Havin' you know about this problem.......it would've just made me feel even more like a failure."

 

"Oh, Ray,"  Donna says.  "Haven't you figured out after all this time that I LOVE you.  And nothing could ever make me stop loving you.  Whatever problem this is, whatever is causing this, it's OUR problem, and we'll work through it together.  Ray, that's what marriage is all about."

 

"I know that now.  I made an appointment with a doctor.  It's time I face this problem head on.  Maybe the doctor can get to the bottom of what's causing it."

 

"When's your appointment?"

 

"Tomorrow morning at 10:30."

 

"I'm going with you,"  Donna says.  

 

"I'd like that.  In the meantime, how about comin' home with me?"

 

Donna nods and smiles.  "And I'd like THAT,"  she says, then kisses him.

Fort Worth....

Courtney and Gavin walk out of the Fort Worth city jail early in the afternoon with their father, Andrew Murray, after bailing him out.  "I appreciate you two comin' to get me, but it wasn't necessary,"  Andrew says.

 

"So what should we have done, just let you stay in jail?"  Gavin asks.

 

"Sure, why not?"

 

"What is wrong with you, anyway?"  Courtney asks.  "Why are you drinking your life away?"

 

"Why shouldn't I?"

 

"Alright, Dad, you're coming back to Dallas with us,"  Gavin says.  "You can stay with me at the bunkhouse at Southfork, if it's okay with Courtney."

 

"I think that's the best place for him."

 

"Okay, fine, whatever,"  Andrew says, not seeming to care one way or another what happens to him.  

 

"We'll swing by the motel and get your things,"  Gavin says as the three get into his jeep.  A few seconds later, Gavin's jeep drives away from the jail.

Southfork....afternoon....

 Bobby and Christopher are riding their horses down a road that cuts through one of Southfork's many pastures later that afternoon surveying the effects of all the rainfall from a couple of nights earlier.  "Would you look at that?"  Bobby asks.  "I can't remember the last time we've seen that much rainfall at one time here at Southfork."

 

"Yeah, gonna take several days for these fields to dry out."

 

"Well, I'm sure not complaining.  For the rest of the summer, we may not see a drop of rain, so I'm grateful for whatever we can get now.  So how'd Jacob's appointment with Ryan go this morning?"

 

"I guess it went okay.  Jacob was pretty quiet after we left Ryan's office.  But I did talk to him last night about what we discussed."

 

"You mean about what happened with you and Nicolas Trevino?"  Bobby asks.

 

"Yeah.  I explained to him that, sometimes we all have to make very difficult choices.  Hopefully, explaining to him what I went through will help him.  That, and talking to Ryan.  Therapy sure helped me get through those nightmares I was having after Nicolas's death."

 

"Well, in one very important sense, Jacob is very lucky.  Like you, he has the love and support of this family, and that will help him get through just about anything,"  Bobby says.

 

"I sure hope so.  Dad, what do you think's gonna happen with Emma?"

 

Bobby sighs.  "Hard to say.  Her arraignment hearing is tomorrow mornin'."

 

"Are you gonna go?"  Christopher asks.

 

"No.  Ann and I had a long talk about this, and, I understand why she has to be there and support Emma.  After all, she's Ann's daughter, and she has to try and help her any way she can.  And Ann understands why I CAN'T support Emma.  After what Emma did to your brother, I'm sorry, but I can't say I want her to get out of jail."

 

"Is this gonna cause problems between you and Ann again?  Her helping and supporting Emma, and you wanting to see Emma punished for what she did to Lucas?"

 

"I dunno.  I sure hope not, but I can't help how I feel,"  Bobby replies as he and Christopher continue down the little dirt road.

Dallas Police Department....

 "I've petitioned the court to become Casey's legal guardian while you're in here,"  Mike Morgan tells Allison as he visits her in jail that afternoon.  "Hopefully, soon, Casey will be back with me."

 

"Mike, thank you for everything that you're doing.  For me, and for Casey."

 

"It's no problem, Allison.  The court should approve me as Casey's legal guardian, since you and I were married."

 

"Damn that John Ross Ewing."

 

"John Ross Ewing?"  Mike asks.  

 

"This whole thing is his fault."

 

"Allison, I know you believe that Ewing is the one who turned you in for insider trading.  But we have no proof of that."

 

"I know it was him.  And he had that damned judge in his pocket."

 

"I've petitioned to  have another judge review your case.  Now this could take some time, a few days at least.  In the meantime, just sit tight."

 

"Sit tight?"  Allison asks.  "Do I have a choice?  Mike, where is Casey?  Where did they take him?"

 

"Right now, he's in a center for kids waiting to go into foster care."

 

"Can you please go and check on him for me?"

 

"Yes.  I'll do that.  Allison, I know it's hard, but try not to worry.  If I can somehow prove a connection between Judge Hooker and John Ross Ewing, and that Ewing somehow coerced Hooker into denying your bail without just cause, another judge might reverse Hooker's decision and grant you bail.  Just keep trying to think positively."

 

Allison closes her eyes and nods.  "I'll try."

 

"In the meantime, I'm gonna stop by the center and check in on Casey.  Is there anything you want me to tell him?"

 

"Yes.  Tell him........tell him I love him very much and that.......tell him not to worry, that we'll see each other real soon."

 

"I will.  I'll be back to see you tomorrow, after I've had a chance to file a petition with the court to get Hooker's decision reversed."  Mike stands from his seat.  He smiles at her, then leaves.

 

Allison begins to cry.  "I'm so sorry, Casey,"  she says.  "I did it for you.  All of this is for you."  She knows she will probably remain stuck in jail, but she also realizes she had no choice but to refuse to give in to John Ross's blackmail.  Allison knows she can never reveal the secret she and Kimberly share, for her own sake, and also to protect Casey from the terrible truth surrounding his birth.

Kimberly Cryder's home....

 "I'll get it, Rosa,"  Kimberly Cryder says, coming down the stairs of her mansion as her doorbell rings.  Kimberly goes to the door, opens it,and she is surprised to see John Ross there.  

 

"Well, good afternoon, Kimberly,"  John Ross cheerfully says.

 

"Oh my God, you're the LAST thing I need today.  Just go away, John Ross,"  Kimberly says, attempting to close the door in his face.

 

"Now hold on,"  John Ross says, grabbing the door to prevent Kimberly from closing it.  "Is that any way to treat a guest?"  He walks into the home.  

 

"Whatever you want, make it quick, and leave.  I have a busy afternoon ahead."

 

"And would that busy afternoon include goin' to see your old pal and partner in crime, Allison Jones, in jail?"

 

"I don't have time for this.  Show yourself out."

 

"We're not done here,"  John Ross says.  "Kimberly, I came by to make you an offer.  You still own a substantial share of stock in Westar.  I'd like to buy those shares."

 

Kimberly laughs.  "You must be out of your mind.  Even if I were interested in selling my shares of Westar, you are the LAST person I would ever sell them to."

 

"Well, we can do this the easy way, or we can do it the hard way.  I'm bound and determined to get those shares, one way or another.  Y'see, Kimberly, I was hopin' that Allison would cooperate with me and tell me the little secret you and she share, but she wouldn't.  But I am gonna find out what that secret is, and when I do........you'll have no choice but to part with those shares.  Of course, you can just sell 'em to me now, and whatever your secret will remain just that, a secret."

 

Kimberly's heart sinks.  "You're just wasting your time.  There's NOTHING for you to find."

 

"You'll forgive me if I don't take your word for that.  I know you and Allison are hidin' somethin' big.  So big in fact, that she'd rather stay in jail than reveal what that secret is.  And now that your co-conspirator is locked away in jail, you're in it all by yourself, Kimberly.  So you could save us both some time and trouble by just agreein' to sell me those shares."

 

"You go to hell, John Ross,"  Kimberly angrily says.  "My father left me those shares, and they're one of the only things I have left to remember him by.  I'll be damned if I'll let them go, especially to you."

 

"You really wanna do this, huh?  Okay, fine by me.  Then I'm gonna just keep diggin' until I find out what you and Allison are hidin' and when I do, I'm gonna expose it."

 

"You miserable son of a bitch."

 

John Ross smiles.  "Just to show you I'm not heartless, I'm gonna give you a little time to think about this.  The same amount of time I gave Allison.......24 hours.  You better think long and hard and hopefully, you'll come to the right decision."

 

"Get out.  Get the HELL out of my house!"

 

"I'll see this time tomorrow.  And I hope we can do business."  John Ross smiles again, then turns to leave.  As he opens the front door, he is surprised when he comes face to face with Jill, who is standing at the door with a suitcase.  

 

"John Ross,"  she says.

 

"Well, look who's here,"  John Ross says.  

 

"John Ross, what are you doing here at my mother's house?"

 

"Just dropped in to pay your Mama a little visit."

 

"Jill, sweetheart, why didn't you call and let me know you were coming?"  Kimberly asks.  

 

"Well, it was kind of a spur of the moment thing,"  Jill says, walking into the house.  

 

"Jill, how long you in town for?"  John Ross asks.

 

"Well, right now, I'm not real sure.  It's kind of open-ended,"  Jill replies.

 

"Oh, well, give me a call later.  We can have lunch maybe tomorrow and catch up."

 

"Yeah, I'd like that."

 

"Good, I look forward to that,"  says John Ross.  "Kimberly, I'll be talkin' to you soon.  Jill, sure great to have ya back in Dallas."

 

"Thanks, John Ross,"  Jill says as he leaves.  

 

"Sweetheart, I'm so happy to see you,"  Kimberly says, giving her daughter a hug.  

 

"I'm happy to see you, too Mom."

 

"I admit, though, I'm surprised.  You said this was a spur of the moment trip?  Honey, is anything wrong?  You don't seem quite yourself."

 

Jill looks at her mother and sighs.  "I just needed to come home for a while.  Long story short, Mom, I had been dating this guy in L.A., and I thought things were going well between us.  In fact, I was even beginning to develop very strong feelings for him."

 

"And what happened?"  Kimberly asks.

 

"He turned out to be a real jerk.  Who knows, maybe it was too soon after my divorce for me to start dating again. I just needed to get out of L.A. for a while."

 

"Well, you're home now, and I'm happy about that.  I'll have Carl come and take your bags up to your old room."

 

"Thanks, Mom.  But first, tell me something."

 

"Tell you what?"  Kimberly asks.

 

"Exactly what was John Ross doing here?"

 

Kimberly looks at her daughter, unsure of how to answer Jill's question.  

Dept. of Family Services, Foster Care Center....

 Mike Morgan is sitting in a waiting room at the foster care center in Dallas, waiting to see Casey.  As he waits, he is flipping through a magazine.  After he has waited for a while, Diane Archer, the case worker in charge of Casey, comes out to speak to him.  "Mr. Morgan,"  she says.  

 

"Yes,"  Mike says, standing from his seat.  

 

"I'm very sorry, but, we have a problem."

 

"A problem?  What problem?  Where's Casey?"

 

"I'm afraid Casey is missing,"  Diane Archer replies.  

 

"Missing?  What the hell do you mean he's MISSING?"

 

"Casey seems to have run away..  We've already called the police."

 

"Oh my God,"  says Mike.  "Damn it, Casey, where are you?"

Meanwhile....a road in Braddock....

 Meanwhile, Lucy is driving down Braddock Road on her way home to Southfork from her volunteer job at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, and she is singing along to Linda Ronstadt's classic tune, Love Is A Rose.  As  she drives, she spots the figure of a young boy who looks about 12 or 13 walking along the side of the road, holding his thumb out trying to get a ride.  Worried about the youngster and wondering why he is out here hitchhiking all alone, she pulls over.  As her car comes to a stop just ahead of him, Casey Myers runs over to the car, and opens the front passenger door.  "Hi, you need a lift?"  Lucy asks.

 

"Yeah, I do."

 

"Hop in."

 

"Thanks, lady,"  Casey says, getting into the car.  He closes the door and puts on his seat belt.  

 

"My name's Lucy.  What's yours?"

 

"Casey."

 

"So where ya headed, Casey?"  Lucy asks.

 

"Braddock City Cemetery."

 

"Sure thing,"  Lucy says as they drive off.  

A cemetery in Braddock....a short time later....

 Lucy brings her car to a stop in the Braddock Cemetery twenty minutes later.  She and Casey get out of the car, and Lucy watches the boy as he walks over to a grave not far from where she is parked.  Casey goes to the grave

of his mother, Karen, and looks down at it.  "Hi, Mom, it's me,"  he says.  "I know you told me once never to get into a car with a stranger, but, I didn't know any other way to get here.  This really nice lady gave me a ride.  I'm scared, Mom.  More scared than I've ever been in my whole life.  I don't know what to do.  First, you were gone, and I went to stay with Aunt Allison.  Then, Aunt Allison got put in jail for something, I'm not real sure what.  I was staying with Uncle Mike, but, they took me away from him.  They said I couldn't stay with him.  Mom, I'm so scared, I don't know where to go or what to do.  I miss you so much, and I wish you were here."

 

Lucy watches Casey for a few moments, then walks over to him.  "Is that your mother?"

 

"Yeah," Casey replies, sadly.  

 

"I'm sorry."

 

"Thanks."

 

"You and your Mom must've been really close,"  Lucy says.  

 

"We were.  She was the greatest, but, I never told her that.  I treated her pretty bad."

 

"I'm sure that's not true."

 

"It is."

 

"What about your father?"  Lucy asks.  

 

"He's there,"  Casey says, pointing to a grave marker

beside Karen's.  Lucy looks and sees the grave of Karen's late husband, Jeffrey Myers.  

 

"Oh, Casey, I'm so sorry,"  she says, her heart breaking for the child.  "Who are you living with?"

 

 

 "I was living with my Aunt Allison until a few days ago,"  the boy replies.  "She got arrested.  After that I was with her ex-husband, my Uncle Mike."

 

"But you're not with him anymore?"  Lucy asks.

 

"No.  Yesterday these people came and took me away.  Said I couldn't live with Uncle Mike because he's not really my family, so they took me to this center."

 

"A foster care center?"

 

"I guess that's what it's called."

 

"Oh, you poor baby."

 

"But I'm not going back there!"  Casey says adamantly.  "I won't, and you can't make me!  I hated it there.  If I have to go back, I'll just run away again!"

 

"No, sweety, I'm not gonna make you go back.  Don't you have any other family you could stay with?"

 

"No.  Just my Aunt Allison, and like I said, she's in jail."

 

"Casey, are you hungry?"  Lucy asks.

 

"Yeah, real hungry."

 

"Come on.  I'm gonna take you home with me and give you a nice meal."

 

"Thank you, ma'am, but I can't.  I appreciate the ride and all, but I don't even know you."

 

"It's alright.  I promise, I'm not a kidnapper or a pervert or anything like that, so you can trust me.  And you ARE hungry, right?"

 

 

"Sure am,"  Casey replies.

 

"Alright, then, let's go."

 

"Thanks, Lucy,"  the boy says, almost surprised that a total stranger was being so nice to him.  

 

 

 

 

 

Lucy smiles.  "You're welcome, Casey.  Come on, let's go." 

 

Lucy and Casey go back to her car and get in. A few seconds later, they drive off.

 

 

 

 

 

Southfork....

 Lucy's car comes to a stop at Southfork a short time later.  Casey looks at the house, amazed.  "You live here?  At Southfork?"  He asks.

 

"I sure do."

 

"So.......your last name is Ewing?"

 

"Yep, sure is,"  Lucy says.  "Come on.  I'll introduce you to my family.  The ones that are home, anyway."

 

Casey reluctantly unbuckles his seat belt.  He and Lucy get out of the car and walk up to the house.  A moment later they walk into the house.  

 

"Come on in the kitchen and I'll fix you something to eat,"  Lucy says.  

 

Casey walks into the house and looks around, mesmerized, then follows Lucy into the kitchen, where Maria is putting away some dishes.  "Good afternoon, Miss Lucy,"  the maid says.

 

"Hello, Maria.  Maria, this is Casey."

 

"Hello, Casey,"  Maria says with a smile.

 

"Hi."

 

"Maria, would you mind fixing Casey something to eat?"  Lucy asks.  

 

"Of course.  Casey, what would you like?"

 

"I dunno.  Do you have pizza?"

 

Lucy and Maria look at each other and smile.  "Yes, we do,"  Maria replies.  "One pizza coming up."

 

"Casey, you just make yourself comfortable,"  Lucy says.  "I'll be back in a couple of minutes."

 

Nervously, Casey takes a seat at the kitchen table and Maria takes a frozen pizza from the refrigerator and Lucy leaves the room.  

The cottage....

  Meanwhile, Christopher and Courtney are helping Andrew and Gavin get settled into the cottage at Southfork.  "I'm sure you'll both be more comfortable here than you would at the bunkhouse,"  Christopher says.  

 

"Christopher, Dad and I can't thank you enough for letting us stay here,"  says Gavin.

 

"Hey, who's is this?" Andrew asks, picking up a girl's hair brush from the bed.

 

"We had a family staying here for a couple nights while Brian Manning was on the loose, but they returned to their home this morning,"  Christopher replies.  "I guess the daughter must have left that behind."

 

"Dad, why don't you get some rest?"  Courtney asks.  "I'm sure you didn't get any sleep last night in that jail."

 

"You're right, I didn't."

 

"Well, if you don't need anything else, I need to get back to the house and check on Jacob,"  says Courtney.  

 

"You two go on,"  Gavin says,  "We'll be fine."

 

Christopher nods, then he and Courtney leave.  Andrew walks over and takes a seat on the bed.  

 

"Well, what do you want for dinner?"  Gavin asks his father.

 

"I'm not hungry.  Son, you don't have to babysit me.  I'm sure you have things  to do, or things you wanna do, so, you go on.  I'll be okay right here."

 

"Well, I am a little behind on my work.  Sure you'll be okay for a couple hours?"

 

"Yes.  I'm not a child.  I can take care of myself."

 

"Dad, I know that, I'm just worried about you, is all,"  Gavin says.  "The drinking, and then getting arrested last night. I know you're hurting over Ben, but, drinking yourself to death isn't gonna help anything."

 

"It'll help ME,"  Andrew says.  

 "Dad, why are you doing this?"  Gavin asks.  "You had turned your life around.  Started to develop a relationship with Courtney and with your grandson.  You seeing Jenna Wade, and then you wanna throw all that away and start drinking again?"

 

"Relationship with Courtney and my grandson?"  Andrew asks.  "An UNEASY relationship at best.  It's obvious Courtney hasn't really forgiven me for the past.  And Jenna is a classy lady.  She deserves a hell of a lot better than me.  I don't have anything to offer her, or anything to give her, or anyone for that matter.  I'm a total failure, so you and your sister should've just left me in that jail.  I'm no good to anybody."

 

"Would you listen to yourself?  Would you listen to how pathetic you sound?"

 

"Why shouldn't I sound pathetic?"  Andrew asks.  "My daughter hates me, one of my sons is dead, and another doesn't even know I exist......."  Andrew suddenly stops talking, realizing he may have said too much.  

 

"What the hell is THAT supposed to mean?"

 

"Nothing.  Just me ramblin'.  Look, son, I'm sorry.  Just go and do what it is you have to do and I'll be fine."

 

Gavin looks at his father for a moment, then leaves.

 

After his son is gone, Andrew walks over to the door, picks up his bag and brings it over to the bed.  He unzips the bag, reaches in underneath his clothes, and pulls out a bottle of vodka.

Southfork....the kitchen....

Casey is still sitting in the kitchen at Southfork when Maria comes in, opens the oven, and checks the pizza.  "Should be ready soon,"  she says.

 

"Thanks.  Smells good,"  Casey says.  Maria smiles at the boy, then leaves the kitchen again. 

 

Right after Maria leaves, Michael walks into the kitchen and as he goes to the refrigerator, he notices his old bully sitting at the table.  "Casey?  Casey Myers?  What are YOU doin' here?"  Michael asks, walking over.  

 

 

"Well, sup, Mikey,"  Casey says.  "It's been a while."

 

"Yeah.  So.....what are you doing here at Southfork?"

 

"I was invited," Casey replies, standing to his feet.

 

"Invited?"  Michael asks.  "Who invited YOU?"

 

"I did,"  Lucy says, walking into the kitchen.  "Well, I see you two know each other?"

"Yeah, we know each other,"  Casey says.  

 

"Yeah, from school,"  Michael says, the two boys glaring at each other, Michael seeming to be unhappy to have Casey in his home.

 

Lucy smiles.  "Well, that's nice.  Michael, maybe you'd like to share Casey's pizza and you two can hang out for a while."

 

"No, thanks, Lucy,"  Michael says.  "I'm not hungry."

 

Lucy looks at him, her mouth open in shock.  "What?  Michael Ewing isn't hungry?  Well, that's gotta be a first," she says as her cell phone rings.  She takes the phone from her pocket and looks at it.  "Oh, you guys sit tight, I gotta take this.  Be right back,"  she says, quickly leaving the room to take her call.

 

Michael looks at Casey.  "How do you know my cousin Lucy?"

 

"She picked me up on the road and brought me here for somethin' to eat.  You got a problem with that?"

 

"Maybe,"  Michael says.  He turns to leave the room.

 

"Sure you don't want some of that pizza?"  Casey asks.

 

"No, thanks,"  Michael coldly says as he walks out of the kitchen.  A couple of minutes later, Michael walks into the small bedroom upstairs he shares with Jacob, who is sitting on his bed.  "You're never gonna believe who's downstairs in the kitchen,"  Michael says.  "Casey MYERS."

 

"Casey?  What's he doing here?"  Jacob asks.

 

"Lucy brought him here."

 

"Why?"

 

"No idea, but she's about to feed him one of our pizzas.  I think I'll just stay up here until he's gone."

 

"Yeah, me, too,"  says Jacob.  

 

Michael walks over and takes a seat on his bed.  He sighs.  "I thought I wouldn't have to see Casey all summer at least, and now here he is in my own house,"  Michael says.  "Thanks a lot, Lucy."

Southfork....later....

 "Lucy, you don't know anything about this kid,"  Bobby says as he, Lucy, Ann, Christopher, and Courtney are talking in the living room about Casey.  "None of us do."

 

"And what I do know, I don't like,"  Christopher says.  "According to Jacob, this is the kid who was bullying Michael at school the whole year."

 

"Just another reason why we shouldn't let this kid stay the night, not to mention the fact that you said he ran away from a foster care facility,"  Bobby says.  "Lucy, you could get into some serious trouble harboring a run away, not to mention the rest of us."

 

"Who's gonna know?"  Lucy asks.  "Bobby, this child has been through hell.  He's lost both parents, and  the aunt he was living with is now in jail."

 

"Allison Jones,"  Christopher says.

 

"Yes, Allison Jones, but what difference does that make?  Bobby, look, if anyone finds out, I'll take full responsibility.  I promise."

 

"And what about Michael?"  Bobby asks.  "How do you think he's gonna feel having the kid that tormented him all during the school year sleeping right here under the same roof?"

 

"I think Michael will be fine with it,"  Ann says, much to Bobby's surprise.  "Michael won't even have to see him."

 

"That's right,"  says Lucy.  

 

"So, Ann, you think we should let this kid stay the night?"  Bobby asks.

 

"Yes, I do."

 

"I have to agree with Ann and Lucy," says Courtney.  "Casey obviously ran away from that foster center for a reason, and Lucy said he said that if he had to go back, he'd just run away again.  What if she takes him back and he runs away again tonight?"

 

"I'm sure they secure the building to prevent that from happening," Christopher says.

 

"Oh fine,"  Lucy says.  "They lock children in like prisoners."

 

"Bobby,"  Ann says.  "Please?"

 

Bobby looks at his wife, then at Lucy.  "Alright, FINE.  But only for ONE night.  First thing in the morning, Lucy, I want ya to take that kid back to that foster care center."

 

Lucy smiles.  "I will.  And thank you Bobby.  You too, Ann, and Courtney for having my back."

 

"Lucy, two conditions,"  Bobby says.

 

"Sure.  What are they?"

 

"One......we're gonna ask Michael AND Jacob how they feel about havin' this kid here for the night, and if either of them is uncomfortable with the idea, then Casey has to go.  And two.......you take full responsibility if anything happens while this kid is here.  Understood?"

 

"Understood,"  Lucy replies.  

 

"I'll get the boys down here,"  Courtney says, leaving the room. She walks into the foyer and starts up the stairs when she finds Michael and Jacob sitting near the top of the staircase.  "You two come down to the living room,"  she tells them.

 

Michael and Jacob exchange looks.  "Uh-oh,"  Michael says.  "This can't be good."

 

A moment later, Courtney returns to the living room, followed by the two boys.  "Come on in, boys, and have a seat,"  Bobby says.

 

Michael and Jacob do as they are told and take their seats on one of the sofas.  "Is this about Casey?"  Michael asks.

 

"Yes, it is,"  Bobby replies.  "Your cousin Lucy has invited Casey to spend the night here at Southfork. and, given your recent history with him, we wanted to see how the two of you felt about having him here in the house first. Michael, I know that you had a lot of problems with Casey during the school year and that he bullied you. How do the two of you feel about having him here, just for the night?"

 

Jacob lowers his head.  "Casey's an orphan now, isn't he?"  The boy asks, sadly.

 

"Yes, he is,"  Lucy replies.  "His father died when he was real little and his mother died a few months ago."

 

Michael and Jacob exchange looks between them, then return their gaze to Bobby.  "It's okay with me if he stays,"  Michael says.

"Yeah, me too,"  Jacob says.  

 

Lucy smiles.  "Thank you both."

 

"It's all settled, then,"  says Ann.

 

"Where is Casey, anyway?"  Christopher asks.

 

"On the patio with Alex,"  replies Lucy.

Meanwhile....

Alex and Casey are sitting on the patio by the pool, neither of them saying a word, Alex watching Casey as the younger boy stares at the moonlight glimmering on the water in the pool.  Finally, Casey looks at Alex.  "Mind telling me why you're staring at me?"  He asks.  "It's kinda creepy."

 

"Sorry.  Didn't mean to stare,"  Alex says.

 

"Well you were."

 

"Well, EXCUSE me."

 

"You thinkin' about pushing me in the pool or somethin'?"  Casey asks.  "The way you pushed me down at the game store that night?"

 

"Hey, you deserved that, the way you were picking on my cousin Michael."

 

"Jerk,"  Casey says.

 

"Takes one to know one,"  says Alex.  "How'd my cousin Lucy happen to end up with you, anyway?"

"She picked me up on the road,"  Casey answers.  "I was hitchhiking."

 

"To where?"

 

"The cemetery.  I was goin' to my Mom and Dad's graves."

 

Alex looks at the boy, for the first time feeling any sympathy toward Casey.  "I'm sorry,"  he says.

 

"What have YOU got to be sorry for?"  Casey asks as Lucy comes out of the house onto the patio.  She walks over to them.

 

"Well, Casey, I talked to my Uncle Bobby and some of the rest of the family, and.......you can stay the night."

 

"Thanks."

 

"You're welcome.  Now, umm, we have a slight problem of where you're gonna sleep. Alex, would you mind terribly if Casey shared your room for the night?  He can sleep on one of the air mattresses."

 

Alex looks at the boy.  "I guess not.  Come on.  I have an air mattress in my closet.  We'll blow it up and get you settled."

 

"Thanks, Alex,"  Lucy says.  

 

Alex and Casey get up and head to the house, but Casey stops and turns back.  "Thanks, Lucy, for everything."

 

She smiles.  "Don't thank me.  Thank my Uncle Bobby.  It's HIS house."

 

Casey nods, then follows Alex into the house.  Lucy smiles broadly as she watches them go, feeling a sense of purpose and a desire to nurture this homeless orphan.  

Meanwhile....the cottage....

 Gavin walks into the cottage at Southfork that night after finishing his work.  As he enters the cottage, he looks around, and immediately sees his father sprawled across the bed.  Gavin rushes over to him.  "Dad,"  he says, touching Andrew's face.  "Dad?"  He then sees the empty vodka bottle beside Andrew.  The young man sighs deeply as he picks up the bottle and looks at it.  "Oh, damn it, Dad," he says.  "DAMN IT!"  He looks at his father and shakes his head.  He reaches over, grabs a blanket, and covers his father, then as he starts to walk away to the bathroom to shower, he hears Andrew moan and mumble in his sleep.

 

"Shawn......"  Andrew mumbles.  "Shawn." 

 

Gavin stops, and turns back around to look at his father.  He walks over to him.  "Dad?  Dad, it's me, Gavin."

 

"Shawn........my son,"  Andrew mumbles, to Gavin's surprise, leaving Gavin to wonder what his father is talking about, if it means anything, or if it's just the ramblings of a drunk.  

Southfork....the next morning....

 Bobby, Ann, Christopher, Courtney, Jacob, Michael, and Lucy are seated at the breakfast table on the patio the next morning when Alex and Casey come out of the house.  

 

"Well, good morning,"  Lucy says.  

 

"Morning,"  Casey replies.  

 

"Casey you can take a seat down at the end of the table,"  Ann says.

 

"Thanks."  The  boy walks over and takes a seat beside Alex.  

 

"How'd you sleep?"  Lucy asks him.

 

"I slept great."

 

"Yeah, you sure did,"  says Alex.  "Wish I could've, but your snoring kept me awake."

 

"I don't snore."

 

"Oh yeah, you DO!"

 

"Michael, I'm going to the hospital this morning to see your Mom,"  Courtney says.  "You wanna come with me?"

 

"Yeah, I do.  Thanks."

 

"Can I come, too?" Jacob asks.  

 

"Well, I'll call your Aunt Heather and ask if it's okay.  I'm sure she'll love to see you."

 

John Ross and Krystina come out of the house.  "Well, good mornin' everybody,"  John Ross says.

 

"Morning, John Ross, Krystina."

 

"Krystina, are you feelin' any better?"  Ann asks as they take their seats at the table.  

 

"Yes, as a matter of fact, I am, Ann, thank you.  A couple nights of solid sleep helped me, and having John Ross there with me."

 

John Ross looks  over and sees Casey at the table.  "Well, now," he says.  "Who's this?  A friend of Michael and Jacob?"

 

"Not hardly,"  Jacob says.  

 

"John Ross, this is Casey,"  Bobby says.  "He spent the night here last night."

 

"Really?"  Krystina asks.  "Casey, do you live around here?"

 

"I used to live in Braddock.  Now, I kinda don't have anywhere to live."

 

"What the hell's that supposed to mean?"  John Ross asks.

 

"Actually, John Ross, you know Casey's aunt very well,"  says Christopher.  "Allison Jones.  Casey was living with her until she was arrested."

 

John Ross looks at the boy.  "You're Casey Myers, Allison Jones's nephew?"

 

"Yeah,"  the boy replies.  "You know my Aunt?"

 

"I sure do.  She and I have done some business together.  So, what are you doin' here?"

 

"Lucy picked me up hitchhiking yesterday."

 

"You were hitchhiking?"  Krystina asks.  

 

"Yeah."

 

"Little young for that, aren't you?"  John Ross asks.

 

"Didn't have a choice after I ran away from the center."

 

"Casey, you'd better finish your breakfast,"  Lucy says.  "Then we can get going."

 

"I'd better hurry, too,"  says Ann.  "Emma's arraignment is at 10, and I don't wanna be late."

 

Bobby looks at his wife, feeling torn and conflicted......on one hand wanting to help and support Ann, but also he can't help but want to see Emma behind bars for what she did to his son.  

Meanwhile....the cottage....

 

 "Here, drink this,"  Gavin says, handing Andrew another cup of coffee.

 

"I don't need anymore coffee."

 

"Yes, you do.  You're still drunk from last night."

 

"I'm fine,"  Andrew says.  

 

"Dad, I need to ask you something."

 

"What?"

 

"Last night, when you were passed out, you mumbled something in your sleep,"  Gavin says.  

 

"I was?"  Andrew asks.  "And......what'd I say?"

 

"You mumbled something about your son.  And then you said the name Shawn.  What does that mean?"

 

"Nothing,"  Andrew says.  "It means nothing.  I was just.......drunk, and I don't remember.  But it doesn't mean anything."

 

"Do you know anyone named Shawn?"  Gavin asks.

 

Andrew looks at him, but ignores the question and takes a sip of his coffee.

 

"Dad, your friend, Mark Smith, Mrs. Ewing's brother.  His son's name is Shawn, isn't it?"

 

"Yeah.  Yeah, it is."

 

"Then, why did you mention him in your sleep?"  Gavin asks.

 

"Damn it, I don't know,"  Andrew snaps.  "Sometimes, when I'm drunk, I say things that I don't even remember saying.  It's not important.  I have to go to the bathroom.  I don't feel so well."  Getting up from his seat, Andrew staggers to the bathroom and goes in, closing the door and locking it behind him.  

 

Not buying his father's story, Gavin looks at Andrew's duffle bag on the floor beside the bed.  Curious, Gavin opens the bag and looks inside.  Digging beneath the clothes, Gavin finds some papers.  He picks up one of them 

and looks at it.  The paper has Sharon Smith's name and phone number written on it.  "Sharon Smith?"  Gavin quietly asks to himself.  Looking into the bag again, Gavin finds a newspaper article folded up.  Taking it out, he looks at it.  The article is about Shawn Smith becoming the youngest CEO in Westar's history.  Gavin can't help but think back to the night before, when he'd heard his father mumble the name Shawn while he was passed out drunk.  "Is it possible?"  He asks to himself.  "Could he be my father's son?"

Braddock County Courthouse....later....

 Ann and Sue Ellen are sitting in the courtroom at the Braddock County Courthouse a little later that morning, waiting on Emma's bail hearing.  "Sue Ellen, I really do appreciate you comin' down here with me this mornin',"  Ann says.

 

"I'm happy to do it, Ann.  The least I can do is be here to support you.  Mind if I ask a question?"

 

"Of course not."

 

"Is everything alright between you and Bobby?  I mean, since he didn't want to come to Emma's hearing."

 

"Yes, Bobby and I are........we're fine,"  Ann says.  "I understand why Bobby couldn't bring himself to be here this mornin'.  Emma has done some terrible things to Bobby's son.  And he understands why I have to be here to support my daughter."

 

"Good.  I really hope that this situation between Emma and Lucas doesn't cause you and Bobby any problems down the road."

 

"So do I.  Bobby is very angry with Emma, and I understand that.  And I can't even blame him for the way he feels."

 

Before Sue Ellen can say anymore, Emma is escorted into the courtroom by a female deputy, and Jay Smithfield walks in and takes his seat at the attorney's table in front of the courtroom.  He and his cousin, Todd Baxter, the assistant D.A. handling Emma's case, exchange looks.  A moment later, the bailiff steps forward.

 

"All rise,"  the bailiff says.  "Court is now in session, the Honorable Judge Darlene Sanford presiding."

 

The judge walks into the courtroom and takes a seat at the bench.  "Please be seated," she says, looking at some papers in front of her.  

 

"Your Honor, our first case this morning is an arraignment hearing for Emma Ryland,"  the court clerk says. 

 

"Ms. Ryland, are you represented by counsel?"

 

"Yes, Your Honor,"  Jay says, standing. "Jay Smithfield serving as counsel for the defendant."

 

"This hearing is to determine whether or not bail should be set for Miss Ryland.  Mr. Baxter, what does the District Attorney's office have to say?"

 

Todd stands to his feet.  "Your Honor, Emma Ryland is charged with assault, attempted murder, and reckless endangerment.  She's already proven she's a flight risk when she fled the country before she could be arrested.  She was only captured after being kidnapped by escaped killer Brian Manning. In addition, she has a son whose whereabouts is currently unknown.  Miss Ryland was also recently left a substantial inheritance by her late father, Cliff Barnes, so she has the financial means to flee justice.  It is the opinion of the District Attorney's office that this defendant should NOT be granted bail, and should remain in custody until her trial date."

 

"Your Honor,"  Jay says, standing.  "My client has very strong family ties to this community.  Her mother, Mrs. Ann Ewing, is willing to post bail for her daughter, whatever amount the court is willing to set.  Mrs. Ewing has also guaranteed to take full resonsibility for her daughter if she is released."

 

"Mr. Baxter, after hearing what Mr. Smithfield has just said, does the D.A.'s office still object to Miss Ryland being granted bail?"

 

"Absolutely, Your Honor.  We still feel that this defendant would be a huge flight risk."

 

"And I'm inclined to agree with you,"  Judge Sanford says.  "Bail for Miss Emma Ryland is denied.  Miss Ryland, you are remanded into custody until your trial date."

 

Upon hearing the judge's decision, Emma breaks down in tears.  "Emma, try not to worry,"  Jay says.  "I'm going to try to get us a trial date soon."

 

Ann's heart breaks as Emma is again led out of the courtroom by the deputy.  Mother and daughter exchange tearful looks as Emma is taken away.  Sue Ellen puts her arm around Ann in an attempt to comfort her friend.

Dept. of Family Services, Foster Care Center....

 Lucy is sitting in the waiting room at the Department of Family Services Foster Care Center late that morning, when Diane Archer opens the door to speak to her.  "Ms. Ewing?"

 

"Yes,"  Lucy says.  

 

"You can come into my office now."

 

Lucy smiles, then quickly follows the woman through a door and down a narrow hall and into an office.  

 

"Have a seat,"  Diane says.

 

"Thank you,"  Lucy says, sitting down in front of the woman's desk.

 

"I want to thank you for bringing Casey safely back to us."

 

"Oh, you're more than welcome."

 

"Now, I understand that you would like to apply to be become Casey's foster parent, is that right?"

 

"Yes, I would.  I've done some research on the internet and, I think I meet most of the requirements for becoming a foster parent.  I don't have a criminal record, and I had the financial means to provide for a child."

 

"I see.  Do you have children of your own?"  Diane asks.

 

"No.  Unfortunately, I wasn't able to have children of my own."

 

"Well, why don't you just fill out this application,"  Diane says, handing Lucy some papers.  "I like you, Ms. Ewing, and because of your name and your family, I don't think it will be a problems to rush this application through."

 

Lucy smiles.  "Well, thank you, Ms. Archer,"  she says, taking the application and looking at it.

Southfork....

 Courtney walks onto the back porch at Southfork, where Gavin is  waiting for her.  "Hey," she says.  "Gavin, what's wrong?  Is Dad alright?"

 

"Well, other than getting falling down drunk again last night, he's fine."

 

"He was drunk again last night?"

 

"Yeah.  I had to go out and finish some work, and when I got back, I found him passed out on the bed, an empty vodka bottle beside him. He must have had it in his bag."

 

"Damn it."

 

"But that's not all,"  Gavin says.  "Last night when Dad was passed out, he talked in his sleep.  He said something about his son, and then he mumbled the name Shawn."

 

"Shawn?"  Courtney asks.

 

"Yes.  This morning when Dad was in the bathroom, I went through his things."

 

"You......you went through his things?  Gavin......"

 

"Now just listen to me,"  Gavin says.  "I asked Dad this morning about what he meant.  He acted really strange, so, when he went in the bathroom, I was curious, so I went through his things.  I found a piece of paper with the name Sharon Smith on it."

 

"Sharon Smith?  That's Ann's sister-in-law."

 

"Exactly.  And her son's name is Shawn, right?"

 

"Yeah.  So?"  Courtney asks.

 

"So?  Courtney, don't you see what this means?  Last night in his sleep, Dad said.......'Shawn.....my son.'  What if Shawn Smith really IS Dad's son?"

 

"Gavin, that's just crazy."

 

"Why?"  Gavin asks.  "Why is it crazy?  Dad cheated on Mom with Ben's mother.  What if he cheated on her before that with Sharon Smith?  We know  that her husband was Dad's friend.  It's not that far fetched to think that Dad and Sharon Smith could've had an affair, and Shawn is the result of that affair."

 

"Oh my God,"  says Courtney.  "You could be right.  But how do we find out?  Do we come right out and ask Dad?"

 

"No, he'd just deny it.  This morning when I asked him about saying Shawn's name last night, he acted like I didn't know what I was talking about.  But Courtney, what if this is true?  What if we have another brother?  You know Shawn Smith, don't you?"

 

"Yes.  He used to be a close friend of the Ewings until he became CEO of Westar. He use to come here to the ranch a lot when he and Alex were friends."

 

"How would you feel about paying him a visit at Westar?"  Gavin asks.

 

"A visit?  Why?"

 

"If we wanna find out if Shawn Smith is our brother, then we're gonna need a DNA test, which means, we're gonna need a sample of his DNA."

 

"Gavin, how on Earth would we get a sample of Shawn Smith's DNA?"  Courtney asks.

 

"That's where you come in,"  says Gavin.  "If you can get into his office at Westar, you could get something of his, something with his DNA on it and we could have a test done."

 

"Gavin, this is just wrong.  Getting Shawn's DNA to do a test behind his back, I......it's wrong."

 

"Don't you wanna know the truth?  What if he's our brother, Courtney?  I don't know about you, but I'd like to know if I have another brother out there, and Dad's not gonna tell us the truth."

 

Courtney looks at her brother, wondering if Gavin could be right.  

Ewing Oil....early afternoon....

 

 

John Ross and Sly are in his office early that afternoon, as Sly is giving him the morning mail.  "And here is a delivery that came for you earlier,"  she says, handing him a large envelope.  

 

"Thank ya."

 

"And don't forget, you have that meeting with Brandon Harwood at 3 this afternoon."

 

"Okay,"  John Ross says as a knock sounds at the door.

 

"Come in,"  John Ross says.

 

Sly's son Cole walks into the office.  "John Ross, here are those files you wanted,"  Cole says. 

 

"Appreciate that, Cole."

 

"John Ross, if it's alright, I'd like to take an early lunch and treat my son at Perry's,"  Sly says.

 

"Yeah, that'll be fine.  You two go ahead,and lunch is on me.  Just bring me back a steak sandwich,"  John Ross says, taking out a hundred dollar bill, handing it to Sly.  

 

"I will.  Thanks,"  Sly says.  "But aren't you going to lunch?"

 

"Nah, I've got a lot of work to catch up on here."

 

"Alright, I'll bring back that steak sandwich.  I know just how you like it,"  Sly says, then leaves with Cole.

 

As soon as they leave, John Ross's cell phone rings.  He picks the phone up and looks at it, then answers.  "John Ross Ewing here."

 

"Mr. Ewing, this is Diane Archer."

 

"Ms. Archer.  I didn't expect to hear from you again so soon.  I assume this is about Casey Myers."

 

"Yes, Mr. Ewing.  I thought you should know, if you don't already, that a relative of yours, your cousin, Lucy Ewing, has applied to become Casey's foster parent."

 

"Has she?  Well, now that IS an interesting turn of events.  How do things look for her in terms of her actually becoming that boy's foster mother?"  John Ross asks.

 

"Her application looks good, and it certainly helps her case that she's a Ewing. I could rush her application through and persuade our board to approve it, if you would like."

 

John Ross smiles.  "Yes.  Yes, I would like that, Ms. Archer.  My cousin Lucy has had a rough time of it, and, I think bein' a mother is just what she needs to make her happy.  I'd appreciate it if you would rush that application on through, and I'd make it worth your while to have that application approved.  Southfork would be a wonderful place for Casey.  I'll expect to hear from you soon."  John Ross ends the call and puts his phone down.  "Yes," he says to himself.  "Southfork would be a wonderful place for Casey, and it would also rub salt in Allison's wound, knowin' that her precious nephew is livin' in MY house.  Everybody wins.....Lucy, the boy, me.....everyone EXCEPT Allison."  John Ross picks up his phone again and speed dials Bum's number.  On the second ring, Bum answers.  "Bum, got a job for you, and I need this done ASAP.  Remember that information you found for me about Karen Myers's son's birth?  That doctor, Henry Pratt and Nurse Stephanie Powell?  I want you to find one or both of them, preferably both.  And get back to me as soon as you got somethin'."  He puts his phone down and smiles again.  "Well, with Casey livin' with my cousin Lucy at Southfork, that kid could be just the key to finally findin' out what Kimberly and Allison are hidin'.  Damn.  I couldn't have planned this any better myself."

The Cattlemen's Club....afternoon....

 Jill and Justin are having lunch at The Cattlemen's Club that afternoon.  "Thank you for treating me to lunch,"  Jill says.

 

"Glad to do it.  I'm sorry Pamela couldn't join us, but she was busy."

 

"Come on, Justin, you and I both know your wife can't stand me, and the feeling is mutual, so, I wasn't expecting her to join us.  How is married life treating you, anyway?"

 

"Doesn't the smile on my face answer your question?"  Justin asks.  "But seriously, I love bein' married to Pamela, and I love bein' a daddy to those two precious little boys."

 

"Well, if you're happy, little brother, that's all that matters."

 

"I'm also real happy to have my favorite sister back in Dallas.  So how long ya stayin'?"

 

Justin, I'm your ONLY sister.  That we know of, anyway.  And, as for how long I'm staying, I really don't know yet.  It's up in the air.  I was homesick and I just needed some time away from L.A."

 

"Sounds like there's a story there.  Care to tell me why you needed to get away so bad?"  Justin asks.

 

As Jill is about to reply to him, she looks up and sees Detective Craig Anderson and his younger brother, Scott Anderson, approaching their table.  "Jill, hello,"  Craig says as he and Scott walk over to them.

 

"Hello, Craig.  How are you?"

 

"I'm just fine.  I had no idea you were back in Dallas."

 

"I got here yesterday,"  Jill says.

 

"Well, you look wonderful.  Oh, by the way, you remember my little brother, Scott, don't you?"

 

"Of course.  Scott, it's nice to see you again."

 

"Thanks, you, too,"  Scott says.

 

"Jill, while you're in town, we should get together and catch up,"  Craig says.  "Will you have dinner with me tomorrow night?"

 

"Dinner tomorrow night?"  Jill asks.  "I'd love to."

 

Craig smiles.  "Good.  Where are you staying?"

 

"At my mother's."

 

"Fine, I'll pick you up at.........7?"

 

"Yes, 7 is fine,"  Jill says.

 

"Okay, good.  I'll see you then.  Justin, it's good to see you."

 

"Yeah, same here, man, good to see you, too,"  Justin says.

 

Craig smiles at Jill again, then he and Scott turn and walk away.

 

"Well, that's very interesting,"  says Justin.

 

"Huh?"  Jill asks.

 

"The good detective.  He's obviously still very much in love with you.  And from the way you're lookin' right now, I'd say your feelin's for him are still there."

 

"I'm not gonna lie."  Jill says.  "You're right.  Craig Anderson was my first love, and, every time I see him, even now."

 

"So, don't ya think it's about time that you told him he has a son?"  Justin asks.

 

 

 

 

Jill looks across the room at Craig and Scott, seated at their table and ordering their lunch.  "Maybe you're right," she says, a tone of sadness in her voice.  "Maybe it IS time Craig knows the truth.  I'm just afraid that......he'll hate me for keeping the truth from him for so long."

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Southfork....late afternoon....

 Lucas's car drives up to Southfork and comes to a stop as he is bringing Heather home from the hospital.  Lucas gets out of the car, walks around to the passenger side, and opens the door for Heather.  "Can you make it, sweetheart?"  Lucas asks.

 

"Yes, I got it, thanks,"  Heather says, getting out of the car, her arm in a sling.  

 

"I'll get your bag out of the car."

 

"Lucas, the bag can wait.  I  just wanna go in and go to our room."

 

Lucas looks at his wife.  "Okay.  Come on."

 

As Lucas and Heather head to the house, Michael runs out of the house to meet his parents, followed by Christopher, Bobby, and Jacob.  "MOM!"  Michael excitedly says as he meets his mother.

 

"Hey, baby,"  Heather says.  

 

"Heather, we're so glad you're home,"  Bobby says.

 

"Thank you, Bobby."

 

"Mom, are you alright?"  Michael asks.

 

"My arm hurts a little, but I'm alright, baby.  Just glad to be out of that hospital."

 

"I'm a little surprised  they let you out so soon,"  says Christopher.

 

"The doctor actually wanted to keep her a couple more days, but, Heather insisted on comin' home," Lucas says.

 

"I just couldn't stand that hospital any longer.  I can recover much better here in my own room, in my own bed."

 

"Michael, take your mother on in the house,"  Lucas says.  "I'll get her bag out and be in in a minute."

 

"Okay, Dad,"  Michael says.  Bobby, Lucas and Christopher watch as Michael and Heather go into the house, followed by Jacob.  

 

"Lucas, how is she?"  Bobby asks.  "How is she, REALLY?"

 

"She's hurting.  She blames herself for the miscarriage.  The doctor said that, the miscarriage was mainly caused from this poly......whatever this condition is called that she has.  It was caused from her having a couple cysts on her ovaries several years ago.  This was a high risk pregnancy from the start, and chances of Heather carrying this baby to full term were very slim."

 

"So, you're saying she would've likely miscarried anyway?"  Christopher asks.

 

"Yeah.  She blames herself because of this condition, and I honestly don't know how to help her."

 

"Only thing you can do is be there for her, son,"  Bobby says.  "Heather's gonna need you now more than ever."

 

Lucas looks at his father and nods, then gets Heather's bag out of the car and goes to the house. 

Perry's Steakhouse And Grille....that evening....

 Courtney and Gavin walk into Perry's that evening.  "You sure he's gonna be here?"  Gavin asks his sister.

 

"Yes.  I asked a detective friend of Christopher's to discreetly follow Shawn and then he called me and said that Shawn and his girlfriend Michelle were having dinner here tonight."

 

"That was at least an hour ago.  What if they're not here anymore?"

 

"It's a chance we'll have to take,"  Courtney says.  "Running into Shawn here would be more plausible than me going to his office and having to come up with some bizarre excuse for being there."

 

A hostess approaches them.  "Mrs. Ewing, good evening,"  she says.  

 

"Good evening, Tammy.  I know we don't have a reservation, but, do you have a table for my brother and I?"

 

"Of course.  This way."  Tammy garbs two menus.  Courtney and Gavin follow her, and Courtney stops quickly when she sees Shawn and Michelle sitting near the window.  

 

"Tammy, wait,"  Courtney says.

 

"Is something wrong, Mrs. Ewing?"

 

"No, nothing's wrong.  Is there any way we could have THAT table?"  Courtney asks, pointing to the table beside Shawn and Courtney's.

 

"Actually, that table is reserved."

 

"I'd REALLY appreciate it"  Courtney says, slipping Tammy a fifty dollar bill.

 

Tammy smiles.  "Yes, of course.  I'm sure Mr. and Mrs. Lester will understand and agree to be seated at another table.  This way."

 

"Thank you,"  Courtney says, she and Gavin following Tammy to the table, passing by Shawn and Michelle.  "Well, Shawn, hello,"  she says.  

 

"Courtney, hi,"  says Shawn.  

 

"How are you?"

 

"Just fine, thanks.  Umm, how is Jacob doing?"

 

"He's doing well,"  Courtney replies.  "Shawn, I don't think you've ever met my brother, Gavin Murray.  Gavin, this is Shawn Smith, Ann's nephew, and his girlfriend, Michelle."

 

"Hi,"  Gavin.  

 

"Hello.  It's nice to meet you.  Well, we were just about to get out of here."  Shawn and Michelle stand from their seats.  "Courtney, you take care.  Gavin, a pleasure."

 

"Yeah, you, too,"  Gavin says as Shawn and Michelle walk away.

 

As soon as Shawn and Michelle are gone, Courtney very sneakily moves closer to their table, picks up a spoon Shawn left in his plate, and quickly slips it into a zip lock bag, and seals it.  Then she takes her seat with Gavin at the next table.  "Got it."

 

"A spoon?"  Gavin asks.

 

"Sure.  Shawn was eating with this, so his DNA is bound to be all over it.  Now all I have to do tomorrow, is get this to my friend Jason to do the DNA test.  And then.....we'll know whether or not Shawn Smith is our brother."

The Krebbs Ranch....the next morning....

 Ashley opens the door to Dylan's bedroom the next morning.  Dylan walks into the room, his arm bandaged, followed by Conner, Ray, and Donna, Conner carrying his brother's bag in.  

 

"Well now, how's it feel to be out of that hospital and back in your own room?"  Ray asks.

 

"Feels great.  Especially with the beautiful nurse I have to take care of me,"  Dylan says with a smile, looking at Ashley.  

 

"Ashley, maybe you should go to nursing school,"  Conner says.  "From the looks of things, you're gonna need it if my brother keeps getting shot and stabbed."

 

"Very funny,"  Dylan says.

 

"Well, look, why don't you get some rest, and I'll go and fix you some lunch?"  Donna asks.  "How'd you like that?"

 

"I'd love it, I've missed home food compared to that junk they serve at the hospital.  But, I don't need any rest.  I've been laying in a hospital bed for the past few days.  I wanna be up and around."

 

"Well, just don't over do it,"  Donna says.  "I'll be back with your lunch soon."  She leaves the room.

 

"Ray, I'm sorry about being laid up again like this, especially now when you need the help on the ranch," Dylan says.

 

"Hey, don't you worry about that,"  says Ray.  He looks at Conner and smiles.  "We're gonna hire on another hand temporarily until you're able to come back to work."

 

"Well, I've got a lot of work to do today, and I should get started looking for a new hand to replace you until you're back on your feet,"  Conner says.  "So, I'll see you this evening, little brother."

 

"I'll leave you two alone, too,"  Ray says.  "Ashley, you take good care of him."

 

"I sure plan to, Uncle Ray,"  Ashley says as Ray and Conner leave the room.   After they are gone, Ashley takes a seat beside Dylan on the bed. 

 

"Do you realize this is the first time we've actually been alone since......since the other night?"  Dylan asks.

 

"Yes, I do.  At the hospital, if you didn't have visitors, then there were nurses in and out of your room all the time."

 

"Well, I'm glad to have this time alone with you now.  Ash, I'm so sorry that the other night........that our first time making love ended the way that it did.  Sure wasn't what I had planned."

 

"It's not what either of us had planned,"  Ashley says.  "Y'know, the other night I couldn't help but thinking maybe I'm bad luck to you or something."

 

"What? Are you KIDDING?"  Dylan asks.  "You're the best luck that's EVER happened to me."

 

"Well, last New Year's Eve, you saved my life and ended up getting stabbed.  Then the other night, after we made love for the first time, we got kidnapped and you got shot.  I wouldn't exactly call that GOOD luck."

 

Dylan reaches out and takes her by the hand.  "Well, I didn't die either time, did I?"

 

"No, thank God,"  Ashley replies.  "I don't know what I would've done if I'd lost you. Dylan, I was so scared.  When that shot rang out, and I saw you fall.  Then I saw all the blood, I........oh my God, I thought you were dead."

 

"Hey, let's not talk about that night, okay?"  Dylan asks.

 

"Deal."

 

"Y'know, I just heard you promise Ray that you were gonna take good care of me while I'm laid up.  Well, I could sure use some tender love and care right now."

 

"Yes, I kinda did promise Uncle Ray that, didn't I?"  Ashley asks.  She gets up and walks over to the bedroom door and locks it, then returns to the bed.  "And I plan to take REAL good care of you,"  she says, again taking a seat on the bed.  

 

"What'd ya have in mind?"  Dylan asks.

 

Ashley looks at him and smiles.  "Lay back and relax,"  she says in a seductive voice.

 

"I think I'm gonna like having you for a nurse," Dylan says.  He lays on his back on the bed.  Ashley slowly moves over him and kisses him passionately for a moment.  "Now I KNOW I'm gonna love having you for a 


nurse,"  Dylan says.   

 

"That was just a small preview of things to come,"  Ashley says.  She begins kissing Dylan again, first on the lips, then she moves down to kiss his neck.  Slowly, Ashley unbuttons Dylan's shirt and begins kissing his bare chest, slowly moving down Dylan's torso, kissing every inch of him until she reaches his pants....

Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital....

 Mitch is busy making his morning rounds at the hospital that morning.  Meanwhile, the elevator down the hall opens and Lucy steps off.  Looking around, she spots Mitch and hurries down the hall to him.  "Mitch,"  she says.

 

"Well, good morning,"  Mitch says, kissing her.  "I didn't expect to see you here this morning, I thought you had the day off from your volunteer job."

 

Lucy smiles.  "I am, but, I have some good news that I just couldn't wait to tell you.  Do you have a minute?"

 

"Well, I can take a minute.  What's the news?"  Mitch asks.

 

"Well, you remember that little boy I picked up and took home a couple nights ago?"

 

"Yes, Casey, the one who spent the night at Southfork.  What about him?"

 

"Mitch, I applied to be Casey's foster parent, and this morning, I got a call from the caseworker handling the case.  My application was approved.  Now I just have to go through a criminal background check, and, if I pass, which I WILL, then I'll become that boy's foster mother."

 

"Lucy, that's terrific, but, how?  Lucy, I thought it usually took MONTHS for an application to become a foster parent to go through the screening process and become approved or disproved."

 

"Normally, it does.  But, that's one of the advantages of being a Ewing.  Because of who my family is, my application was rushed through."

 

Mitch nods.  "Of course.  When you told me, I should've known the Ewing name and the Ewing money had to have had something to do with this whole thing happening so fast.  But to be honest.....I'm glad.  I'm very happy for you, Lucy."

 

"Oh, thanks,"  Lucy says with a smile.  "Mitch, I can't wait for you to meet Casey.  He's such a great kid."

 

"Well, that's fine, Lucy, but, I do have a question.  How much exactly do you know about this kid?  About his story?

 

"I know that's an orphan, and his aunt worked for the city government in Dallas, until she was arrested on some illegal insider trading charge.  She was his only living relative."

 

"Lucy, are you sure you know what you're taking on?  Being a parent is a HUGE responsibility."

 

"One that you don't think I'm up to, is that it?"  Lucy asks.

 

"No, that's not what I'm saying at all.  I just want you to make sure that, not only is this what you want, but it's something you're fully prepared for.  It means being totally responsible for this kid."

 

"Yes, Mitch.  This is something I really want.  The minute I stopped and picked Casey up the other day, I felt this connection to him.  He seemed so lost.  I know this may sound crazy, especially since I only met him the other day, but, Mitch, I love this kid.  He has no one in the world, and, I can give him a good home, and a family, and not to mention a lot of love."

 

Mitch looks at her and smiles.  "You wanna know what I think?"  Mitch asks, putting his arms around her.

 

"What?"

 

"I think Casey is a VERY lucky young man," Mitch replies, then kisses her.

Perry's Steakhouse And Grille....that night....

 Jill and Craig are having dinner that night at Perry's.  "Dinner was delicious,"  Jill says after the  two finish their meal.  

 

"Yes it was," says Craig.  "And the company was even better." 

 

Jill looks at him and smiles.  "Yes, it was.  I'm very glad that you asked me out to  dinner, Craig."

 

"And I'm glad you accepted.  Jill, I've thought about you every day since you left Dallas.  There for a while, I thought.......I'd HOPED that maybe something was developing between us."

 

"The timing wasn't right, Craig.  None of it was right.  The relationship, or whatever you'd call it that we had last year started as a result of my cheating on Jay.  Jay is a good man, and I hurt him very badly.  I never should've married him."

 

"Didn't you love him?"  Craig asks.

 

"I thought I did.  No, I take that back.  I DID love Jay.  I just wasn't IN love with him.  Not the way I should've been.  There was always something standing between us.  And that something was another man........it was you, Craig.  You were my first love, and my one true love.  They say you never get over your first love, and that was sure true in my case."

 

"It's been true in my case, too, Jill,"  Craig says, reaching across the table and taking both her hands.  "I've loved you since we were crazy high school kids, and I still love you.  Jill, I know you said that your plans were up in the air.  But what is there for you in Los Angeles?  Stay here in Dallas, Jill.  Stay here with me.  We can have that life together that we should've had 13 years ago."

 

"Craig, I.......I don't know.  Everything is happening so fast,"  Jill says.  "I came back just a couple days ago, and now here we are.  Being with you here tonight, feels.......right."

 

"Yes, it does."

 

"I don't want this night to end, Craig."

 

"Who says it has to end?"  Craig asks.  

Later....

Jill and Craig walk into Craig's bedroom at his apartment and begin kissing passionately as they move to the bed, undressing each other.  The two get onto the bed, still locked in the kiss, and begin to make love....

Southfork....the next morning....

 Krystina is in the nursery at Southfork the next morning putting little Ellie back down in her crib after feeding the child.  "Was that good?  Was that good, pretty girl?  Was my baby girl hungry?"  

 

John Ross walks into the nursery as Krystina is talking to the baby.  He stands at the door watching his wife and  daughter for a moment.  "Well, now THAT is the most beautiful sight I have seen in a while," he says, walking over to them.

 

"Daddy, you'll be VERY proud of your  little girl,"  Krystina says.  "She ate ALL of her breakfast this morning."

 

John Ross looks at his little girl in surprise.  "What? Really?  Did you eat everything this mornin'?"  He asks, and the baby nods.

 

"And what about you?"  John Ross asks, turning to Little John, who is sitting at a little table.  "Did you eat everything on your plate like your little sister did?"

"No,"  Little John replies.  

 

"And why not?"

 

"Because I don't like eggs."

 

"You don't like eggs,"  John Ross says.

 

"Just like his father,"  says Krystina. 

 

"Well, he could do worse than take after me."  John Ross looks at his son, then at his daughter and sighs.  "I can't help but think about the other night, and if that bastard had hurt you or one of my kids......."

 

"Thank God, he DIDN'T.  And thank God the kids were up here asleep during the whole thing."

 

"Yeah.  And Thank God he didn't get to hurt you,"  John Ross says, placing his hand on his wife's face.

 

"Well, I'm fine, so we don't ever have to talk about that night or Brian Manning  ever again." 

 

"Well that's fine by me."

 

"How come you aren't dressed for work?"  Krystina asks.

 

"Because I'm not goin' into the office til this afternoon.  I'm takin' Alex and flyin' down to Odessa to look at some of our fields down there, and  I was wonderin' if you might wanna come along?  We can have lunch in this great little restaurant I know down there.  My Daddy use to take me there to eat when I'd fly down with him."

 

Krystina looks at him and  smiles.  "I'd love to."

 

"Can I come,  too, Daddy?"  Little John asks.  

 

"I'm afraid not, buddy.  Not just yet."

 

"But you said you're taking Alex."

 

"Well, when you get to be  older, I'm gonna be takin' you with me, too.  But not til you're older.  At least 10,"  John Ross says as his cell phone rings.  He takes the phone from his pocket and  looks at it.  "Oh, I gotta take this, darlin',"  he says.  He walks into the hallway and answers the call.  "Bum, what's up?"  

 

"John Ross, I've got somethin' for ya, and I knew you'd wanna hear this ASAP."

 

"Well, what is it?"

 

"I found that nurse, Stephanie Powell, and she's agreed to meet......for a price."

 

"Well, that's great.  When?"  John Ross asks.

 

"10 a.m., at a room at The Omni, and  she's ready to talk."

 

"10 a.m.?  Damn.  I had plans for this mornin', but......hell, this is more important.  Okay.  You tell Ms. Powell that I'll be there at 10 sharp.  What room?"

 

"749."

 

John Ross ends the call and puts his phone away.  He pauses for a few seconds, then returns to the nursery, where Krystina is putting the baby in her crib.  "Darlin', I'm sorry, but I'm gonna have to take a raincheck on our little trip down to Odessa."

 

"Oh?  Is anything wrong?"  Krystina asks.

 

"Nope, not at all.  In fact, everything is very RIGHT."

Craig Anderson's apartment....

 Jill is laying awake in bed at Craig's apartment, Craig sound asleep next to her, his arms around her.  Jill looks over at him, this man she has loved since she was a teenager, and she is filled with an incredible sense of guilt over the terrible secret she has kept from him for 13 years.  Jill realizes that if she wants any kind of future with Craig, she will have to tell him the truth.  She is also aware that, if she does tell him about the child she lost......HIS child, it could mean the end of any relationship before it even gets started.  But she has no choice.  Craig begins to awaken.  He opens his eyes and looks at her.  He smiles.

 

"Good morning,"  he says.

 

"Good morning."

 

"I love waking up next to you.  It just.......feels right."

 

"Yes, it does.  What time  do you have to go to work today?"  Jill asks.

 

"Not until this afternoon, so we can have breakfast, and spend the first half of the day together.  Right here in bed."  Craig begins kissing her neck.

 

"Craig, we have to talk."

 

"We can talk later,"  he says, continuing to kiss her.  

 

"Craig, please.  I HAVE to talk to you about something very important."

 

He stops kissing her neck and looks at her.  "This must be serious."

 

"It is,"  she says.  She gets out of bed and begins to get dressed.  

 

"Well, why are you putting your clothes on?"  He asks.  "We can't talk as we are?"  

 

"No.  Because when I say what I have to say, you just might kick me out of here, so I wanna be prepared."

 

"Jill, nothing you could say could make me kick you out of here,"  says Craig.  "So what is it?"

 

Jill takes a seat on the bed and looks at him.  "Craig, what I have to tell you.........this could very well make you hate me.  But I really hope and pray that it doesn't."

 

Craig sits up on bed and looks at her.  "Jill, nothing could make me hate you, so just tell me.  What is it?"

 

"When we were in high school, and.........when you left me, I was devastated."

 

"I know,"  Craig says.  "Jill, I was so young and immature back then, and your mother couldn't stand me.  She  hated the thought of us being together."

 

"My mother hated any guy I dated when I was younger.  But Craig, back to what I was saying.  I was devastated, and, right before you broke up with me........"  Jill pauses for a moment.  "I found out I was pregnant."

 

Craig's mouth falls open in shock.  "What?  Pregnant?  Jill, you......you were PREGNANT with my child?"

 

"Yes."

 

"Oh my God.  Jill, We have a child?  Why didn't you tell me?" 

 

"I never had the chance.  When I went to you to tell you that I was pregnant, you told me that you were breaking up with me.  You had big dreams for your life, and you needed to be free and move on.  And then you left Dallas."

 

"You must have given the child up for adoption. I have a child out there somewhere?"

 

Jill begins to cry.  "No.  I was pregnant, but, we don't have a child out there?"

 

"Jill, what are you saying?  Dear God, you had an abortion?"

 

"No,"  she replies in tears.  "I would never do that.  I gave birth to a baby boy.  He was born May 21, 2006."

 

"A boy?  A son?  Jill, what happened to him?  What happened to our child?"

 

"He was born 3 weeks premature, and with a heart murmur.  Craig, he was so small, so frail.  I never even got to take him home from the hospital.  He had to stay in an incubator.  I only got to hold him a couple of times, and then........and then our son died before he was even a month old."

 

"Why didn't you ever tell me?"  Craig asks.  "When we reconnected, why didn't you tell me about our son?"

 

"I didn't want to hurt you.  I know you must hate me right now.  Craig, I'm so sorry.  I never told anyone.  The only people who knew about the baby were my mother, and Wilson Cryder, who I thought was my father at the time.  My parents sent me away during my pregnancy, and I dropped out of school.  I spent those months at a convent outside of Fort Worth.  The only person I ever saw other than the nuns was my mother.  Then, when it was almost time for the baby to be born, I insisted on coming home for a visit.  I begged.  Finally, my mother said I could, and I was only home for a couple of days when I went into labor and had to be taken to the hospital."

 

Craig looks at her, tears streaming down his face.  "All these years,"  he says.  "All these years, you've been shouldering this pain all by yourself?  Jill, you should've contacted me and told me.  I would have been here for you.  You wouldn't have had to go through this alone."

 

"After the baby died, I......I just couldn't.  I didn't want you to feel the pain that I was feeling.  Craig, I loved you too much for that."

 

Craig immediately leans over and embraces Jill as they cry together.  

The Omni Hotel....later....

 John Ross and Bum knock on a door at the Omni Hotel later that morning.  A second later, a middle aged woman of about 50 answers.  "Mr. Ewing?"  She asks.

 

"Yes, I'm John Ross Ewing."

 

"Come in."

 

John Ross and Bum walk into the suite.  "Ms. Powell, you have some information for me about Karen Myers and her husband, and her sister, Allison Jones?"

 

"Yes, I do.  Can I offer you gentlemen a drink or something?"

 

"No, thank you,"  John Ross says.

 

"No, I'm fine,"  says Bum.

 

"Then please, have a seat."

 

John Ross and Bum walk over and sit down on the sofa.  Stephanie takes a seat in a chair across from them.  "Alright, Ms. Powell, tell us what you know,"  Bum says.

 

"This has been weighing on my mind and on my conscience for 13 years,"  Stephanie says.  "All these years, I've been keeping quiet, and taking money from Kimberly Cryder for what I did."

 

"Kimberly Cryder has been payin' you and this Dr. Pratt hush money for 13 years?"  John Ross asks.

 

"Yes.  A LOT of money."

 

"Then why, after all this time, did you decide to finally come forward and tell whatever it is she's been payin' you for?"

 

"I'll show you, Mr. Ewing,"  Stephanie says.  She reaches up to her head, grabs her hair, and pulls off a wig,

revealing herself to be completely bald, much to the surprise of both John Ross and Bum.  "6 months ago, I was diagnosed with breast cancer.  The cancer spread, despite aggressive chemotherapy treatments, and is now terminal.  The doctors say I only have a couple of months left, at best."

 

"We're real sorry to hear that," Bum says.  

 

"Thank you.  I don't want to die with this crime on my conscience."

 

"This has somethin' to do with the birth of Karen Myers's son, Casey?"  John Ross asks.

 

"No, not something,"  Stephanie replies.  "It has EVERYTHING to do with that child's birth, Mr. Ewing.  I had worked for Dr. Pratt for more than 10 years when I assisted him, at the request of Mrs. Cryder, in doing something really terrible."

 

"What, Ms. Powell?"  John Ross asks.  "What did you help Dr. Pratt do?"

 

"A child had been born at the hospital,"  Stephanie continues.  This child was premature, and suffered from a heart murmur.  The little boy had to be kept in an incubator for the first few weeks of his life.  Well, Karen Myers was admitted to the hospital, in labor.  She had to undergo a C-section, but there were complications, and her baby died."

 

John Ross and Bum exchange confused looks.  "Wait, you're tellin' us that Karen Myers's son DIED?"

 

"Yes.  Her husband, and her sister were devastated, and they knew that this news would crush Karen, especially since she would never be able to have any more children.  Mrs. Cryder was at the hospital, in the maternity ward the night Mrs. Myers's baby died.  It was HER idea.  Her and Mrs. Myers's sister, Allison.  They hatched a plot to switch the babies........the little boy that had been born a few weeks earlier, with Mrs. Myers's dead baby boy."

 

"Wait, there's somethin' I don't understand here,"  says John Ross.  "Kimberly and Allison wanted to switch these babies, but, what was Kimberly doin' at the hospital anyway?  What was this child to her, the one born prematurely?"

 

"The baby boy was Mrs. Cryder's grandson, Mr. Ewing."

 

"What?  Her......her GRANDSON?"

 

"Yes. Mrs. Cryder's teenage daughter, Jillian Cryder, had given birth to the baby.  Mrs. Cryder......God, that woman is so cold.  She's evil for what she did."

 

"Are you sayin' that Kimberly switched Jill's baby, with Karen Myer's child that died?" 

 

"Yes,"  Stephanie replies in tears.  "She hated the fact that her daughter had gotten pregnant so young, and out of wedlock.  She claimed she wanted to spare the girl the burden.  So, she paid Dr. Pratt, and myself, a LOT of money to make the switch.  Karen and Jeffrey Myers took home Jill Cryder's baby after it was strong enough, and the poor Cryder girl was told that her baby had died.  The only people who knew about the switch were myself, Dr. Pratt, Kimberly Cryder, Allison Jones, and Jeffrey Myers.  Both Myers and Kimberly Cryder paid Dr. Pratt and I handsomely to keep the secret.  Finally, Jeffrey Myers couldn't take it anymore, and he killed himself."

 

 

 

 

 

"Oh my God........that means that........that kid, Casey Myers.........he's Jill's son,"  John Ross says, completely stunned by the revelation.  

 

 

 

 

 

Southfork....

 Heather is standing at the window of her and Lucas's bedroom looking out when a knock sounds at the door.  Courtney opens the door and peaks in.  "Heather, can I come in?"

 

"Sure."

 

Courtney walks into the room and closes the door.  "How are you feeling?"

 

"My shoulder hurts a little, but, other than that, I suppose I'm fine."

 

"I just wanted you to know that, if you need someone to talk to, I'm here.  I know the pain you're feeling right now.  I felt the same pain after my miscarriage last year."

 

"Thank you, Courtney, but it's not the same,"  Heather says.  "You and Christopher, you can have more children any time you want."

 

"So can you," says Courtney.  "Lucas said that there was no reason you can't have another baby."

 

"Yes there is, Courtney.  This condition I have.  There's no way that I can go through this again.  The fear of havin' a miscarriage, or that somethin' could go wrong at any time.  And I can't go through this pain again."  Heather begins to cry.  "It feels like my heart has been ripped out of my chest."

 

"Honey, because this happened with this pregnancy, doesn't mean it will happen again.  The next time you could have a perfectly healthy pregnancy."

 

"There won't be a next time,"  Heather says.  "I'm not gonna risk gettin' pregnant again and havin' the same thing happen."

 

"Heather......."

 

"Courtney, please.  I love you dearly, and I know you mean well, but, please, could you just leave me alone right now?  I wanna be by myself."

 

"Okay, sure,"  Courtney says.  "But my offer still stands.  Whenever you need to talk, I'm here for you."

 

"Thank you,"  Heather says.  Courtney gives her sister-in-law a hug, then leaves the room.  After she's gone, Heather walks over to the window and looks out.  She begins to cry.

Meanwhile....

A taxi drives up to Southfork and comes to a stop.  The back door of the taxi opens and a young blonde woman gets out.  

 

Meanwhile, Ann is in the kitchen frosting a cake when Lucy walks in.  "Hi, Ann,"  she says.

 

"Hello, Lucy."

 

"Hmm, that looks good."

 

"Thank you.  I needed somethin' to occupy my mind, so, I decided to bake a cake,"  Ann says.  "You sure seem cheerful."

 

"I have every right to be,"  says Lucy.  "I'm about to go into town for my interview with the child protective services people.  And, if all goes well, Casey may be able to come home with me either this afternoon or tomorrow."

 

"Lucy, I'm real happy for you.  I can't believe things have moved along so fast, I thought these things usually took months."

 

"They do, but, the Ewing name does kinda speed things up,"  Lucy says.  "And I can't thank you and Bobby enough for agreeing to let Casey come and live here.  I know Bobby had his reservations at first."

 

"Well, it'll be an adjustment, but, I think it'll be nice to have another kid in the house.  Hopefully, Michael and Jacob will be able to put aside their differences with Casey."

 

"I sure hope so,"  Lucy says as the doorbell rings.  

 

"I'll get that,"  Ann says.  "Maria's cleaning upstairs."  Ann leaves the kitchen and walks into the foyer as Lucy follows.  Ann opens the front door to find the woman who had gotten out of the taxi.  To Ann's shock, the young woman is holding Logan.

 

"Ann Ewing?"  The woman asks in a British accent.

 

"Yes, I'm Ann Ewing.  Oh my God, Logan?"

 

"Yes, Mrs. Ewing," the woman says.  "I'm Vanessa Carlton, a friend of Emma's from London, and she left Logan with me quite some time ago to return to Dallas for her father's funeral, and I did not hear a word from her after that.  I tried to reach her, but couldn't, so I took the child to my mother.  Then, I heard a couple of days ago that Emma had been arrested here in Dallas.  Emma had told me that, whatever happened, I was to keep Logan with me and I was to not contact anyone, but, Mrs. Ewing, I believe the child belongs with his family, especially with Emma in jail.  So, I have brought Logan to you."

 

Ann begins to cry tears of joy upon seeing her grandson.  She quickly takes the child from Vanessa.  "Logan, oh, my baby.  My little  grandson.  We were so worried."  Ann hugs the child closely to her as she cries.  

A cemetery in Dallas....

Jill and Craig are standing in a cemetery in Dallas, looking down at the gravestone of their infant son.  "Wesley

Anderson Cryder,"  Craig says, reading the baby's name on the gravestone.

 

"I wanted him to have part of your name."

 

"He'd be 13,"  Craig says.  "Our son would be a teenager now."

 

"I know,"  Jill says, wiping tears from her face.  "Craig, I am SO sorry I kept this from you all these years."

 

"I can understand why you did it.  I'm just glad that you told me now.  I wonder what he'd be like, Jill.  What he'd look like.  What kind of kid he'd be."

 

"I like to think that he would be very handsome, just like his father."

 

Craig puts his arm around Jill as the two continue to look down at the grave in front of them.  Suddenly, Jill's phone rings in her pocket.  Taking the phone out, she looks at it.  

 

"It's John Ross.  Hold on, Craig, I need to see what he wants."  Jill answers her call.  "John Ross, hi," she says.  "What?  John Ross, I'm kind of in the middle of something, can't it wait?"   Jill listens for a moment as John Ross speaks on the other end of the line.  She sighs deeply.  "Okay, I'll meet you.  Yes.  Alright.  Bye."  Jill ends the call and puts her phone away.  

 

"What was that all about?"  Craig asks.

 

"I have no idea.  John Ross wants me to meet him.  He said he has some news for me and it's very urgent.  What could it be about?"

 

"I dunno, but it must be important.  I'll come with you."

 

"I thought you had to go to work,"  Jill says.

 

"I'll call the station and tell them I'll be  an hour or so late."

 

"Thank you.  Whatever this news is......from the urgency in John Ross's voice, I just have this feeling it's something REALLY big."

 

Craig puts his arm around her again.

Dallas Police Department....

 "No, Mike, you can't be serious!"  Allison angrily says as Mike Morgan visits her in jail.  "Please tell me that this is some cruel joke."

 

"Allison, I wish I could, but unfortunately, it's not."

 

"So, Lucy Ewing was approved to be Casey's foster parent?  A EWING of all people?"

 

"I'm afraid so. Apparently, my application hasn't even been processed yet."

 

"Then how did HERS get processed so fast?"  Allison asks.  "Oh, wait, never mind.  Her name and her damned money!  Mike, you have to do something.  No way in HELL can Casey be allowed to live with the Ewings."

 

"Allison, I can appeal this decision, but aside from that, there's nothing I can do.  My hands are tied."

 

"Oh my God,"  Allison says in tears.  "This can't be happening."

 

"Allison, this might not be a bad thing for Casey,"  says Mike.  "The Ewings are a very wealthy family, and they live on that beautiful ranch.  They can give Casey advantages that......."

 

"He CANNOT live with the Ewings, Mike!"  Allison angrily says.  

 

"Well, Allison, I'm sorry, but you don't have a choice here,"  Mike says.  

 

Just then, the door to the visitation room opens, and Detective Steven Jones walks in with another officer.

 

"Detective, what's going on?"  Mike asks.

 

"I'm sorry, Mr. Morgan,"  Steven says.  "But we have new evidence against your client of another crime."

 

"New evidence?  What other crime?"

 

"An allegation has been made that your client was involved in a baby switch some 13 years ago."

 

Allison's heart sinks as she hears these words, and realizes that, somehow, the truth has been uncovered.

Southfork....afternoon....

 Bobby, Lucas, and Christopher rush into the house early in the afternoon.  "Annie?"  Bobby calls.

 

"In here, Bobby,"  Ann's voice replies from the living room.

 

"Honey, what's wrong?  We got here as fast as we could when you called,"  Bobby says as the three men walk into the living room, where they find Ann, Heather, and Krystina all sitting on the sofa with baby Logan.  Lucas stops in the doorway when he sees Ann holding the child.  Ann gets up from her seat, and carries the child over to him. 

 

"Nothin's wrong,"  Ann says.  "Lucas........it's Logan.  It's your son, and our grandson, Bobby."

 

"Logan,"  Lucas says.  "My God."  Ann gently places Logan in his father's arms.

 

"Annie, how?"  Bobby asks.

 

"A woman brought Logan here.  Said she was a friend of Emma's that Emma left the baby with when she came back to Dallas after Cliff died.  Manning was lyin'.  He never had Logan."

 

"Logan,"  Lucas says as he hugs his son tightly.  "Oh, thank God!  Thank God,"  he says as Bobby, Christopher, Ann and Krystina look on happily.  Heather, however, looks on from a distance, tears in her eyes as she watches Lucas holding his son, and as she wishes it were THEIR child he were holding.

Downtown Dallas....

Courtney is sitting by the window in a cafe in downtown Dallas when a man walks into the cafe and takes a seat at her table.  "Sorry I'm late, Courtney."
"It's fine, Jason."
"You have the sample?"
"Right here,"  Courtney replies, taking the spoon sealed in a zip lock bag from her purse, the spoon Shawn had eaten from the night before.  "This is a spoon the subject ate from, so you should be able to get a sample of his DNA from it."
"Okay.  I brought a swab.  I'm gonna need a sample of your DNA for a comparison,"  Jason says, taking a Q tip from a bag he is carrying.  
"Alright, let's get this over with,"  Courtney says.  She opens her mouth as her friend reaches across the small table, swabs the inside of her cheek, then places the Q tip in a separate sealed plastic zip lock bag.  
"I'll get started on it this afternoon,"  Jason says.
"Thank you, Jason, and......please, put a rush on this.  I need the results as soon as possible, and as discreetly as possibly."
"Discretion is not something you have to worry about with me, especially with this. What you're asking me to do is slightly unethical, and I could get into a lot of trouble for this.  But, we ARE old friends, and I do owe big time for introducing me to the lovely girl who became my wife.  I just hope you get the answers you're looking for."
"Yeah, so do I,"  Courtney says sadly.
Ewing Oil....

 Sly buzzes John Ross's office at Ewing Oil.  "Jill is here, with Detective Craig Anderson."

 

"Thank ya, Sly.  Send 'em in."  

 

"This is gonna be a real shock to Jill,"  Bum says.  "I hope she handles this news well."

 

"So do I,"  John Ross says as Jill and Craig walk into the office.  

 

"John Ross, what's going on?"  Jill asks.  "What was so urgent?"

 

"Jill, I need to talk to you about somethin' real important, and it's kinda private."

 

"John Ross, it's okay,"  Jill says.  "Anything you can say to me, you can say in front of Craig.  So what's going on?  John Ross, what's wrong?"

 

John Ross looks at her.  "Jill, I know the truth."

 

"The.....truth?"

 

"Yes.  I know that you got pregnant when you were in high school, and that you had a baby."

 

Jill looks at him in shock.  "John Ross, how?  How did you find out?"

 

"I talked to a nurse who worked at the hospital."

 

"You......you did WHAT?  John Ross, what were you doing?  Digging into my past?  Why?"

 

"No.  Just listen to me, darlin'.  This didn't start out about you at all.  Look, it's a long story, but, I was tryin' to find some information about another child that was born at the hospital around the same time as your baby."

 

"Well, if you know that I had a baby, then........you also know that my son died before he was a month old,"  Jill says in tears.

 

"No, Jill,"  says John Ross.  "That's not true.  Your baby didn't die."

 

"What?"

 

"John Ross, what do you mean by that?"  Craig asks.  "What do you mean our baby didn't die?"

 

John Ross looks at him.  "OUR baby?"

 

"Yes,"  Jill replies.  "Craig was the father of my baby.  And John Ross, you had better explain to me what you meant when you said my baby didn't die."

 

"Jill, this is a long story, and I won't go into all the details, but I swear to you it's the truth.  Your baby did NOT die 13 years ago.  Your baby was taken from you.......switched with another baby that did die.  Jill, your child is alive, and well."

 

"No,"  Jill says, looking at him.  "John Ross, why are you doing this to me?  Why are you saying this to me?"

 

"John Ross,if this is some kind of sick joke......"

 

"It's not a damned joke,"  John Ross says.  "I wouldn't do that to my sister.  Jill, I swear to you, your child is alive, and I know where he is."

 

"But......how?"  Jill asks.  "My baby was switched?  Why?  Who would do something like that to me?  And why?"

 

John Ross and Bum exchange looks, then, after a brief pause, John Ross turns back to his sister.  "It was your mother, Jill.  Kimberly is the one who had those babies switched."

 

"My.......my mother?  No.  John Ross, that's a LIE! My mother would never do something that awful, that cruel to me!"

 

"I'm afraid it's true, Jill,"  says Bum.  "I tracked down the nurse who was involved in the switch."

 

"Kimberly didn't like the idea of you havin' a child that young and out of wedlock, so she told you that your baby had died, and your child was passed off to another couple, Jeffrey and Karen Myers,"  John Ross says.  "Kimberly has been payin' the doctor who delivered the Myers child, and YOUR child, and also the nurse all these years. The nurse is dyin' of cancer, and she confessed everything.  She wants to die with a clear conscience."

 

"Oh my God,"  Jill cries.  "Do you realize what you're saying?  My own mother stole my baby and told me that he had died?  What kjnd of mother does that?"

 

"One who obviously has no feelings and no heart,"  says an angry Craig.  "And one who's about to pay for what she's done."  Craig starts to leave the office.

 

"Anderson, wait a minute," John Ross says.  

 

"What?"

 

"We'll get Kimberly.  But we're gonna do this MY way."

Kimberly Cryder's home....later....

 Kimberly is in her living room sipping a cup of tea that afternoon when her maid walks in.  "Excuse me, Mrs. Cryder,"  she says.  "John Ross Ewing is here to see you, and he says it's important."

 

Kimberly sighs as she puts down her cup of tea.  "Well, I suppose you'd better send him in."

 

"Yes, ma'am,"  the maid says.  She leaves the room, and a moment later, John Ross walks in, followed by Sue Ellen.

 

"Well, good afternoon, Kimberly,"  John Ross says.

 

Kimberly stands from her seat, surprised to see that John Ross has brought his mother.  "Sue Ellen?  What are you doing here?"

 

"John Ross invited me to come along and witness your........business, is it?"  Sue Ellen replies with a smile.  

 

"There is no business to witness, or anything else,"  Kimberly says.  

 

"You think about that proposition I made you the other day, Kimberly?"  John Ross asks.  "Sell me your Westar stock, or do I expose your little secret?"

 

"There is no secret, John Ross.  And as I told you the other day, I will NEVER part with my shares of Westar that were left to me by my father."

 

"No secret, huh?"  John Ross asks.  "Still keepin' up this charade to the very end." 

 

"Kimberly, give it up.  We already KNOW your dirty little secret,"  Sue Ellen says.

 

"Kimberly, I'm sure you remember a nurse by the name of Stephanie Powell,"  John Ross says.  "And a little matter of a baby switch that took place, oh, about 13 years ago."

 

Kimberly's heart begins pounding with fear.  "I.....I have no idea what you're talking about.  I've never heard of this Stephanie Powell."

 

"Stop your lying, Kimberly,"  says Sue Ellen.  "We know all about it.  We know that your daughter Jill gave birth to a son 13 years ago, and that you and Allison Jones switched Jill's baby with the child of Allison's sister Karen, a child who, sadly, died."

 

Smiling, John Ross walks into the foyer.  A couple of seconds later, he returns with Jill, Craig, and Detective Steven Jones.  

 

"Jill knows all about what you did, Kimberly,"  John Ross says.

 

Kimberly looks at her daughter, and fights back her tears.  "Jill, I......."

 

"Save your explanations and your lies, Mom,"  Jill says, walking over to her mother.  "How could you?  How could you do that to me?  You know how it almost destroyed me when I found out that my baby died!  HOW COULD YOU DO THAT TO ME??!!"

 

"Darling, I did it for you," says Kimberly.

 

"Oh, that's rich,"  Sue Ellen says.  "That's VERY rich."

 

"You shut up and stay the hell out of this, Sue Ellen,"  Kimberly says.  "Jill, you were so young.  You were just a child yourself, and this......this......."  Kimberly looks at Craig.  "........This reckless punk had abandoned you for his own selfish whims.  "I was only trying to protect you from this horrible mistake you made."

 

"Mistake?"  Jill asks.  "My son was never a mistake.  The only mistake was that I ever trusted you."

 

"Jill, darling, I......"

 

"Don't!  Don't you EVER call me that again!  I will never forgive you for what you did to me, and I never wanna see you again.  From this moment on........I no longer have a mother.  Just as my son has been for 13 years, you're dead to me."

 

"Jill, don't say that......"

 

Craig walks up to the woman.  "I'm gonna take great pleasure in this," he says.  "Kimberly Styles Cryder, you are under arrest.  You have the right to remain silent.  Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law......"

 

As Kimberly's rights are being read to her, Sue Ellen watches with a smile, finally getting revenge after more than 30 years on the woman who destroyed her marriage to J.R.  Jill turns and walks out of the room.  John Ross takes one last look at Kimberly and smiles, then turns and walks out, followed by Sue Ellen.  As she is handcuffed, Kimberly's worst nightmare has come true.  Her life as she has known it, is now over.  After her rights are read, she is led from the house in handcuffs.  As her servants look on in shock, she is placed in the back of a police car.

Southfork....later....

         Lucy's car drives through the front gate at Southfork late in the afternoon as she is bringing Casey home.  As 

they drive up the long, tree-lined driveway, Casey looks at the beautiful house.  "Wow,"  he says.  "Can't believe I'm really gonna live here."

 

"Well, you can believe it, sweety, because you are,"  Lucy says.  

 

"Everything has happened so fast."  

 

"I know.  How do you feel?"

 

"Kinda scared,"  Casey replies.  

 

"There's nothing to be afraid of, Casey.  You are gonna fit right in at Southfork, and with the family.  And I know that soon, they're gonna come to love you."  Lucy pulls her car up to the house and comes to a stop in the parking area.  "Casey, before we go in, there is one thing I wanted to talk to you about."

 

"Sure."

 

"I know that you had some problems this past school year with Michael and Jacob.  Casey, I really want you to try and get along with them.  We're all gonna be living here together, so, do you think you can be friends with the boys?"

 

"Sure, I'll try."

 

"Good.  Come on."  

 

Lucy and Casey get out of the car and head to the house, Casey carrying his suitcase.  A minute later, they walk into the living room just as Ann and Krystina walk in.  

 

"Hi,"  Lucy says to the other women.  

 

"Hi, Lucy.  Hello, Casey."

 

"Hello," the boy says.

 

"Casey, welcome to Southfork,"  says Krystina.  "We hope you're going to be very happy here."

 

"Thanks."

 

"You'll be sharing Alex's room again.  He's made room in his closet for your things."

 

"I'll bet he just loved doin' that,"  Casey says sarcastically.  

 

"Casey, why don't you go on upstairs and get your stuff unpacked?"  Lucy asks.  "Once you're unpacked and settled, get your swim suit on and we'll go for a swim before dinner?"

 

"Thanks, but, I don't have a swim suit."

 

"You don't have a swim suit at all?"  Ann asks.

 

"No, ma'am."

 

"Well, I'm sure we can fix that,"  says Krystina.  "You can probably wear one of Jacob or Michael's swim suits.  Come on, let's see if we can find you one."  

 

Casey looks at Lucy, then follows Krystina from the room.

 

"Well, Ann?  What do you think?"  Lucy asks.  "Casey's a great kid, isn't he?"

 

"He sure seems to be.  I'm very happy for you, Lucy.  So, this is a probationary period?"

 

"Yes.  There's a one month probationary period to see how Casey and I get along, and how he gets along with the family, and if all goes well, at the end of the 30 day trial period, the board will review our case, and make a decision on me becoming Casey's permanent foster parent.  And Ann, hopefully one day, I could legally adopt Casey."

 

"Lucy, are you sure you aren't gettin' a little ahead of yourself?"  Ann asks.

 

"No, not at all.  Ann, it's like this is fate.  How else can you explain it?"

 

"Explain what?"

 

"This whole thing.  I was driving down the road just a few days ago and I see Casey, and I picked him up.  He's an orphan, with no living relatives except an aunt in jail.  It's fate that Casey belongs with me."

Meanwhile....

 Bobby is walking back from the stables just as Ray's truck pulls up to Southfork and comes to a stop.  Getting out of the truck, Ray spots Bobby coming from the stables and walks out to meet him.  "Well, hi, Ray,"  Bobby says as the two brothers approach each other.  

 

"Bob.  I wasn't sure if you'd be here or at Ewing Oil, so I called the house, and Ann said you were down at the stables."

 

"Yeah, I decided to take a week or so away from the office,"  Bobby says.  "Sue Ellen and John Ross can handle things there.  Besides, I don't think I realized just how much I missed workin' the ranch until I went back to work in an office."

 

"I know whatcha mean."  Ray says.  

 

"So how are things between you and Donna?"

 

"Well, that's what I wanted to talk to you about.  "I wanted to come over and thank you."

 

Bobby smiles.  "Thank me for what?"

 

"For talkin' some sense into my head.  I made that doctor's appointment, and, he ran some tests, and so far, they've all come back good.  My heart's fine.  He did say my cholesterol and blood pressure are a little high and he wants me to lose some weight.  As for my little problem, the doctor said it's most likely due to a combination of my weight, and my cholesterol and blood pressure bein' high.  He wrote me a prescription, and said if I make a few lifestyle changes, the problem should go away.  Main thing is, Donna and I have been communicatin' much better since I told her the truth, and I owe that all to you."

 

 

 

 

"Ray, I can't tell you how happy I am to hear that,"  says Bobby.  "Of course, I'm sure that eventually you would've come  to your senses on your own."

 "Well that may be so, but, it might've been too late for me and Donna,"  Ray says.  "Once again I let my stupid pride almost cost me my marriage.  Well, anyway, Bob, I also wanted to let you know that I'm takin' Donna on a much needed, and well deserved vacation for a couple weeks."

 

Bobby smiles.  "Ray, that's wonderful.  Where to?"

 

"Hawaii.  I've always wanted to go there, and Donna hadn't been there in over 20 years, so, I think it's gonna do us both some good."

 

"And what about the ranch?  You sure you can tear yourself away long enough for a vacation?"

 

Ray laughs.  "Oh, yeah.  I'm not worried about the ranch.  I know I'll be leavin' it in real capable hands with Conner."

 

"Yes, you are.  And if Conner has any problems while you're away, he can always give me a call."

 

"I appreciate that."

 

"Come on in the house for a drink?"  Bobby asks.

 

"I appreciate it, Bob, but I need to get home and start packin'.  Our flight leaves early tomorrow mornin'."

 

"Alright, Ray, well, congratulations, and you and Donna have a great time in Hawaii."

 

Ray smiles as he shakes Bobby's hand.  "We sure will.  See ya when we get back."

 

"Sure thing, Ray,"  Bobby says.  Ray turns and walks back to his truck, while Bobby heads for the house.  As Ray drives away and Bobby is about to go into the house, John Ross's car pulls up to the house and comes to a stop, followed by Detective Craig Anderson's car.  Bobby stops on the patio and watches as John Ross gets out of his car, and Craig and Jill get out of Craig's car, the three hurrying to the house.  "Hey, what's goin' on?"  Bobby asks.  "Jill, hi, it's great to see you."

 

"Hi, Uncle Bobby."

 

"Uncle Bobby, is Lucy here?"  John Ross asks.

 

"I saw her car drive up a little while ago."

 

"Do you know if she brought Casey Myers home with her?"  Jill asks.

 

"I have no idea.  Why?  What's happening?"

 

"Come on in and we'll explain to everyone," replies John Ross as he goes into the house,  Jill, Craig, and Bobby follow. 

 

As the group walks into the foyer, Lucy is coming down the stairs with Casey, dressed in a pair of swim trunks.  Craig and Jill stop short when they see the boy.......their son.  "Well, hi, everyone,"  Lucy says cheerfully.  "Jill, I didn't know you were back in Dallas."

 

"I.....I got here a few days ago,"  Jill says, unable to take her eyes off her son.

 

"Well, it's great to see you.  I'd like for you to meet someone very special.  This is Casey.......my foster son."

"Hello, Casey,"  Craig says, he and Jill unable to take their eyes off the boy.

 

"Hello."

 

"Lucy, we need to talk to you,"  John Ross says.  "It's real important."

 

"Oh?  Okay, what about?"

 

"Casey, I see you're about to go for a swim,"  says John Ross.  "Why don't you go on out while we talk to Lucy?"

 

Casey looks at Lucy.  "It's alright, Casey, you go on ahead."

 

 

 

"Okay, what's this all about?"  Lucy asks.  "What's so urgent it couldn't possibly wait?"

 

"I'd like to know the answer to that question myself,"  Bobby says.

 

John Ross, Jill, and Craig exchange looks, none of them knowing quite how to bring up the subject with Lucy, especially knowing how ,much the truth is going to hurt her.

 

 

Dallas Police Department....

Lucas is waiting in one of the visitation rooms at the Dallas Police Department when Emma is brought in.  Emma pauses at the door, the two staring at each other for a few seconds before she finally walks over and takes a seat at the table across from him.  "I'm surprised to see you,"  she says.

 

"I wanted to come and give you the news personally."

 

"News?  If it's about Logan, then I already know.  My friend, Vanessa, came here to see me earlier, and she told me that she had taken Logan to Southfork."

 

"Good.  I'm glad you know,"  says Lucas.  "And, you should also know that I am going to do everything in my power to keep you from ever laying eyes on my son again."

 

"Lucas.....you can't do that,"  Emma says in tears.  "Logan is MY son, too.  You can't keep him away from me."

 

"Oh, yes, Emma, I can.  Especially after everything you've done to me.  You lied to me and to everyone else, for two years, claiming that Logan was Kevin Channing's son.  You let that poor guy die thinking Logan was his son. And then, when confronted with the truth, you tried to kill me.  And as if that wasn't enough, you kidnapped Logan and disappeared with him for months.  If you think I'm ever gonna let you anywhere near Logan again, then you're even crazier than I think you are.  You're gonna spend YEARS in prison, Emma, and it's no more than you deserve.  Well, I've said what I came here to say."  Lucas stands to his feet.  "I guess the next time we see each other will be in court, at your trial. Unless of course you do the right thing and plead guilty.  But when have you EVER done the right thing?"

 

"Lucas, please......you have to know that I never meant to hurt you."

 

"That's always your story, isn't it, Emma?"  Lucas asks.  "You never mean to hurt anyone, but you end up almost destroying their lives.  You're like a train wreck.  But thankfully, my son and I are now free of you.  Goodbye, Emma."  Lucas quickly turns and starts to leave.  He pauses at the door and takes one last look at her, then walks out.  Emma breaks down in tears.  

Southfork....

 "No, this can't be true,"  Lucy says after John Ross, Jill, and Craig tell her and Bobby the truth about Casey. "It can't be."  Lucy stands from her seat on the sofa in the living room and walks over to the window.  

 

"Lucy, I'm sorry, but it IS true,"  Jill says.  "Casey is my son.  Mine and Craig's.  He was stolen from me when he was less than a month old, and I was told that he had died."

 

"Jill's mother, Kimberly Cryder, was arrested this afternoon for her part in the baby switch,"  Craig says.

 

"My God, I can hardly believe it,"  says Bobby.  

 

"Well, I DON'T believe it!"  Says an angry Lucy.  "It would be too wild a coincidence."

 

"Lucy, I'm sorry,"  John Ross says.  "But this is the truth, and you're gonna have to accept the fact that Casey is Jill and Craig's son."

 

Lucy looks at John Ross. "This was your idea, wasn't it?  You don't like me, John Ross, and you're doing this to hurt me."

 

"Lucy, I would never do that,"  John Ross says, walking over to her.  

 

Bobby stands and walks over to them.  "Lucy, I'm afraid that they're telling the truth, honey.  You're gonna have to accept it. Casey is Jill and Craig's son."

 

"Wait, WHAT did you just say?" Alex asks as he walks into the room, having heard part of the conversation.  "I couldn't have heard that right.  Did you just say that Casey......is Aunt Jill's son?"

 

"That's right, Alex,"  Jill replies.  "I'm Casey's mother."

 

"How?  I didn't even know you had a kid."

 

"It's a long story, and I'll explain later,"  John Ross says.  

 

"If he's Jill's son, then that means........that kid is my COUSIN?" Alex asks.

 

"We have to tell Casey the truth,"  Craig says.  

 

"Yes," says Jill.

 

"NO!"  Lucy says.  "If anyone is going to tell him...........it should be me."  Wiping her tears, Lucy braces herself. then walks out of one of the French doors leading from the living room to the back porch.  

 

Jill walks over to the French door and looks out through the window.  Craig walks over to Jill and puts his arms around her.  Craig and Jill watch together as Lucy approaches Casey at the pool.  Craig holds Jill tightly as they watch Lucy and Casey come onto the back porch and sit down at one of the tables.  Lucy begins to tell the boy the truth about his parentage. After almost a minute of Lucy talking to him, Jill and Craig see an expression of total shock come over Casey's face as the boy hears the truth.  Then Casey begins to cry, a scene which breaks Jill's heart.  "Our son,"  she says softly.  "Craig......that's our son........our baby boy.   If I'm dreaming, I hope I never wake up."

 

"It's not a dream, Jill,"  Craig says.  "We have our son, and we have each other.  What we should've had all these years.  I love you, Jill."

 

Jill turns to Craig and looks deeply into his eyes.  "I love you, too, Craig Anderson.  With all my heart."

 

Craig places his hands on each side of Jill's face, then the two begin to kiss.....

Southfork....one week later....

 "Do you, Jillian Renee Cryder Smithfield take Craig Anderson to be your lawfully wedded husband?"  A minister asks as he marries Jill and Craig in a small but beautiful ceremony in the living room at Southfork one week later.  "To have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, in sickness and in health, til death do you part?"

"I do,"  Jill replies.

 

"And do you, Craig Anderson, take this woman, Jillian Renee Cryder Smithfield, to be your lawfully wedded wife?  To have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, in sickness and in health, til death do you part?"

 

"I do,"  Craig replies, looking at Jill with a smile as his brother, Scott, stands at his side as Craig's best man, and his parents, Tim and Carol Anderson, look on proudly.  

 

"Is there anyone here who would show just cause why these two should not be lawfully joined together in holy matrimony, let them speak now or forever hold their peace."  After a brief moment of silence, the minister continues:  "Then, by the power invested in me by God and by the great state of Texas, I do now pronounce you husband and wife.  Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you Mr. and Mrs. Craig Anderson.  Craig, you may kiss your bride."

 

Smiling ear to ear, Craig leans over and kisses Jill as all the wedding guests look on, including Bobby, Ann, Christopher, Courtney, Jacob, Lucas, Heather, Michael, John Ross, Krystina, Alex, Bridget, Casey, Sue Ellen, Catlin, Justin, Pamela, Jimmy, Ashley, Dylan, Conner, Craig's parents Tim and Carol Anderson, his brother Scott Anderson, and grandmother, Mavis.  Standing alone in one corner of the room, looking on, with a sad expression, is Lucy.  After the ceremony is over, everyone approaches the happy couple to congratulate them.  Seeing Lucy standing alone across the room, Jill breaks away from the crowd and walks over to her cousin.  

 

"Lucy,"  Jill says.

 

"Congratulations, Jill.  You make a very beautiful bride."

 

"Thank you, Lucy.  And I want you to know something.  You will always be welcome to visit Casey any time you'd like.  If it weren't for you, Craig and I might not have been reunited with our son."

 

"Thank you, but that's gonna be kinda hard since you're moving away from Dallas."

 

Jill sighs.  "Craig and I both needed this move.  There are so many painful memories for me here, especially after what my mother did.  Dallas could never be my home again.  And Craig was lucky enough to land a detective job with the L.A.P.D. very fast."

 

"Well, I AM happy for you both,"  Lucy says, hugging her cousin.  

 

"Jill, you make one of the most beautiful brides I've ever seen,"  Bobby says, walking over with Ann, John Ross, Krystina, and Justin.

 

"I'll say she does,"  John Ross agrees.  "Beautiful brides run in the Ewing fam'ly."

 

"I sure was hopin' you were gonna stay in Dallas, at least for a while,"  Justin says.

 

"I know.  But, there's so much pain for me here, as I was telling Lucy.  After what my mother did."

 

"I understand."

 

"But don't worry,"  says Jill.  "You're all more than welcome to come and visit us in Los Angeles, if we ever find a place of our own."

 

"Well, I actually wanted to talk to you about that,"  Bobby says.  He turns and finds Craig in the crowd talking to Sue Ellen and Catlin.  He motions Craig over to them.  

 

"Hey, what's going on?"  Craig asks, walking over and joining Jill, Bobby, and the others.  

 

"I was just telling Jill that I wanted to talk to you both about where you're gonna be livin' in L.A.,"  says Bobby.

 

"Well, we'll be staying at a hotel at first, until we find a house or an apartment of our own,"  Craig says.

 

"Well, you know, I'm sure you'd always be welcome to stay with my parents until you find your own place," says Lucy.

 

"You don't think they'd mind?"  Jill asks.

 

"No, not at all.  I'll call them right now."

 

"That won't be necessary, Lucy,"  Bobby says.  "That's what I wanted to talk to you about.  Jill, Craig, we have a surprise for you.  I was talkin' to Gary a couple weeks ago, and he mentioned that one of the houses in the cul-de-sac where he and Val live is for sale.  It's two houses down from them.  So, three days ago, I called him back and he said the house was still for sale and that his company, Ewing Realty, was handling the sale.  So.......as a wedding gift for the two of you, Ann and I.......we bought you that house."  

 

Both Jill's and Craig's mouths fall open in shock.  "You........Uncle Bobby, you bought us a HOUSE?"

 

"Yes we did."

 

"We hope we didn't overstep,"  says Ann.  "But we wanted to do somethin' special for the two of you."

 

"And this is almost like history repeating itself,"  says Bobby.  

 

"How so?"  Craig asks.

 

"Lucy's parents, Gary and Valene, had been separated from each other, and from their child for many years,"  replies.

 

"Long story short, they found each other again, got remarried, and Grandma bought 'em a nice little house in the cul-de-sac in Knots Landing,"  says John Ross.  

 

"Yes, that's what happened,"  Bobby says.  "So, since your story is somewhat similar to theirs, I think it's only fitting you two should have the same happy ending."

 

Jill begins to cry.  "Uncle Bobby, Ann, I don't know what to say.  This last week has been like a dream come true.  I came home to Dallas, found Craig again, we found our son, and now, within just a week, we're married and we have a home of our own. And Casey has adjusted so well to this whole thing."

 

"This is gonna be a new beginning for all of us,"  Craig says.  The Andersons."

 

Bobby smiles.  "Who would've thought it?  Jock and Ellie Ewing's granddaugter married to Punk and Mavis Anderson's grandson.  I know my Mama and Daddy would be very pleased by this, and so would Punk.  And they'd be especially pleased by their great-grandson."

 

Across the room, Michael and Jacob walk over to Casey, who is standing by the fireplace looking up at the portrait of his great-grandfather, Jock Ewing, hanging above the mantle.  "So Casey, how's it feel to be a Ewing now?"  Jacob asks.

 

"Kinda weird,"  Casey says.  "This whole thing has been pretty weird."

 

"Tell me about it,"  says Michael.  "I never would've thought in a million years that you and I would turn out to be cousins."

 

"I know, talk about WEIRD, huh?"  Casey says.  

 

"Well.........welcome to the family, Casey,"  Michael says, extending his hand to his former bully.

 

Casey shakes his hand.  "Thanks, Mikey.  And I'm really sorry for........all the crap I did to you.  To both of you."

 

"It's cool,"  Michael says.  

 

"Yeah,"  says Jacob.  "I'm even gonna kinda miss you when you move away with your new parents."

 

"Hey, guys,"  Jill says as she and Craig walk over to the boys.  "Mind if we have a word with Casey?"

 

"Sure,"  Michael says, he and Jacob walking away.

 

"How ya doin', Casey?"  Craig asks his son.

 

"Fine, I guess."

 

"We have some good news,"  says Jill.  "We have a house out in California.  It was a wedding gift from Uncle Bobby and Ann."

 

"So.....I'm REALLY gonna be moving to California with you guys?"  Casey asks.

 

"Yes, you are,"  replies Craig.  "And we're gonna be a family.  Just the three of us."

 

"And maybe........one day four,"  Jill says.

 

Meanwhile, as Courtney is fixing herself a glass of punch, her cell phone begins to vibrate in her pocket.  She takes it out, looks at the phone, then quickly dashes down the hallway to take the call. 

 "Jason,"  she says, answering the phone.  "You have the results of the DNA test?"

 

"I sure do,"  says her friend Jason on the other end of the line.  

 

"And?  Jason, tell me."

 

"Well, Courtney, your hunch was right.  Your DNA and this guy Shawn's DNA was a match, which means........you have another sibling.  This Shawn guy is DEFINITELY your brother."

 

"Oh.....oh my God,"  Courtney says, dropping the phone as she tries to process this news....

    Emma arrested for attempted murder and arson.....I KNEW IT!! Emma FINALLY got her just deserts. Jenna??? A classy lady??? HA! That'll be the day!! Calculating manipulative BEYOTCH is more like it. Love the spoon bit for the DNA. Clever. I think Allison Jones got up on the wrong side of the bed. Looks like Kimberly Kryder did too. The Red Sox had the Curse of the Bambino. The Cubs had The Curse of the Merkle Boner. The Ewings have.....DUM DA DUM DUM.....THE SOUTHFORK WEDDING JINX!!!

    John that was a very touching and moving episode of Dallas I like the way you I had John Rosss put the screws to Kimberly kryder and Alison myers never underestimate a Ewing's power Jill disowns her mother John Ross helped reunite his nephew with his sister and brother-in-law Emma is going to be in jail for a moment but I know Lucas will I have a change of heart Heather Lucas going to try again for baby but no time soon Courtney got the answers she needed to find out about her brother Shawn that was a touching and moving episode John you outdone yourself as usual I can't wait to see what's in store for season 9 thank you a job well done get you some rest for next couple of months you earned it thank you and God bless

    Wow amazing just absolutely amazing, has to be the best episode you've ever done, love how the episode was just happy all around and how you wrapped up a lot of storylines, and the only real cliffhanger was with courtney finding out shawn is her brother, I wonder if this is a sign that you're planning to wrap the story up next season, if so then thank you for keeping this story alive the past 5 years and refusing to accept the story ending with what tnt left us with.

    It looks like a lot of trials will await us next season. I'm especially looking forward to Katherine's trial. She is on the war path and seems to count on getting out because of that hot shot lawyer of hers. If she got out that would spell disaster for the Ewings and the Barnes. I hope Pamela will take down that snake Shawn Smith together with the Ewings. She shouldn't give up on her brother or he'll end up like Cliff. I'm looking forward to see how Afton's character will develop as the new Barnes matriarch. Thank you for a great season, John. Is it fall yet?! :)

    A great last episode. Love how you tied up most of the ongoing stories. Very moving and exciting. Please get some good writing rest for a few months so you will be ready to go in October. I will miss your writing but you deserve a long rest.

    That, is so like Katherine! Her psycho son gets killed after taking almost the entire Ewing family hostage, and she wants revenge? Just proves sociopaths NEVER change.

    Katherine’s trail at the beginning of next season will really set the tone for the entire season. She has really lost her mind if she thinks she is getting acquitted of any of the charges against her. First of all, attempted murder is 25 years to life in prison, then you got conspiracy to commit murder, accessory to murder, kidnapping, rape; she left Jimmy for dead in that mansion of hers. I mean, that hotshot lawyer of yours might be good, but he’s not THAT good. To get you acquitted, Winthrop could be Johnnie Cochran himself, and he still couldn’t get Katherine Wentworth acquitted. Katherine getting out is definitely bad news for BOTH the Ewings and the Barnes because she has history with both families. I definitely think that that Pamela and the Ewings take down Shawn Smith, or maybe in a twist, John Ross and Pamela call a truce and he gets Kimberly’s shares in Westar, and they use those shares to get Shawn Smith out of Westar. Because John Ross and Pamela have a common enemy in Shawn Smith, and I know that Pamela wants revenge for how he seduced her and not only got her shares, but got her children’s shares too. And Afton, I think will do fine as the matriarch as the Barnes family. She’s a strong woman.

    Verena, I have bad hopes for both Brad Barnes and Shawn Smith. They both are going to end up like Cliff Barnes and Tripp McKay did. Dead! Both of them are attracting way too many enemies: The Ewings, Ewing Oil, John Ross, Krystina, Pamela, Jeremy Wendell snd Kenneth, and Adam Carrington. I believe at some point next season, both of them end up dead. Shawn, that money and power has gone to your head. Crossing Jeremy Wendell is how Tripp McKay got killed. Now Wendell didn’t really have a hand in killing him, thats Michelle Stevens doing. But using people, blackmailing people, and then spitting them out is not a smart thing to do. It’s not smart to blackmail two sharks like Katherine Wentworth and Jeremy Wendell. Or to sleep with a dangerous manipulator like Michelle Stevens who has already killed somebody, and you want to sleep with her, then toss her to the side.

Your psycho son put himself in a dangerous situation by taking almost the ENTIRE family hostage, and everything. What did you think was going to happen to him Katherine? Your son had two choices. JAIL or DEATH. He got death. And I absolutely agree. Little John and Baby Ellie Blake Ewing are absolutely adorable. I love that scene between John Ross and Krystina. They make beautiful kids. John Ross has been an amazing mother and wife, John Ross an amazing father and husband. And I would absolutely love new episodes of Knots Landing involving them because they are going to be out there with Val, Gary, and their family. But yeah, psychopaths just never change.

    I don’t know if John is wrapping up the story or not Trevor. But he’s done wonders with writing the story, dealing with character development, and so on. The whole situation with Andrew, Gavin, Courtney, and Shawn is definitely something to be kept an eye on at the end of the day. Shawn is doing to be floored when he finds out the real truth.

    A lot of the storylines went down extactly what I thought. I knew once Jill found out the truth about her son, that she would disown her mother and Kimberly Cryder would be headed to Jill. Plus I loved how John Ross, Sue Ellen, Jill, and Craig just ambushed Kimberly like they did. It went down extactly how I pictured. Allison got hers too. I think the move to California will be wonderful for Jill, Craig, and Casey. Glad it all worked out for for all three people. They need a fresh start. Emma will definitely be in jail for a little bit, and Lucas will have the power, means, and resources to take their son away from Emma for god. And that custody battle will be really nasty. And there is going to be one hell of a fallout between Shawn, Gavin, Andrew, and Courtney. He’s going to be really mad at his mother for not telling him, that’s for sure.

    I’m really sorry that Jacob was ever in that position to kill that monster even though it was an accident. He will have nightmares forever. Cleaning up his blood is also not normal. Glad Christopher told him about his own experience with Nicholas Trevino, and how he had to make a split second decesion to kill him too.

    I feel sick to death that sick SOB was going to rape Krystina. That’s just really disgusting to me. I wish Krystina had kicked him in the balls. But elbowing him in the stomach was a pretty good decesion to make as well. Manning had to be the dumbest guy in the world to think he was to rape Krystina and think he was going to live?!!! Wow, just wow!

Lucas Ewing has the the means, wealth, power, and resources to make that happen. There is going to be a nasty custody battle and it’s really going to be ugly from there.

    Thank god Ann and Bobby’s marriage won’t suffer because she’s going to be helping Emma. Ann is really the only person that can help Emma, and I know Sue Ellen can understand her because she has the same kind of relationship with John Ross that Ann has with Emma.

    I loved that scene between John Ross and Allison Jones. John Ross has been JR from tip to tail ALL season! Allison Jones is talking about him being run over or injured, and John Ross is sitting there with that smug look on this face. And he’s like, oh don’t be so sure, my daddy was a very powerful man who established lots of connections so he passed those connections from him to me. But the John Ross-Allison Jones were classic all season long.

    Yes, I sure am Trevor Campbell because they aren’t making smart decesions. I mean look at what they are trying to do? Get Jeremy Wendell out of Westar? And they already don’t like some of the decesions you have made. His henchmen Kenneth is going to be right there watching you from now on. Brad and Shawn are just really dumb. The kind of stunt they are pulling together is going to get them killed. I’d be very surprised if both of them last through Season 9. I called Tripp McKays murder from a mile away because he was blackmailing people, using people, taking advantage of them, and spitting them out. He had a mole up in Ewing Oil, John Ross and Sue Ellen and Christopher found out; John Ross fired her, which he has the power to do.

    @derek killing off Shawn is one thing, but I have a hard time envisioning John killing off Brad because with cliff gone, emma likely going to prison for a long time, and pamela married to justin, who would be left to cotinue the Barnes Ewing feud? The only way I would envision him killing off Brad is if he really was ending the story.

    Another great episode. Kinda long. Could have been broken up into two episodes. But still great. Feel bad for Lucy. Hopefully, she can adopt someone else. Would love to see Katherine, Kimberly and Emma share a jail cell. Can't wait for season 9 to see how the Shawn story plays out. Would like to see Jeremy Wendell's henchman play a bigger role.

    I can't wait to see what happens in season 9 with Katherine's trial because i'm sure there'll be a lot of bombshells dropped there.Also i'm wondering if Ashley might become pregnant with Dylan's child which could complicate a lot of things.Also i hope Connor gets more story in regards to him finding love.As for Jill, Craig and Casey i do think all 3 of them need a fresh start away from Dallas and a chance to bond as a family without any drama.However since i think Jill still owns stock in Westar and has family in Dallas i could see her coming back from time to time when the story needs her.
