EPISODE 203 - Extortion!

An office in Dallas....morning....

Afton, Pamela, and Justin arrive together at the office of Frank Andrews, Cliff's attorney in Dallas, for the reading of Cliff's will.  Brad and Marilee arrive and meet them outside the door of Andrews's law office.  Afton is surprised to see Marilee at the will reading. "Marilee, what are you doing here?"  Afton asks.

 

"Same as all of you,"  Marilee replies.  "I was asked to attend, per Cliff's wishes."

 

Afton and Pamela exchange curious looks, then the group walks into the office. 

 

"You must be the Barnes family,"  Andrews's secretary says.

 

"Yes, we are,"  says Afton.

 

The secretary smiles.  "Mr. Andrews is expecting you.  I'll let him know that you're here.  She buzzes her boss's office.  "Mr. Andrews, the Barnes family is here."

 

"Thank you, Mary,"  Andrews says.  "I'll be out in a moment."

 

As the secretary is about to say something, Christopher and Courtney walk into the office, much to everyone's surprise.

 

"Christopher, Courtney, what on Earth are y'all doin' here?"  Asks Justin.

 

"I got a call from a Frank Andrews, and he said he was Cliff's attorney,"  replies Christopher.  "And Cliff wanted us to be here."

 

At that moment, Frank Andrews steps out of his office.  "Well, please, come in,"  says the attorney, a balding man in his early 60s. Each member of the group looks at each other, then proceed into the attorney's office.  "Everyone have a seat,"  Andrews says, then walks to his desk.  He sits down at the desk as the others take seats in chairs arranged in two rows in front of the desk.  Looking at the group, Andrews opens up a folder laying in front of him on the desk, revealing a thick document, as well as several envelopes.  "Thank you all for coming here today," the attorney says.  "Cliff requested that each of you be here for the reading of his last will and testament."  Andrews picks up the document, which appears to be at least 10 pages long.  "Cliff came to me just about a week before his death and had me draw up a new will, since his old one was more than 2 years old.  In the new will, he included bequests to his grandsons, as well as provisions for any future grandchildren, and.........the big change, Cliff made provisions for you, Afton.  He asked me to draw up his new will two days before the two of you were married.  Cliff planned to ask you to be his wife, and, he assumed you would say yes."

 

Afton smiles with love as she realizes just how much Cliff really did love her.

 

Frank Andrews continues:  "Before we begin with the reading of the will, Cliff left letters to each of you, some short, and some longer.  The first letter Cliff wanted read.......is to his daughter, Pamela Rebecca Barnes, now Ewing."  Andrews opens the envelope and takes out the letter.  Unfolding it, he begins to read:  "My dearest, darling Pamela, what can I say to you that would ever fully express my love for you.  I have made so many mistakes with you.  I've hurt you so many times, and for the pain I've caused you, I am truly sorry.  Pamela, as you prepare to marry Justin Ewing, there are a couple of things I want you to know.  First of all, as you know, 

Justin is not the man I would choose for you, if I'd had that choice.  However, I can say that, despite his last name being Ewing and despite who his father was, Justin is a good guy and I do believe he will make you happy.  Pamela, all I've ever wanted is for you to be happy, and I hope with all of my heart that you have found your happiness with Justin.  I love you, my darling daughter, and I regret not only the years we didn't have together, but also the pain that I've made you endure.  With all my love, your father."  Andrews hands the letter across the desk to Pamela.  She takes the letter and looks at it, tears falling down her face.  Justin reaches over and takes his wife by the hand.  Andrews picks up a second envelope.  "This letter is to Cliff's daughter, Emma Ryland, but since she is unable to be here, I'll dispense with reading it and move on."  He picks up a third envelope.  "This letter, is to Cliff's son, Bradley Stone,"  he says, opening the envelope.  Taking the letter out, he unfolds it and begins reading:  "Bradley, my son.  I didn't even meet you or know of your existence until you were already in 

your late 30s, but nevertheless, I came to love you as if I had raised you from the moment of your birth.  We have shared many happy moments over the past three years, as well as some not so happy ones.  I want you to know that I am very proud of the man you are, and very proud to call you my son.  Bradley, I have only two requests of you, two things that I hope you will consider doing.  First, my son, I ask that you would please look after your sisters.  Now that I am gone, Pamela and Emma will need their big brother to be there for them.  I want my three children to be close.  To love one another, and to look out for each other in this sometimes harsh and merciless world.  Bradley, my second request is that you would consider legally changing your last name from Stone to Barnes.  Since you are my only son, and there are no other male members of our family that carry the name, with my passing, the Barnes family name would cease to exist.  Son, of course you do not have to do this if you don't want, but it is my wish that our family name be carried on for another generation.  I love you, my son, and you have made this old man's life much happier by being a part of it these last 3 years.  Sincerely, your father."  Andrews replaces the letter into the envelope and hands it to Brad.  "This next letter,"  Andrews says, picking up another envelope, is to Cliff's nephew, Christopher Ewing."  He opens the envelope, takes the letter out and begins to read:  "Christopher, the only son of my beloved sister, Pamela Barnes Ewing, I have spent countless hours thinking of what I was going to say to you, and agonizing over what I have done to

you and to our relationship, and over what I would say to you in this letter.  Christopher, no words could ever express the deep sorry and regret that I have felt every day for what I did to you and to Pamela, and to the twins that, because of my actions, were lost to you.  I was in a very dark place, and I was a sick man, sick with the need for revenge and power.  I know that is no excuse, and that I could never, ever make up for the loss of your babies and the pain I've caused you.  I can only imagine how disappointed your mother would be in me and in the things that I have done.  Christopher, please know this.  I loved your mother very deeply.  Pam was probably the only person who could keep me in line, although she had a full time job just doing that.  Even though Pam was not your biological mother, I see so much of her in you.  I want you to know that I love you, and I will carry to my grave the regrets I feel for the terrible things I've done to you.  Take care of yourself, nephew, and I hope that one day you will find it in your heart to forgive me.  And he signed it, Cliff."  Andrews hands the letter to Christopher, who takes it and looks at it, a tear falling down his face as Courtney takes him by the hand.  "These next three letters are addressed to three women..........Cliff's beloved wife, Afton; Marilee Stone, the mother of his son, Bradley; and Ann Ewing, the mother of Cliff's other daughter, Emma Ryland.  Cliff instructed that these letters are to be read by the three women,in private.  Mrs, Barnes, your letter."  Andrews hands the letter to Afton.  "Mrs. Stone,"  he says, passing Marilee her letter.  "And Mrs. Ewing's letter, since she was not asked to be here today, Cliff instructed that you, Christopher, deliver this letter to your stepmother."

 

"Yes, I will,"  Christopher says as Andrews hands him Ann's letter.  

 

"And now,"  Andrews continues.  "We'll begin with the reading of Cliff's will."  The attorney opens the will and begins to read.  "I, Clifford Barnes, being of sound mind and body, do hereby declare this to be my last will and testament, and I do hereby revoke any wills and codicils that I have previously made.  I set forth this document on this day, for the disposition of all of my personal and private property.  To my beloved wife, Afton Cooper Barnes, I do hereby leave the apartment which we shared in Highland Apartments in East Dallas, Texas.  To my beloved wife, Afton, I also leave 50% of my liquid cash assets, estimated to be approximately $14 million.  To Afton, I also leave my car, a 2017 Nissan Maxima, and all art work that I have collected through the years.  Afton, your total cash inheritance from Cliff's estate totals around $7 million.  As you all know, when Cliff went to prison a few years ago, he lost most of his personal wealth totally several hundred million dollars.  And last year when his and Bradley's company, Stone-Barnes Oil was lost, Cliff took another huge financial loss.  Let's move on.  The other 50% of my personal liquid cash assets, estimated to be around $7 million, are to be divided equally among my three children, Bradley Stone, Pamela Rebecca Barnes, and Emma Ryland.  To my son, Bradley, I leave a set of solid gold cuff links, and a watch that belonged to my daddy, your granddaddy, Digger Barnes.  To my daughter Pamela, I leave a pair of ruby earrings that belonged to your grandmother, Rebecca Wentworth, as well as a box of old family photographs and heirlooms because I know that, of my three children, you are the one that most appreciates the Barnes and Wentworth family heritage.  To my daughter, Emma Ryland, I leave a locket that belonged to your grandmother, Rebecca Wentworth."  Andrews pauses for a moment and looks at the assembled group.  "Now, that brings us to two special provisions in the will.  Cliff left a provision in his will for his three grandsons, Hunter McKay, Randall Barnes, and Logan Channing.  A while back, he had set up a special bank account and transferred some funds to that account in the amount of $10 million.  Cliff had also secretly purchased several hundred shares of stock in Wentworth Industries using an assumed name and a dummy corporation as a front because he knew that his sister Katherine Wentworth's son, Jonathon Lord, who is the current CEO of Wentworth Industries, might become suspicious that Cliff was attempting to mount a takeover of the company, which was not his intention."

 

"Then what WAS my father's intention for buying that stock?"  Brad asks.

 

"To provide for his grandchildren,"  Frank Andrews replies.  Cliff purchased that stock under an assumed name and then before his death he transferred the stock to the names of his three grandsons that are alive now, Hunter McKay, Randall Barnes, and Logan Channing, with a stipulation that any future grandchildren, both biological and adopted, would receive an equal share of that stock on their first birthday. The dividends from that stock are go directly into the special account Cliff set up for the grandchildren. Cliff wanted to make sure that his grandchildren were all well provided for.  The funds in the special account Cliff had set up was done so under the condition that no one, not even Cliff himself, could touch that money.  Each grandchild, those now living and any future grandchildren, will receive an inheritance from that money on their 18th birthday.  Of course the amount of the inheritance will be determined by how much money is in the account and the number of grandchildren at the time.  The second provision concerns Cliff's nephew, Christopher Mark Ewing.  Christopher, your uncle set up another special account in the sum of $5 million.  As per Cliff's will, that money is to be used to set up a foundation in the name of your mother, Pamela Barnes Ewing, that will help under privileged children, and your uncle wanted you to head up this foundation.  In this envelope contains instructions on how to go about setting up this foundation."  Andrews picks up another envelope and hands it to Christopher.  "Unbeknownst to anyone, for years, Cliff had been donating to various charities that help poor and under privileged children and families.  He remembered very well growing up in a poor family with very little money, and he wanted to help children growing up in the same circumstances he and Pam had grown up in.  Well, that's it.  Cliff's last will and testament, and his last wishes."

 

Christopher looks at the envelope he holds in his hand as the rest of the family quietly exchange looks between them. 

Southfork....morning....

  Bobby and Ann are seated at the breakfast table on the patio at Southfork as Maria pours Bobby a cup of coffee.  "Thank you, Maria,"  Bobby says.

 

"You're welcome, Mr. Ewing.  Can I get you anything else?"

 

"No, thank you, not right now,"  Bobby replies as Christopher, Courtney, Jacob, and Michael come out of the house.  They take their seats at the table.

 

"Mornin',"  Ann says with a smile.

 

"Good morning,"  says Courtney.  

 

"Dad, I have that meeting this morning with the lawyer to talk about setting up that foundation in my mother's name as Cliff instructed.  You wanna come along?"  Christopher asks.  

 

"Sure, I'd love to.  What time?"

 

"11 a.m."

 

"That works fine for me,"  Bobby says.  "I have a meeting downtown at 10, so I'll meet you at the attorney's office right after, and then I'm gonna drop in at Ewing Oil."

 

"Are you going back to work, Grandpa?"  Michael asks.

 

"As a matter of fact, Michael, I am,"  Bobby replies.

 

Ann puts down her cup of coffee and looks at her husband.  "Oh, you didn't tell me that."

 

"Well, I thought about it all night.  Of course I'm not goin' back to work at Ewing Oil right away, but I am gonna spend the afternoon there catchin' up with Sue Ellen now that she's home from her vacation, and I wanna see what's been goin' on there in my absence.  I won't go back to work full time until Katherine's trial is over."

 

"The trial starts in a couple days, doesn't it?"  Courtney asks.

 

"Yes, it does.   They're in the process of jury selection as we speak."

 

"I just hope they put that madwoman behind bars for the rest of her life after what she's done to this family," says Ann.

 

Bobby reaches over and takes his wife's hand.  "And I intend to do everything in my power to make sure that she does.  Only thing that worries me is this defense attorney handling Katherine's case.  A hotshot, very renowned attorney named Cass Winthrop.  He's a friend of Catlin's from when lived in Bay City, and from everything I've been able to find out about him, he rarely loses a case, even those that seem impossible to win."

 

"Well, Mr. Winthrop is gonna lose this one,"  Ann says.  

 

Bobby looks at her and smiles.  

Doubletree Hotel, Campbell Center, Dallas....

 

 

Cass Winthrop walks to the door of his hotel suite at the Doubltree that morning and opens the door to Austin Wentworth.  "Well, Mr. Wentworth,"  Cass says.  "Please, come in."

 

"Thank you,"  Austin says as he enters the suite.  

 

"Can I offer you something to drink, or some breakfast, perhaps?"

 

"No, thank you, Mr. Winthrop. Please, just tell me why you asked me to come here."

 

Cass nods.  "Alright, let's have a seat.  How about some coffee?"

 

"Yes, I could use some of that."

 

Cass pours two cups of coffee as Austin takes a seat on the sofa.  Cass hands him a cup and takes a seat in a chair across from him.  "Mr. Wentworth, I asked you here to discuss your mother's case.  As I'm sure you already know, I'm your mother's attorney and will be defending her in her upcoming trial."

 

"Yes, my mother told me."

 

"Fine,"  Cass says.  "Mr. Wentworth.......mind if I call you Austin?"

 

"Of course."

 

"Thank you, and you call me Cass."

 

"Cass, tell me the truth,"  Austin says.  "How bad does this look for my mother?  She could be facing life in prison, couldn't she?"

 

"Austin, I'm going to be perfectly honest with you,"  says Cass.  "The charges against Katherine are extremely serious and could carry a penalty ranging from life in prison......to the death penalty."

 

"The death penalty?"  Austin asks.  "Damn, I never even considered that."

 

"Look, even though your mother's circumstances are......bleak........they aren't hopeless.  We can argue that your mother was mentally or emotionally unstable at the time her crimes were committed.  And to be honest, I'm much more concerned about these most recent criminal charges.......the assault and attempted murder of Ann Ewing, than the crimes of more than 30 years ago.  Katherine was pardoned for the 1984 shooting of Bobby Ewing, so thankfully, that's one we won't have to worry about much." 

 

"Wait, what do you mean......MUCH?"  Austin asks.  

 

Our best chance that your mother will avoid the death penalty is an insanity defense.  We can claim that she was mentally unstable at the time of the alleged offenses, and that justice would be better served by placing her in a mental health facility rather than in prison."

 

Austin stands to his feet and looks at Cass.  "So what you're telling me is that my mother has a choice of spending the rest of her life in prison, or in a mental hospital?"

 

"Look, it's not as bad as it seems,"  Cass says.

 

"Well, I'd like to know how it's not.  Because things seem pretty bad right now."

 

"Austin, if I can convince a judge and jury that your mother was not responsible for her actions due to insanity, and if I can get her committed to a facility for treatment........it's possible that, if the doctors treating her determine that she has been restored to sanity........Katherine could be a free woman in as little as 3 to 5 years."

 

"Do you think that'll work?"  Austin asks.

 

Cass stands and faces him, then puts his hand on Austin's shoulder.  "I'm gonna fight like hell to keep your mother out of prison, Austin.  You can count on that.  And that's where you can help."

 

"Help?  How?"

 

"I'm going to call you as a character witness.  Austin, you know your mother better than anyone else.  You grew up with her taking care of you.  Protecting you.  I want you to take that stand and paint a picture of Katherine as a loving, kind, gentle mother.  Can you do that?"

 

"Yes.  Yes, I can,"  Austin replies.  

 

Cass looks at him and smiles.  "Good, good," he says.

Ewing Oil....

"Damn, it sure is good to have you back, Mama,"  John Ross says, greeting his mother with a hug at Ewing Oil later in the morning.

 

"Oh, it's good to be back,"  Sue Ellen says as Sly and Sally come over to them.

 

"Sue Ellen, welcome back,"  Sly says.

 

"Thank you, Sly."

 

"We've certainly missed you around here,"  says Sally.  

 

"And I've missed all of you."

 

"Well, we'd better get back to work,"  Sly says.  "Great to have you back."

 

"Thank you,"  Sue Ellen says as the two secretaries return to their desks.  

 

"So how was your vacation?"  John Ross asks.

 

"It was.......wonderful.  I had almost forgotten how peaceful and utterly serene the Southern Cross Ranch is.  I'm so glad that I decided to keep the ranch as a vacation home and weekend getaway instead of selling it turning it into something other than the beautiful ranch it is."

 

"Well, I guess that's one good thing Dusty Farlow did for you was leavin' you the Southern Cross when he died.  But, Mama, I have to ask.  Itn't it the slightest bit awkward, you and Catlin bein' there at that ranch where you lived with Dusty before?"

 

"No not at all,"  Sue Ellen replies.  "I lived with Dusty at the Southern Cross a long, LONG time ago.  The place has changed since then.  Yes, I do have a lot of memories there, but, now I'm able to build new memories with Catlin.  So, what's been going on while I was away?"

 

"Come into my office.  I got a little bit of news for you."

 

Curious, Sue Ellen follows John Ross to his office, where he closes the door behind them.  "So what's this news?  I can't wait to hear.  Am I going to be a grandmother again?"

 

"No, nothin' like that,"  John Ross replies.  "This news involved Allison Jones."

 

"Oh?  What about her?  Have you managed to find out this mysterious connection between her and Kimberly Cryder?"

 

"No, not yet.  I'm still workin' on that, but in the meantime, I have managed to get ahold of some information that could ruin the distinguished Ms. Jones for good.  Seems she has been embezzling money from the City of Dallas for the past 3 months in order to buy some stock from Apex Oil, AFTER she got an inside tip that the stock would double in value, givin' her a hefty profit.  She replaced most of the city funds she stole, but, hey, it's still stealin'."

 

"So, Allison Jones is guilty not only of embezzling from the city, but also of insider trading?"  Sue Ellen asks.

 

"Bingo."

 

"I just wonder."

 

"Wonder what?"  John Ross asks.

 

Sue Ellen looks at her son and smiles.  "I wonder if Kimberly Cryder could be mixed up in this.  I certainly wouldn't put it past her."

 

"It's possible.  I even considered the possibility myself.  Maybe Allison and Kimberly are partners in this insider trading scheme."

 

"That would explain why the two were meeting secretly,"  Sue Ellen says.  "John Ross,how did you find out about all of this?"

 

"Bum.  I've had him on Allison's trail for the past couple months, tryin' to find somethin' I could use to get that woman out of our hair once and for all, AND to find the connection between her and Kimberly."

 

Sue Ellen smiles.  "Good ol' Bum.  He never disappoints, does he?"

 

"Mmmm.......ALMOST never.  He still hadn't found out the connection between Allison and Kimberly."

 

"Tell him to keep digging.  I'm sure he'll find something.  And John Ross.......when you DO lower the boom on those two, I'd like to be a part of it."

 

John Ross looks at his mother.  "You still out for some sort of revenge against Kimberly Cryder after all this time?"

 

"Kimberly did help me keep your father from getting hands on Westar that time, but I also can't forget that she was his lover, and that she bore his child.  So, if Kimberly happens to be collateral damage in you bringing down Allison Jones, then, I'd like a front row seat.  Just keep me posted.  I should get to work.  I have a lot to catch up on."

 

"Oh, I'll definitely keep you posted,"  John Ross says as his mother leaves the office.  John Ross smiles deviously.

Westar Oil....

 

 

Shawn's secretary buzzes his office.  "Mr. Smith, Brad Stone is here to see you."

 

"Thank you, Amber.  Show Mr. Stone in."

 

"Yes, sir."

 

Shawn stands from his seat and walks to his bar.  A moment later, his secretary, Amber, a beautiful young blonde, walks in, followed by Brad.  

 

"Can I get you anything, Mr. Stone?" 

 

"No, thank you, I'm fine."

 

"Amber, you can go on to lunch now," Shawn says.

 

"Thank you,Mr. Smith, I do have some errands to run,"  the secretary says.  She smiles, then leaves the office, closing the door behind her.  

 

"Wow, that's quite a hot little secretary you got there,"  Brad says.

 

Shawn smiles.  "Yes, she is.  And she's very useful, too.  In a lot of ways."

 

Brad laughs slightly.  "Better be careful, kid.  This is the 'Me Too' era, ya know.  You wouldn't wanna be accused of harassment."

 

"Oh, trust me, I'm not worried.  Can I offer you a drink?"

 

"Are you even OLD enough to drink?"  Brad asks.

 

"Well, when you're CEO of Westar, you can do a lot of things that the average 19-year-old can't do,"  Shawn says.

 

"Yell, I'll bet,"  says Brad.  "I should've been so lucky when I was 19."

 

"Okay, you wanted to see me to talk some business.  So what is it you want?"  Shawn asks, handing Brad a glass of bourbon.  

 

"A business proposition.  I know that you are now enemies with John Ross, and that you'd like nothing better than to take him and Ewing Oil down.  Eliminate part of the competition for Westar, so to speak."

 

"And where'd you hear a thing like that?"  

 

"Word gets around, kid.  Dallas may be a big city, but, in many ways it's really just a small town where everybody knows everybody else, and where everyone knows most everything ABOUT everyone else.  So I think I can help you with that."

 

"Well, the first thing you can do to help me is  to stop calling me KID,"  Shawn says.  

 

"Sorry about that, I'm just not use to dealing with CEOs who are still in their teens," says Brad.

 

"Well, that won't be the case for long.  I turn 20 soon."

 

"Yeah, well....anyway, what I'd really like is a job."

 

"A job?  You want a job at Westar?"  Shawn asks.

 

"That's right.  Shawn, look, I know that you're still very inexperienced in this job.  How could  you not be? After all, you ARE very young.  What I'm offering is my help.  My vast knowledge of the oil business in exchange for a job."

 

Shawn laughs.  "Your VAST knowledge of the oil business?  Well, pardon me for saying so, but, your company DID go under last year, so, forgive me if I don't jump at the chance to learn everything you know."

 

"My company went under, thanks to John Ross Ewing and your brother, Tripp McKay.  Tripp double crossed me.  But trust me, Shawn, I could teach you a lot.  This could be a win-win on both sides.  We do both, after all, want one thing.........to ruin John Ross and Ewing Oil.  I already have a plan in the works to take care of John Ross and get him out of his family's company.  I just need an ally to help me bring down the whole company."

 

Shawn returns to his desk and takes a seat.  "I think I understand now.  Your old man is dead and gone, and now you wanna step up and continue that old Barnes-Ewing feud."

 

"This isn't about continuing a feud that started more than 80 years ago,"  Brad says.  "This is about a new feud.  It's about vengeance for all the things John Ross has done to ME.  And destroying Ewing Oil would be pay back for what the Ewings did to my father......taking his company from him and framing him for the murder of J.R. Ewing, which he did NOT commit.  Plus........I know your grandfather, Jeremy Wendell has GOT to be pulling your strings.  Because there's no way that a 19-year-old kid could possibly have pulled off the takeover of Westar Oil without someone awfully powerful backing him.  But is that what you really want, Shawn?  To be Wendell's puppet?  Or to be your own man?"

 

Shawn leans back in his chair and looks at him.  "You're awfully sure of yourself."

 

"And so are you.  And I think you need someone other than Clay Beaumont at your side.  After all, what can he really offer you?"

 

"For that matter, what can YOU offer me?"  Shawn asks.

 

Brad walks closer to Shawn's desk and looks down at him.  "For one thing.......loyalty.  Clay Beaumont is John Ross's nephew, and there may be bad blood between them right now, but when the chips are down and a choice has to be made, who do you think Beaumont's gonna side with, you.......or his family?  That's not a problem you'd ever have to face with me."

 

Shawn is silent for a moment as he thinks about what Brad has said, then he looks at him.  "Maybe you could help me.  Maybe we could help each other.  I have big plans, Stone.  HUGE plans.  And if I wanna see those plans come to pass, I am gonna need someone I can trust at my side.  So I have a proposition for you.  You help me destroy Ewing Oil and bring down John Ross, AND help me gain complete control of Westar.......and you get a seat on Westar's board along with a substantial amount of Westar stock."

 

"Sounds good, but it's not enough.  I want one more thing."

 

"And what's that?"  Shawn asks.

 

"I wanna be second in command at Westar.  You're CEO, right?  I want to be COO of Westar."

 

"You......you want the job of COO?"

 

"That's right.  Your current COO, Tom Griffith, is like 80-years-old, right?  So he should be retired."

 

"Tom Griffith has been with Westar for 50 years,"  Shawn says. 

 

"My point exactly.  He's a relic of Jeremy Wendell's era.  If you truly want to build a new Westar for the 21st Century, then you're gonna have to start with getting rid of the old guard and bringing in some new, young blood. I can help you with that."

 

"If I agree to your terms..........there will be one condition."

 

"I'm listening,"  says Brad.

 

"You help me with the Ewings, and help me.......get rid of the old guard here at Westar, as you put it, and once I get total control of this company, only THEN will you get the position of COO."

 

"Fair enough.  If I don't deliver, I get nothing."

 

"Oh, you'll get something if you don't deliver, Brad.  You'll wish to God that you'd never made me this offer."

 

"Again.....fair enough,"  Brad says, extending his hand.

 

The two shake hands on the deal.

Southfork....afternoon....

 Ann is arranging some flowers on a table in the den at Southfork when Heather walks into the foyer.  Seeing Ann in the living room, Ann's back to her, Heather watches her for a few seconds before walking into the room.  Turning around, Ann is startled when she sees her standing there.  "Oh, Heather, you gave me a fright."

 

"I'm sorry, I sure didn't mean to.  You need any help with anything?"

 

"No, and you're supposed to be in your room takin' it easy,"  Ann says.

 

Heather sighs deeply.  "I've been takin' it easy for days now, and it's........"  she pauses and lets out another sigh.

 

"You're bored to death, huh?"  

 

"That's puttin' it mildly.  I'm about to go out of my mind..  I'm not use to just sittin' around doin' nothin'.  I've always worked, my whole life."

 

Ann smiles.  "I know.  I understand.  But, darlin', you've got to take care of yourself and that baby you're carryin'."

 

"I know. I keep tellin' myself it's all gonna be worth it in a few months when this baby is here,"  Heather says, a tone of sadness in her voice.

 

The smile fades from Ann's face as she looks at her curiously.  "Heather, is anything wrong?"

 

"No, why?"  Heather asks as Courtney and Jacob walk in.  

 

"Hi,"  Courtney says.

 

"Well, did you two enjoy the park?"  Ann asks.

 

"Sure did, it was nice to get out of the house,"  Jacob replies.  

 

"Jacob, I can truly feel your pain right now,"  says Heather.  

 

"Honey, why don't you and get some rest?"  Courtney asks.

 

"But I'm not tired."

 

"Maybe not, but the doctor said that you still need to get plenty of rests, and that means laying down for at least a couple of hours every day."

 

"Okay.  I guess I can watch TV in my room,"  Jacob says as he leaves.

 

"His progress is comin' along real nice,"  Ann says.

 

"Yes, it is, but I still worry about him so much."

"Well, that's only natural,"  Ann says as her cell phone rings.  Picking her phone up from the coffee table, she looks at it and sees it's an unknown number calling.  "You two excuse me, I have to take this,"  she says, thinking it might be Emma since the last number Emma called from said unknown.  Ann quickly leaves the room.

 

"Heather,"  Courtney says.  "Now that we're alone, can we talk?"

 

"Sure.  What's up?"  

 

"Look, you can tell me to mind my own business, but I'm only asking this out of concern for you.  Heather, what's really going on with you?  You had to switch bedrooms this early in your pregnancy to avoid having to climb the stairs, you're on special diet, special vitamins, and on near total bed rest.  I know you said all this is just a precaution, but.......is that really the truth?"

 

Heather looks at her sister-in-law and struggles to hold back her tears.

 Meanwhile, Ann walks into her bedroom upstairs and closes the door, then quickly answers her ringing cell phone.  "Emma?" She says.

 

"Mrs. Ewing,"  comes the hideously deep, obviously disguised voice of a man on the other end of the line.

 

"What?  Who is this?  Emma?"

 

"No, this isn't Emma.  But I HAVE your daughter.  And if you ever want to see Emma again, you will come to Haggard Park in half an hour, and come alone.  And Mrs. Ewing......if you tell anyone about this phone call, your daughter will be delivered back to you.......one piece at a time."

 

Ann gasps and begins to cry.  As she starts to say something, she hears a 'click', signifying that the person has hung up. Almost instantly, she receives a text message on her phone.  Opening the text, Ann is horrified to see a photo of Emma gagged and tied to a chair in a dark room, with a text that reads, "in case you doubt that I have Emma."  "Oh my God,"  she says in tears.  "Emma."  Ann quickly grabs her purse and rushes out of the bedroom.

Meanwhile....the kitchen....

 

Courtney watches as Heather pours herself a glass of milk.  "Heather, please, tell me what's really going on. Maybe I can help, or at the very least, it might help you to get it off your chest."

 

Heather looks at her.  "Maybe you're right.  I've been carryin' this around for weeks now, with no one to talk to about it.  Maybe it would help to tell someone I trust."

 

"This sounds serious,"  Courtney says.  

"It is,"  says Heather.  "Very serious."

 

"Heather, what is it?"

 

"When I found out I was pregnant, my doctor diagnosed a condition called Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome."

 

"I've heard of that."

 

"Yes, it's a condition that could cause a miscarriage, or it could cause a high risk pregnancy.  My baby could die, or I could......"

 

"Oh my God, Heather,"  Courtney says.  "Can't the doctor do anything?"

 

"We're already doing all that can be done.  That's why she has me on bed rest most of the time, and why she wanted me to move to a bedroom on the first floor.  Any exertion, or stress could make this condition worse."

 

"Heather, you said that you've been carrying this around with you for weeks, and that you haven't told anyone?  Does that include Lucas?"

 

Heather looks at her and nods. "Yes, it does."

 

"Oh, Heather.  Heather, you HAVE to tell him.  He has a right to know."

 

"I know that,"  Heather says,  "But Courtney, if you had seen him when he found out I was pregnant........he was so happy.  Lucas never got to be a part of Michael's life when he was a baby, or see me through my pregnancy with Michael.  He wants this baby SO much.  He wants to be a part of this baby's life from the very beginning.  Courtney, how can I take that away from him.  How can I shatter Lucas's happiness."

 

"What are the chances........that something could go wrong?"  Courtney asks.

 

"Pretty high.  Dr. Webber even suggested that I........."

 

"That you......what, Heather?"

 

"That I have an abortion,"  Heather replies in tears.  

 

"An abortion?  Did you consider that option?"

 

"No, never.  And I never would. NEVER.  Would you?"

 

"No."

 

"Courtney, I'm scared.  I'm SO scared."

 

"I know.  I know, sweety,"  Courtney says as the two women embrace.  "We'll get you through this.  We'll get you through this  together."  Courtney looks at her.  "But Heather, you have GOT to tell Lucas.  If.......if, God forbid, anything does happen.......it would be worse for him than it would be if he were prepared for it."

 

Heather nods as she wipes her tears.  "I know.  I know I have to tell him.  I just have to find the right time, and the right words."

Haggard Park in Dallas....30 minutes later....

 Ann is waiting impatiently at Dallas's beautiful Haggard Park half an hour later.  She looks at her watch.  Her mysterious caller said half an hour.  Looking around, the only people Ann can see are an elderly couple walking, a couple of female runners, and a woman with a small child.  Obviously none of them could be her mystery caller.  

 

 

Finally, a clean cut teenage boy approaches her.  "Excuse me," the boy says.

 

"Yes?"

 

"Ann Ewing?" 

 

"Yes, I'm Ann Ewing."

 

The boy reaches into his pocket, brings out a small envelope.  "I was told to give this to you," he says, handing her the envelope. 

 

"Who gave this to you?"  Ann asks.

 

"I dunno, just some guy.  He gave me $20 bucks, described what you looked like, and told me to give you that envelope."  Without saying another word, the boy quickly walks away from her.

 

Ann takes the envelope and rips it open, taking out a folded piece of paper.  Unfolding it, Ann reads the note:  'Unless you never want to see your daughter in one piece again, you will bring $10 million to this location two days from now, wrapped in newspaper, and place it inside the bush next to the footbridge.  You will come at exactly 11 PM at night, and you will come alone or you will never see your daughter or grandchild again.  And inside the envelope with this note you will find another reminder that I am serious.  Dead serious."  Looking inside the envelope, Ann finds a small photo, takes it out and sees that it 

 is a photo of Emma, in the same room as the earlier photo she'd received by text.  She begins to cry.  "Emma..... dear God."  Ann quickly rushes back to her car.  Getting into her car, Ann tries to compose herself as she considers how she will come up with $10 million in two days.

Mitch's apartment....that night....

 Lucy is setting the table at Mitch's apartment that evening after cooking dinner for him.  After putting everything in place and then checking something in the oven, Lucy stands back and surveys her evening's work with a smile, feeling triumphant in her accomplishment.  She hears the front door of the apartment open and close.  

 

"Dad, I'm home,"  Lucy hears Daniel Cooper call out as he walks into the apartment.  "Dad, are you here?"  He

stops short when he sees Lucy in the dining room/kitchen.  

 

"Evening, Daniel,"  Lucy says.  "Your father's not home from work yet."

 

"You, uh, you here again, Lucy?"  Daniel asks.  

 

"Yeah, I thought I'd have your father a home cooked meal ready when he got home from the hospital after a long day.  Doesn't it smell good?  I made one of Mitch's favorite dishes.......roast chicken with rice."

 

"I see.  Well......"


 

"Well, I have to go and change,"  Lucy says.  "I'll be right back.  By that time the chicken should be done.  You gonna be joining us for dinner?  There's plenty."

 

"Thanks, I may just do that,"  Daniel says.  

 

"Good.  I'll be back in a couple minutes.  Oh, would you mind giving the rice a stir?"

 

"Sure."

 

"Thanks,"  Lucy says with a smile, then leaves the room.  

 

After she's gone, Daniel looks at the stove, with the large pot of rice simmering.  A look of mischief on his face, Daniel walks over to the stove, removes the lid from the pot with the rice, and looks at it, then replaces the lid.  Looking back to see that Lucy isn't around, he reaches over and turns the oven temperature up from 375 degrees to almost 500, and then turns the stove eye with the rice up from low to medium high.  The boy smiles deviously, then hurries out of the room.  

 

In Mitch's bedroom, Lucy is changing her clothes, and puts on a lovely dress, one of Mitch's favorites.  After changing her clothes, she reaches up and takes the bobby pins from her hair, letting it fall freely.  Walking to the dresser, Lucy picks up her hair brush and begins brushing her blonde hair.  Once she's done, she looks at herself in the mirror and smiles.  Her eyes fall on a framed photo of herself and Mitch on the dresser.  Lucy picks up the photo and looks at it with a wide smile, happier now than she's been in a very long time, and hoping that she and Mitch could once again have a future together.

 

Meanwhile, Mitch arrives home from work and walks into the apartment.  He is immediately met with the smell of smoke coming from the kitchen.  Mitch quickly runs into the kitchen and sees that something is burning in the oven.  He rushes over.  "DANIEL!"  He calls out.  "DANIEL, COME HELP!"  Mitch opens the oven door, and a thick smoke rises up out of the oven.  Looking around, Mitch finds two pot holders.  He grabs on to both sides of the roasting pot containing Lucy's chicken, and pulls it out of the oven.  As he tries to place the burned chicken on the top of the stove, he burns his hand and yells out in pain.  He then turns off the oven, and the stove eye containing the rice, which has also burned.  

 

"Hey, what's going on....."  Lucy says as she rushes in.  Her mouth falls open in shock as she sees Mitch with her burned dinner.  "Mitch, good Lord, what happened?"  She asks, hurrying over to him.  

 

"What happened?  I came home and found this dinner burning up in the oven."

 

Lucy looks at the chicken.  "Oh no!"  She exclaims.  "My chicken, it's burned to a crisp."

 

"Yes, and this whole apartment could've been burned to a crisp if I hadn't gotten home when I did."

 

"Mitch, I'm sorry, I don't know what happened,"  Lucy says.  "I could've sworn I had the oven set on exactly the temperature the recipe called for."

 

"Dad, what's going on?"  Daniel asks, walking into the kitchen.  He immediately begins waving his hand in front of his face to stave off the horrid smell of the smoke from the burned chicken.  "Hey, what happened in here?"

 

"Lucy was attempting to cook dinner for us,"  Mitch replies.  

 

Daniel looks at the blackened chicken in the roasting pan.  "Hmmm, wow.  Too bad,"  he says nonchalantly.  

 

"Yeah, it is,"  Mitch says.  

 

Lucy looks at Mitch's son with an angry expression, certain that the 19-year-old had deliberately turned up the oven and stove burner to ruin the dinner she had worked so hard to prepare.  Daniel looks at her and flashes a quick smile.  Lucy realizes that if she is going to have any sort of successful relationship with her former husband, she will have to do something about his trouble making teenage son.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Southfork....the next morning....

 As Krystina is brushing her hair at the mirror in her and John Ross's bedroom the next morning, he comes in from the bathroom, only a towel around his waist after taking a shower.  "Should've stayed in the shower with me a little longer, darlin',"  John Ross says.  "Felt great."

 

"Well, you know how long it takes me to dry and brush my hair."

 

"You, my dear, could come out of the shower with your hair stickin' straight up in the air and you'd still be the most beautiful woman at Southfork,"  John Ross says, walking over and putting his arms around her from behind.

 

"Hey, now, I'm already dry and you're still wet,"  Krystina says.  

 

"Sorry."  John Ross walks over to the bed.  "How about you comin' into town this afternoon and I take you to lunch?"

 

"I would love that,"  Krystina says as John Ross's cell phone rings.  

 

He picks his phone up from the bed and looks at it, then quickly answers the call.  "Mornin',"  he says cheerfully.  "Hope you got somethin' good to tell me because I'm already in a great mood and don't want my day ruined by bad news."  He listens for a moment to the person on the other end of the line.  "So, everything is proceeding as planned?"  John Ross smiles.  "Good, good.  Alright, just keep me posted.  Yes, I plan on payin' Ms. Jones a little visit later this mornin'.  Thanks for callin'.  I'll talk to you in a bit, Bum."  John Ross ends the call and smiles.

 

"Well, that sure must've been good news,"  says Krystina.

John Ross looks at his wife, still smiling.  "The best," he says.  "Today, I am removing a thorn from my side...... permanently."  He laughs.

Mitch's apartment....

Daniel Cooper comes out of his bedroom that morning carrying his book bag as he is about to leave for school.  He walks into the kitchen, opens the refrigerator and takes out a carton of orange juice.  As he pours himself a glass, Lucy walks into the kitchen, startling him.  "Morning," she says.  "Your father had to be at the hospital early, so he's already gone."

 

Daniel looks at her and sighs.  "I thought you left last night."

 

"Oh,I did.  But I came over early and brought your father breakfast to make up for the dinner he didn't get to eat last night........the dinner YOU ruined."

 

 

"I don't know what you're talking about, Lucy,"  Daniel says.

 

"Come off it, kid,"  Lucy says.  "I know you turned up the oven last night to deliberately ruin the dinner I cooked for Mitch."

 

"Now why would I wanna ruin my Dad's dinner, and mine?"

 

"To make ME look bad."

 

"You don't need my help for that, Lucy,"  says Daniel.  

 

 

"Let's get something straight, Daniel," Lucy says sternly.  "You've never made it a secret that you don't like me, and for the life of me I can't understand why.  Lord knows, I've never done anything to you."

 

"Why are you even hanging around my Dad, anyway?"  Daniel asks.  "Why can't you just leave him alone?  You tried marriage to him twice before and it didn't work out.  Shouldn't that tell ya somethin'?"

 

"Mitch and I were very young when we got married the first time, and we were from two different worlds.  We had different goals, and different values, and that's why our marriage didn't work out."

 

"And so, a few years later you tried it again, and guess what happened.......it FAILED again.  And here you are back here, all these years later trying to trap my Dad into a third marriage to you?"

 

"Who said anything about marriage?"  Lucy asks.  "But if it DOES come to that, it's none of your damned business."

 

"None of my business?"

 

"That's right, it's NOT!"  Lucy angrily says.  "Maybe if you were 10-years-old, your opinion might matter to me and to your father, but you're not.  You're 19-years-old and in college.  So stop acting like a spoiled little brat who's afraid his daddy is gonna get married again and not have time to teach him how to ride a bike.  It's time to GROW up."  Lucy walks past Daniel and starts to leave, but she pauses and turns back to him.  "Oh, and another thing.......don't get in my way.  I know how to handle spoil brats like you, because I use to BE one," she says, then storms out of the apartment.  

 

"So, you think you know how to handle me?"  Daniel asks after she leaves.  "Don't bet on that, Lucy.  Don't bet on that at all."

Allison Jones's office....

 Allison Jones is working at her computer when her secretary buzzes her office.  "Ms. Jones, John Ross Ewing is here to see you."

 

Allison sighs deeply.  "Tell Mr. Ewing to go jump in the lake," she replies.

 

A moment later, Allison hears a commotion outside of her door.  "No, you can't go in there!"  She hears her secretary say.

 

"Darlin', why don't you just get the hell out of my way,"  John Ross says as he walks in, followed by the secretary.  

 

"Ms. Jones, I'm sorry,"  the secretary says.

 

"It's fine.  Leave us alone, Connie."

 

"Yes, ma'am,"  the secretary says, and leaves the office.  

 

"This is a real habit of yours, isn't it?"  Allison asks John Ross.  "Barging into peoples' offices when you're not wanted.  I knew I should've hired a male secretary."

 

"Yes, I'm sure you wish you had,"  John Ross says.  "Especially with your rather..........healthy..........sexual appetite.  Let's see now there was that junior state senator, uh, what was his name?  And I hear that your latest conquest is.......does Senator Bill Watson know you're bangin' his youngest son?"

 

"You've been spying on me?"  Allison asks.  "I could have you arrested for that."

 

John Ross smiles.  "Well, I'd like to see try that, I really would."

 

"What the hell do you want, John Ross?  I'm busy."

 

"Yeah, I'd say that you HAVE been real busy lately.  Buyin' all that stock from Apex Oil.  I hear congratulations are in order.  Every share of stock you've bought has more'n doubled in value. Almost like you had some sort........inside tip or somethin'."

 

"How in the HELL did you know about that?"

 

John Ross smiles.  "Allison, haven't you learned by now?  I find out whatever I wanna know.  I wanted to know somethin' about you that I could use to get you out of my hair once and for all, and I found it."

 

"Where's your proof?"  Allison asks.  "You have NOTHING on me, John Ross."

 

"Oh, there's proof, darlin',"  John Ross says.  He reaches into his pocket and brings out a small envelope.  

 

"What's that?"

 

"My proof.  Taped conversations of you talkin' to your contact, provin' that you had an inside tip that Apex Oil stock was gonna go up.  And I also have proof that you have been embezzling money from the city to pay for your very substantial stock purchases."

 

"You're bluffing,"  Allison angrily says.  

 

"You wanna listen to this tape?  Here.  Go ahead."  John Ross tosses the tape onto the desk.  

 

"How did you get this?"

 

"Oh, let's just say someone here in your office has been, ummmm, pullin' double duty, so to speak.  But, I'll say that I have no idea who that person."

 

"You son of a bitch.  What do you want?"

 

John Ross walks over to her.  "Now that's more like it.  I want three things.  First, I want you to resign from your position here with the city.  Second, I want you to leave Dallas once and for all."

 

"You want me to resign and leave Dallas?  And go where? 

 

"I don't really don't give a damn where ya go, Allison, I just want you OUT of Dallas and outta my hair once and for all.  Hell, you could take all that money you raked in from that stock and start over just about anywhere.  And with your sister and your parents dead, you've got no fam'ly left in Dallas, so you got nobody to leave behind."

 

"And if I don't?"

 

John Ross at her and smiles.  "Then this tape, and other information I have, will find their way to the hands of the authorities.  And I'm sure you don't wanna be spendin' up to the next 10 to 20 years in prison, and that's just for the insider trading.  Now let me see, what sentence does the crime of embezzlement carry?"

 

"And the third thing?"  Allison asks, looking at him near tears.

 

"Third thing is......I wanna know what secret you and Kimberly Cryder are hiding,"  John Ross replies.  

 

"I've already told you.  Kimberly Cryder and I are not hiding any secrets."

 

"Then why did she pay the entire bill for your sister's funeral?  Don't tell me it was just to be nice, because that lady hadn't got a nice bone in her body."

 

"Your guess is as good as mine,"  Allison says.  "I have no idea why she did it."

 

John Ross looks at the woman in silence for a few seconds.  "You're not a very convincin' liar, Allison.  So here's what I'm gonna do.  I'm gonna give you until tomorrow to come up with somethin' better than that........like the truth.  I understand that your sister's son, uh, what's that kid's name?  Casey?  Is livin' with you since your sister's death. Sure would be a shame for you to lose him because you went to prison, wouldn't it?"

 

Unable to control her anger, Allison draws back her hand and tries to slap John Ross's face, but he grabs her hand in mid-air and stops her.  "You are truly the most despicable human being I have ever met,"  she angrily says.

 

"Darlin', I'm bein' kind,"  John Ross says.  "I don't guess you ever met my father, J.R. Ewing.  He wouldn't even give you til tomorrow to come up with the truth.  He'd just send that info to the police and ruin your life right now."

 

"And what about you?  You obviously bugged my office or my phone in order to get that information, and that's also illegal."

 

John Ross laughs.  "Well, y'see, I've already got my story ready for that.........someone who works here in your office sent that tape to me, anonymously.  And a voice expert will verify that it's your voice on the tape.  It's your choice, Allison.  The truth.........or all your dirty little secrets come to light, and you'll lose not only your job here, but your freedom and your nephew.  You've got 24 hours to think about it."  John Ross walks to the door, then turns back to look at her.  "24 hours, Allison," he says, then leaves the office with a smile.  

 

"You BASTARD, John Ross,"  Allison angrily says.  "You won't get away with this, I can promise you.  I'll find a way to pay you back."  She takes out her cell phone and dials a number, waiting impatiently for an answer.  Allison is about to give up and end the call when someone answers.  "It's Allison.  We have a problem.  I need money, and FAST."

 

 

 

 

Texas Capital Bank, Dallas....

 Ann is nervously pacing around the outer office of the president of Texas Capital Bank that morning.  She looks at her watch.  She has been waiting here for twenty minutes.  Finally, the door to the president's office opens and he walks out.  "Mrs. Ewing, I am SO sorry to have kept you waiting,"  he says.  "Please, come in."

 

Ann walks into the man's office and he closes the door.  "Mr. Norton, thank you for seeing me."

 

"Well, of course.  And again I apologize for the delay.  I was on a conference call.  Now, then, what can I do for you?"

 

"I need some money......fast,"  Ann replies.  

 

"How much money?"

 

"Ten million dollars.  And I need this to be kept quiet."

 

"Mrs. Ewing, I........"

 

"Look, Mr. Norton, I know this sounds strange, but, there is a logical explanation for this that I can't go into.  I don't want my husband know about this.  That's why I came to you, because I trust you."

 

"Mrs. Ewing, forgive my asking, but, are you in some kind of trouble?"  Norton asks.

 

"No.  I'm not the one in trouble.  But if I don't get that money fast...........please......this is a matter of life and death. We have that much and many times in more in our joint account, don't we?"

 

"Yes, of course, but....."

 

"And ten million dollars won't even be missed,"  Ann says.  "Mr. Norton, I have to have that money."

 

"Alright.  I can get it for you by this afternoon."

 

Ann breathes a sigh of relief.  "Thank you."

 

"I'll call you when the funds are available."

 

Ann nods, again breathing a sigh of relief, hopeful that she will soon have Emma back when this kidnapper receives the ransom.  

Allison Jones's apartment....early afternoon....

 Allison is at her apartment that afternoon frantically packing a suitcase for herself and one for Casey.  After she's finished, she hurries from her bedroom through the living room and to the front door of the apartment carrying the two suitcases.  She stops at the door and takes one last look around the apartment to see if there is anything else she wants to take, then she quickly leaves. A couple of minutes later, Allison hurries out of her apartment building.  Getting to her car, she unlocks it and quickly tosses the two suitcases into the backseat. As she closes the door and turns around, she is startled when Peter Watson, son of Senator Bill Watson, walks up and grabs her by the arm. 

 

"Going somewhere, love?"  Peter asks.

 

"Peter, what are you doing here?"  

 

"Well, when I heard through the grapevine that you were fleeing town, I thought I might need to see for myself if it were true, and inquire about the money you owe me before you skipped out,"  Peter says.

 

Allison looks at him and  sighs.  "Peter, look, I don't have your money right now.  But I will get it to you, I PROMISE.  Right now, I just need to put some distance between myself and this damned city."

 

"You promised me a hefty paycheck, Allison, if I convinced my father to push through the legislation creating that Oil Regulatory Commission of yours, and then convince him to make you a member of that commission.  Not to mention my tips about that Apex Oil stock."

 

"You've already gotten a very nice payment for your troubles, Peter."

 

"You mean the sex?"  Peter asks with a smile.  "While was indeed great, the MONEY is the main reason I was in bed with you, Allison, both literally and figuratively.  And I expect to get paid before you leave Dallas."

 

"I don't have the money, Peter.  You're just gonna have to wait.  I've got another situation on my hands right now that requires me leaving Dallas and laying low for a while."

 

"You're not going anywhere until I get my money,"  Peter says.  "You're in some hot water?  Tough.  You're in hot water with me also, baby.  I get my money, or you're going to jail."

 

Allison looks at him and smiles.  "Don't you DARE threaten me, you two-bit punk.  You're in this insider trading scheme just as deep as I am.  So you wanna turn me in?  Go ahead.  But I can promise that the cops will be knocking on YOUR door shortly afterward."

 

Peter laughs.  "Allison, you truly underestimated me.  Did you really think that I wouldn't take some extra special measures to protect myself?  I did.  So there's absolutely no evidence linking me to anything, but there's plenty of evidence tying you to inside knowledge that Apex stock was gonna double.  You must have made a killing on that, Allison.  So what happened to all that money, and where is my cut?"

 

"You'll GET your cut, Peter, you just have to give me some more time."

 

"Your time is running out, Allison.  You have until tomorrow morning.  And don't even think about leaving town, because I will be watching you.  So why don't you just take those bags right back up to your apartment, because you're not going anywhere."

 

"Peter, look, you once said that you cared about me.  If that's true, then you'll help me.  John Ross Ewing is the reason I have to leave town.  He's threatening to expose the entire Apex thing if I don't.  So, if I don't leave Dallas with Casey, John Ross will expose me, and then you'll never get your money."

 

"How do I know you're telling me the truth?"

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

"Well, I guess you're just gonna have to trust me if you want that money."

 

 

 

 

 

"Trust YOU, Allison?"  Peter asks.  "I'd just as soon trust an angry cobra I was locked in a closet with."

 

"Well as I said, if you want your money, then you have no choice."

 

"And exactly WHEN do I get my money if I do help you?"  Peter asks.

 

"Soon.  I know someone I can get it from."

 

"So tell me, what happened to all that money you made from doubling that stock?"

 

"A lot of it I had to put back into the city's treasury before it was missed,"  Allison explains.  "The rest, I........... re- invested it."

 

"I see.  Well you'd better get in touch with this person you think you can get the money from and fast.  Because if I don't my money by tomorrow morning........you'll be saying goodbye to the free life and hello to prison life.  Then I wonder what would happen to that young nephew of yours.  Oh, and Allison, you see that guy over there?"

 

Allison looks to her left, and sees a tall man standing beside the apartment building wearing dark glasses and holding a newspaper.

 

"That's Tony.  He and a couple other friends of mine are gonna watching you to make sure you don't try to leave town.  If you do, I'll know.  You have a great day, Allison."  Peter turns and walks back to his car, gets in, and drives away. 

 

Allison looks at the man by the building.  "Damn it,"  she says quietly, under her breath.  

 

 

Meanwhile, sitting in a car across the street is Bum, who has been taking photos of Allison and Peter.  After Peter 

leaves, Bum takes out his cell phone and types a text message, then sends the text.  Afterward, he dials John Ross's number and waits for an answer.  "John Ross, Allison Jones was about to leave, when she was intercepted."

 

"Intercepted?"  John Ross asks, sitting at his desk at Ewing Oil.  "Intercepted by WHO?"

 

"You'll never guess,"  Bum says.  "Peter Watson."

 

"Peter Watson? Well, well, those two havin' a lover's spat, huh?"  John Ross asks.

 

"Looks like it,"  says Bum.  "Like I said, their confrontation looked awfully intense.  Like a lover's spat.  One thing I could tell from watching........Watson stopped Allison from leavin' town.  What do you want me to do?"

 

"Keep an eye on Allison.  And, put a tail on Watson."  

 

"I'm already on it, John Ross.  As soon as Watson left I texted one of my men across the street to follow him."

Ewing Oil....

"Good.  Now you just keep an eye on Allison.  If she leaves the apartment, call me."  John Ross puts his phone away and leans back in his chair in his office.  "So, Allison, you let your young lover talk you outta leavin' Dallas like I told you to.  Well, we'll just see about that."

Meanwhile....Bobby's office....

Bobby is working at his desk when his intercom buzzes.  "Yes, Sly?"

 

"Bobby, there's a Keith Norton here to see you,"  Sly says.

 

"Keith Norton?  That's the president of Texas Capital Bank.  Thank you, Sly.  Send him in."  

 

"Yes, sir."

 

Bobby stands from his seat at the desk as Sly walks into the office with Keith Norton.  "Hello, Keith,"  Bobby says, extending his hand to shake Norton's.  

 

"Bobby, how are you?"

 

"Just fine."

 

"Mr. Norton, can I get you anything?"  Sly asks.

 

"You, thank you, I'm fine,"  Keith replies. 

 

"Bobby, if it's alright, I'll go on to lunch now."

 

"Of course, Sly, that's fine, you and Sally go on and have a nice lunch."

 

Sly smiles, and leaves the office.

 

"Keith, sure you wouldn't like a drink?"  Bobby asks.

 

"No, thank you, Bobby."

 

"Please, have a seat."  Bobby retakes his seat at the desk, and Keith takes a seat across from him.  "Now, what can I do for you?"

 

"Bobby, I hope I'm not making a mistake and overstepping here, but, I think there's something you should know,"  Keith says.


"Alright, I'm listening."

 

"I got the strangest phone call early this morning from your wife asking to come into my office for a meeting right away.  I told her fine, to come on, I'd be glad to meet with her."

 

"And?"  Bobby asks.

 

"And, she wanted money.  More money than she could withdraw through proper channels."

 

"How much money?"

 

Keith pauses a moment before answering.  "Ten million dollars."

 

 

"Ten million dollars?" Bobby asks, surprised.  

 

"That's right.  Bobby, normally I wouldn't have come to you like this, but I was.......concerned.  Mrs. Ewing acted strangely, like she was.......nervous.  Even afraid."

 

"Did she say what she wanted the money for?"  

 

"No, she wouldn't tell me.  All she would say is that it was extremely important, even urgent, that she get this money very quickly."

 "Keith, let me get this straight,"  Bobby says.  "My wife came to you today and asked you for ten million dollars, and she wouldn't say what she needed that much cash for, and she was acting nervous and afraid?"

 

"Yes.  As I said, Bobby, I was concerned.  Mrs. Ewing needing that amount of cash in a hurry, it made me think that maybe she's.........well, it's possible she's being blackmailed, or threatened somehow, especially when she made it abundantly clear that she didn't want you to know anything about the money.  Now, I realize that ten million dollars isn't a whole lot to the Ewings, but it's still a pretty good chunk of change.  If I've overstepped or stuck my nose in something it didn't belong, I apologize."

 

"No, Keith, you did the right thing,"  Bobby says.  "Did you tell my wife you'd get her the ten million?"

 

"Yes.  I told her I could get it for her by this afternoon.  Bobby, what do you want me to do?"

 

"Keep your word.  Get that money for my wife and give it to her this afternoon just as you told her you would.  I'll take it from there."

 

"Sure thing, Bobby,"  Keith says, standing from her seat.  

 

"Give me a call before your meeting with my wife."

 

"Will do,"  Keith says.  He nods, then leaves the office.  

 

 

 

"Annie, what the hell's goin' on?"  Bobby asks to himself.  "Why do you suddenly need ten million dollars so fast?  Only one reason I can think of.  You want that money for Emma.  That's gotta be it."

 

 

 

Kimberly Cryder's home....

 Kimberly is lounging by her pool that hot afternoon when her cell phone rings.  Reaching over to pick up the phone, she looks at it and sees it's Allison calling.  Kimberly shakes her head, and puts the phone down, deciding to ignore the call.  A moment later, her phone begins ringing again.  She picks it up again, this time answering.  "Allison, I'm busy, I don't have time to talk,"  she says.  "I told you earlier......."

Allison's apartment....

"Kimberly, just shut up and listen to me,"  Allison says.  "I need money, and I need it fast.  Things are spinning out of control here very fast, and if I don't get that money, you and I are going to be exposed."

 

"I don't even know what you're babbling about."

 

"John Ross Ewing is blackmailing me......"

 

"Yes, I know, you told me that before.  He wants you to resign and leave Dallas.  So why haven't you gone?"

 

"Because I couldn't,"  Allison replies.  "We have another problem.  Peter Watson."

Kimberly's home....

"Am I supposed to know who that is?"  Kimberly asks.  

 

"Ever heard of Senator Bill Watson?"

 

"Of course, I have.  When I was married to Wilson, he had some dealings with Senator Watson."

Allison's  apartment....

"Well, Peter is Bill Watson's son.  And, I owe him some money.  Money that he wants right away, BEFORE he'll let me leave town."

 

"Allison, why do you owe Bill Watson's son money?"

 

Allison sighs.  "Because Peter was the person who tipped me off about that Apex Oil stock.  He had a contact inside the company.  I promised him a cut of however much money I made."

 

"So?  Just pay him back.  That stock had to have brought you a small fortune."

 

"I can't.  I don't have much of that money left, at least not enough to pay Peter back.  Kimberly, I need that money.  I'm caught between John Ross on one side and Peter on another, and......"

Kimberly's home....

"That sounds like YOUR problem, deary, not mine,"  Kimberly says.  

Allison's apartment....

"You'd better think again, Kimberly.  This is not only MY problem, but yours too.  If I am arrested, the truth could very easily come out about our other secret.  So if I go down, Kimberly, you're going down with me."

Kimberly's home....

"Are you threatening me, Allison?"

 

"Damn right I am, Kimberly.  Get me that money, because if I get arrested for insider trading, I would have nothing to lose by revealing our other secret."

 

"You really prepared to do that?"  Kimberly asks.  "You'd be cutting your own throat."

 

"My life would be over anyway, so what would it matter?"  Allison asks.  "I need three million dollars, wired into my account by the end of business today.  I'll text you my bank account information.  And if I don't get it....... we're BOTH goin' down, Kimberly."  Allison quickly hangs up.

 

Kimberly sighs in frustration, a look of worry crossing her face as she fears that her entire world could go up in smoke.  

Texas Capital Bank....

 Keith Norton's secretary buzzes his office.  "Mr. Norton, Ann Ewing is here."

 

"Thank you, Gail.  Send Mrs. Ewing in."  Keith stands from his seat and walks over to greet Ann as she walks into the office.  

 

"Mr. Norton,"  Ann says.

 

"Mrs. Ewing."

 

"Do you have the money I asked for?"  

 

"Yes, I have it right here,"  Keith replies, showing Ann two brief cases on his desk.  He opens both cases, revealing two large stacks of bills in each, equaling ten million dollars.  

 

"Thank you.  May I have it?"

 

"Well, Mrs. Ewing........look, I don't like to pry, but, this is an awful lot of money, and....."

 

"I realize that,"  Ann says.  "And I really wanna thank you for doin' this so fast and on such short notice."

 

"You're quite welcome, Mrs. Ewing,"  Keith says, handing Ann the two briefcases full of money.  He looks at her with concern.  "Mrs. Ewing, perhaps you should have someone accompany you with all that money.  It might not be safe."

 

"No, I'll be fine.''

 

"Well, at least let me have one of our security guards escort you to your car."

 

"That won't be necessary,"  Ann says nervously.

 

"Mrs. Ewing, please......at least let me have a guard watch you until you get to your car."

 

After a brief pause to think about the offer, Ann nods.  "Yes, alright.  That would make me feel better."

 

"Good."  Keith picks up his office phone and presses a button.  "Yes,"  he says to the person on the other end of the line.  "Have Jace Andrews come to my office immediately.  Thank you."  Keith puts down his phone.  "Andrews is one of our best guards, Mrs. Ewing.  He'll make sure that you get to your car alright."

 

"Thank you, Mr. Norton."  Ann says.  A moment later, Ann is taken by surprise when Bobby walks into the office.  She looks at her husband, then at Keith.  

 

"Annie,"  Bobby says.

 

"Bobby, what are you doin' here?"

 

"I could ask you the same question."

 

Ann turns and looks at Keith.  "You told my husband about this after I asked you not to?  After I told you how important this was?"  She angrily asks.

 

"I'm sorry, Mrs. Ewing."

 

"Annie, don't blame Keith,"  Bobby says.  "He was concerned about you, and so am I.  Honey, why did you need ten million dollars from our join account, and why so quickly?"

 

Ann looks at him and begins to cry.  "Bobby, please.  If you ever loved me at all, you'll trust me.  This money belongs to both of us, doesn't it?"

 

"Yes, of course."

 

"Then I should be entitled to withdraw any amount I see fit."

 

"Honey, I'm not disputing that.  But when Keith told me how strangely you were acting, even afraid.  You swore to me that there would never be anymore secrets between us.  So I want the truth.  That money is for Emma, isn't it?  She's been in contact with you and asked you for that money."

 

"No.  Bobby, please, will you just trust me."

 

"You want me to trust you?  Then you're gonna have to trust ME enough to tell me what's goin' on here.  Annie, you're shaking.  Are you being blackmailed or threatened in some way?"

 

Ann looks at him and tries to hold back her tears.  "Bobby, I can't tell you.  If I do........."  she pauses and begins to cry.  

 

Bobby places his hands on his wife's shoulders.  "Honey, what IS it?"

 

"He could kill Emma,"  Ann replies.

 

"What?  Annie, what are you talking about?"

 

"Bobby, Emma has been kidnapped.  This man called me.  He called me from Emma's phone and he said that he was holding her hostage.  He said that if I didn't give him ten million dollars or if I told anyone, that he would kill her."

 

"Emma's been kidnapped?  Then she's in Dallas?"  Bobby asks.  

 

"Apparently so,"  Ann replies.  

 

"Honey, are you absolutely sure this is on the level?"

 

"What do you mean?"

 

"Isn't it possible that this man and Emma are working together to extort money from you?"  Bobby asks.

 

"What?  Bobby, no.  Emma wouldn't do that."

 

"After everything Emma has done in the past, nothing would surprise me."

 

"Bobby, Emma has been kidnapped.  That man said that he would kill her if I didn't deliver this money to him.  Now you've got to let me do that.  And you can't interfere."

 

"Ann, if this kidnapping is real, then we've got to contact the police."

 

"You don't understand.  This man said that he would KILL Emma if I told anyone.  He CANNOT know that I told you and Mr. Norton."

 

"We have no guarantee that, even if you pay this ransom, the kidnapper will let Emma go."

 

"That's a chance that I have to take,"  Ann says.  "Bobby, this money is supposed to belong to the both of us.  And if I have to spend every last cent of mine to save my daughter's life, then that's what I'll do."

 

"Annie....."

 

"Bobby, I HAVE to do this.  This is my DAUGHTER we're talkin' about.  Her life.  I know that you would do the same if this were Christopher or Lucas."

 

Bobby looks at her for a few seconds.  "You're absolutely right, I would.  At least let me help you.  I can get Bum......"

 

"Bobby, no.  If this kidnapper thinks that I've told anyone, he could hurt or kill Emma."

 

"Alright.  There's also a chance this kidnapper itn't workin' alone,"  Bobby says.  "And that means he could have someone watching you.  My suggestion is that we leave the bank separately.  You leave through the front entrance, and I'll leave through the back.  Then I'll follow you home."

 

"Alright,"  says Ann.

 

"And I'll have my best security guard, Jace Andrews, watch Mrs. Ewing until she gets safely to her car,"  Keith says.  He picks up the phone again and presses a button.  "Yes, have Jace Andrews meet Mrs. Ann Ewing at the elevator down the hall from my office in five minutes."

 

"Honey, everything is going to be alright,"  Bobby tells his wife.  "You go on and leave, and I'll be right behind."

 

Ann nods.  She gives Bobby a quick kiss, then takes the two briefcases filled with money and quickly leaves the office.  

 

"Bobby, this could be very dangerous for Mrs. Ewing,"  Keith says after she leaves.  

 

 "I know.  That's why I have no intention of letting my wife deliver that ransom alone without backup,"  Bobby says.  He takes his cell phone from his pocket and dials a number. "Bum, this is Bobby,"  he says when Bum's voicemail answers.  "Listen, I need your help.  Give me a call as soon as you get this message, it's urgent."  Bobby puts his phone back into his pocket, then leaves Keith's office.

Ewing Oil....

John Ross is pouring himself a drink in his office when a knock comes at his door.  "Come in,"  he says.  

 

Sue Ellen walks in.  "John Ross, are you busy?"

 

"No, not at all, Mama, come in."

 

"I have these contracts you need to look over and sign,"  Sue Ellen says, handing John Ross a small stack of papers.

 

"Alright, thanks."

 

"Are you and Krystina free for dinner tonight?  I was hoping the two of you could join Catlin and I for dinner at Perry's."

 

"Not sure I can tonight.  I might have somethin' I've gotta take care of."

 

"Business or personal?" Sue Ellen asks.

 

"Little of both.  Just between us, tonight might just be the night I find out that big secret Allison Jones and Kimberly Cryder have been hidin' for so long."

 

Sue Ellen smiles.  "Well, how exactly are planning to pull that off?"

 

"You just let me worry about that.  But if my little plan works, we'll never have to worry about Allison Jones again.  And you just might have your sweet revenge on Kimberly, too."

 

"Killing two birds with one stone,"  Sue Ellen says.  "I do like the sound of that."

 

As John Ross is about to say something, his cell phone rings on his desk.  "Hold on,"  he says, walking to the desk.  He picks the phone up and answers quickly.  "Yeah?"  He says.  He listens for a moment, then a smile 

comes over his face.  "Good,"  he says.  "I'm on my way."  John Ross puts his phone down and smiles.  

 

"Well, I take it that was good news,"  Sue Ellen says.  

 

"Oh, yeah,"  John Ross says confidently.  "Everything is falling into place.  I have to go."

 

"Go where?"

 

"Take care of some business."

 

"Allison Jones?"  Sue Ellen asks.

 

"Mama, right now, the less you know, the better.  But I WILL fill you in later.  I'll take these contracts with me and look 'em over at home tonight."  John Ross picks the contracts up from his desk, kisses his mother on the cheek, then leaves.

Southfork....

 Ann's car turns in at Southfork, and as she comes to a stop at the house, her cell phone rings.  Taking the phone from the cup holder beside her seat, she picks it up and looks at it.  It's a restricted number, likely from Emma's burner phone, which mean it could be the kidnapper calling.  She quickly answers.  "Hello?"

 

"Hello, Mrs. Ewing,"  says the disguised voice of Emma's kidnapper.  "I'm trusting that you've followed my instructions so far and you have my money?"

 

"Is my daughter alright?"  Ann asks.

 

"Answer my question first, Mrs. Ewing.  Do you have my money?"

 

"Yes, I have the money,"  Ann replies as Bobby's car pulls up behind hers and comes to a stop.

 

"Good.  Emma is fine.......for now."

 

"I wanna talk to her.  Let me talk to my daughter,"  Ann says as Bobby walks up to her car.  Ann lets her driver's window down and motions to Bobby to not make a sound.  "If you don't let me talk to Emma, then how do I know that she's alright?"

 

"Fine,"  the man says.  

 

Ann waits impatiently for a moment as silence falls on the other end of the line.  "Hello?"  She says.  "HELLO?"

 

"Mom,"  comes Emma's voice over the phone, sounding afraid and if she has been crying.  

 

"Oh my God, Emma,"  Ann says as Bobby stands beside her SUV looking on.  "Emma, sweetheart, are you alright?  Has this man hurt you?"

 

"No, I'm okay.  I'm just really scared."

 

"Emma, I know.  Baby, just hold on.  We're gonna get you back, I promise.  Emma, is Logan alright?"

 

"I.......I don't know.  I don't know if my baby is alright or not........"  Emma says, just as the phone is pulled from her hand.  

 

"Emma?"  Ann says.  "Emma, are you there?"

 

"You've just gotten your proof that Emma is alive and well, Mrs. Ewing,"  Brian Manning says in his disguised voice.  "But she won't be for long if you don't follow my instructions to the letter and deliver that money at 11 PM at the location I specified in my note.  And Mrs. Ewing.........if anyone else knows about this, or if you deviate from my instructions..........you will never see your daughter alive and in one piece again.  Do I make myself clear?"

 

A frightened Ann remains silent as she looks at Bobby.  

 

"DO I make myself clear, Mrs. Ewing?"  Brian asks.

 

"Yes.  Yes, I understand,"  Ann says.

 

"Good,"  Brian says, then hangs up.  

 

Ann begins to cry.  

 

"Honey, what'd he say?"  Bobby asks.

 

"Just that.......I'm to deliver this money  at 11 o'clock tonight."

 

"Where to?"

 

Ann looks at her husband.  "Bobby, please, you have to stay out of this,"  she says, getting out of her vehicle.  This man says he will KILL Emma if anything goes wrong."

 

"Annie, I CANNOT and I WILL NOT let you and deliver this money all by yourself at 11 o'clock at night."

 

"Damn it, Bobby, you have to! I will not take any chances with Emma's life,"  Ann says.  Taking the two brief cases filled with money, she brushes past Bobby and heads to the house as he watches her in frustration. 

 

Bobby is about to follow his wife when his cell phone rings in his pocket.  Taking the phone out, he looks at it and sees that it's Bum calling him back.  He answers immediately.  "Bum, thank God, I was beginning to think you weren't gonna return my call.

 

"I'm sorry about that, Bobby, I'm workin' on a case,"  Bum says.

 

"Well, listen, I'm afraid whatever case you're workin' on is gonna have to wait.  I need your help, now.  It's a matter of life and death, and I will make it worth your while.  I need you to meet me in half an hour in my office at Ewing Oil."

Meanwhile....

As Emma remains tied to a chair, Brian puts her cell phone back into his pocket and looks at her.  "Well, we'll know in just a few hours if your mommy is gonna come through for us,"  he says.  "And for your sake, you'd 

better pray that she does."

 

Emma looks at him, terror in her eyes, wondering what this psychopath will do to her, and to her mother, if Ann delivers that ransom.  

Allison Jones's apartment....evening....

 Allison is pacing around her living room that evening when her cell phone rings.  Taking the phone from her pocket, she quickly answers.  "Hello?  Oh, Casey, honey.  Are you having a good time at your friend's?"  She asks her nephew.  "No, sweety, I'm fine.  I know I sound funny, but I'm just tired, that's all.  Listen, Casey, I want you to stay at Tyler's house, and I'll pick you up in a little while.  Yeah.  I love you, baby.  And I'll see you soon.  I have to go now.  Bye.  I love you, Casey."  Allison ends the call and puts her phone down on the coffee table.  She looks at her watch, then begins nervously pacing again.  After almost a minute, her doorbell rings.  Rushing to the door, she throws it opens and finds Peter Watson.

 

"Hello, Allison,"  Peter says, walking into the apartment.  "Got my money?"

 

"Yes, I have your money.  I'll have to write you a check."

 

"Umm, I prefer cash, if you don't mind."

 

"Well, I DO mind,"  Allison says.  "I wasn't able to get my hands on the cash, but it's in my account, so you're gonna have to take a check."

 

"And what if the check bounces?  You could cancel the check, and since it's so late, I won't be able to cash the check until tomorrow morning."

 

"The check won't bounce, and it WON'T get cancelled,"  Allison says, picking up her checkbook from the coffee table.  "If you want this money, then you're just gonna have to trust me and take the damned check."  She rips a check from the checkbook and hands it to Peter.

 

He looks at the check in her hand, then reluctantly takes it.  "Alright.  Well, just to make sure that you don't try to screw me over, I'll just have my friend keep an eye on your apartment and make sure you don't try and leave before I get this cashed tomorrow morning.  As soon as I have the cash in my hand, you can go wherever the hell you wanna go."

 

"Gee, thanks,"  Allison says sarcastically.  "Okay, you have your check, now get out of here."

 

Peter looks at her and smiles.  "Alrighty, then.  I'll be coming back if I have a problem cashing your check.  Have a good night, Allison."  Peter smiles at her, then leaves the apartment.  

 

Allison lets out a sigh after Peter leaves.  "Good riddance,"  she says.

 

Meanwhile, Peter walks down the hall from Allison's apartment to the elevator.  He presses the 'down' button, then when the doors open, he steps onto the elevator.  Peter is startled when, before the doors close, John Ross and another man, one of Bum's investigators, step onto the elevator with him.  "Don't make a sound,"  John Ross says.

 

"Hey, what the........."

 

"I said.....don't make a sound,"  John Ross tells him again.  "Least not til I say you can."

 

Bum presses the button to close the doors on the elevator.

 

"Hey, what is this?"  Peter asks.  "Aren't you John Ross Ewing?"

 

"Give the man a cigar,"  the other man says in sarcasm.  

 

"What do you want?"  Peter asks.

 

"What do I want?"  John Ross asks.  "What I want, and what's gonna happen, is that you're gonna tell me what's goin' on with Allison Jones."

 

"Allison Jones?  I don't know what you're talking about."

 

"Don't lie to me, Peter,"  says John Ross.  "I know you and the lovely Ms. Jones have been havin' an affair for quite some time now, and I know that you just left her apartment."

 

"Okay, if you know that Allison and I have been sleeping together, then why do you find it strange that I visited her apartment?"

 

John Ross lets out a sigh.  "I see you're not wanting to cooperate.  Murphy, search him."

 

Murphy nods, then begins to forcibly frisk Peter.

 

"Hey, what the hell are you doing?"  Peter asks as Murphy, a tall, muscular young man, forces him against the wall of the elevator and searches his pockets.  Murphy finds the check Allison gave him and pulls it out of Peter's pocket.  "Hey, give that back!"  Peter protests.  

 

"Let's see what this is,"  John Ross says when Murphy hands him the folded check.  John Ross takes the check and looks at it.  "Well, well, what do we have here? A check made out to Peter Watson from one Allison Jones.  My guess is that this is the money Allison owed you for bein' her inside tip into that Apex Oil stock."

 

"How the hell did you know about that?"  Peter asks.

 

"Peter, I'm gonna tell you the same thing I told your girlfriend Allison.......when I wanna know somethin', I find out.  Peter, do you have any idea what the penalty is in this state for illegal insider trading?"

 

 

Peter looks at John Ross.  "Okay, what do you want from me?"

 

John Ross looks at him and smiles.  "I'm glad you asked me that.  What I want, is Allison's secrets.  The two of you must have done at least a little bit of talkin' in between.........well, your little love sessions. So tell me, Pete.... what dirty little secrets is the lovely Ms. Jones hiding?  And if you lie to me, I WILL turn you in to the authorities and have you arrested for insider trading, and not even your Daddy the good senator will be able to get you out."

 

Trapped, Peter realizes he has no choice but to give John Ross what he wants.

Southfork....later....

 Bobby and Bum are meeting in Bobby's office at Southfork that night.  "Okay, so here's the plan,"  Bobby says.  "I just want you and a couple of your men follow Ann to the drop off point where she's supposed to deliver that ransom money.  Just watch her from a distance, and make sure that she's safe.  If you see anything that looks like my wife is in danger, move in, and fast."

 

"Understood,"  Bum says.  "And don't worry, I'm not gonna let anything happen to Ann.  We'll keep a close watch on her."

 

"Thank you, Bum.  And one other thing........I'm not 100% convinced that this kidnapping is on the up and up, but if it is, and Emma really HAS been kidnapped........don't let anyone know that you're following Ann, not even Ann herself.  If that kidnapper gets wind that you've followed her, he just might kill Emma, and Ann could get hurt, too, and I can't let that happen."

"Don't worry.  My men and I will be completely out of sight.  No one will know we're there, not even Ann.  Now, time to get my men in place."

 

Bobby nods to him.  

 

 

 

 

 

Allison's apartment....

Back at her apartment, Allison is hurriedly getting together her and Casey's things once again.  Once she is done, she picks up the two suitcases, and once again is about to leave her apartment.  She hurries from the bedroom and through the living room.  She looks around again to make sure she hasn't forgotten anything, then, as she opens the door to leave, she comes face to face with Detectives Steven Anderson and Craig Anderson, along with a uniformed police officer.  "Allison Jones?"  Craig Anderson asks.

 

"Yes.  Who are you?  What is this?"  Allison asks.

 

"Ms. Jones, I'm Detective Craig Anderson with the Dallas Police, and this is my partner, Detective Steven Jones.  Ms. Jones, you are under arrest."

 

"Under arrest?  For WHAT?"  

 

"For illegal insider trading,"  Steven replies.  

 

"Please place your hands behind your back,"  Steven tells her.  

 

"This has to be a mistake."

 

"No mistake, Ms. Jones,"  Craig says.  "Place your hands behind your back, please."

 

Near tears and her heart pounding with fear, Allison does as she is told, realizing her entire world is going up in smoke.

 

"Allison Jones, you are under arrest,"  the uniformed police officer says as he places a pair of handcuffs on her.  "You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney.  If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed to you by the court."

 

"Come on, let's go,"  Steven says as Allison is led from her apartment in handcuffs.  As she is led out, a look of anger comes over Allison's face.  John Ross or Peter?  Which one had turned her in to the police, she wonders.  Which ever one, would pay.

Southfork....

 Ann lays the two brief cases filled with money on her and Bobby's bed and opens both cases, looking at all the cash.  When she hears someone coming, she quickly closes the two briefcases just as Bobby walks into the bedroom.  "It's alright, honey, it's just me,"  Bobby says.  

 

"Bobby, you scared me.  I didn't know who it was."

 

Bobby walks over to her.  "Annie......."

 

"Bobby, don't.  Don't say anything.  Because I know you're just gonna try and talk me out of this, but this is somethin' that I have to do.  For my daughter."

 

"I know,"  Bobby says.  "I wish that you would at least let me go with you.  Or follow you."

 

"No.  Bobby, that kidnapper told me that if I told anyone, or if anything went wrong tonight, he would kill Emma."  Ann looks at her watch.  "It's time.  I have to go."

 

"Annie, who's to say this kidnapper won't harm you after he has that money?"

 

"I don't know.  But it's a chance I have to take, and I have to go NOW."

 

"Alright, but you call me just as soon as this is done and you're safely out of there."

 

"I will.  Bobby, I love you,"  Ann says, kissing him.

 

"I love you too.  You be careful."

 

"I will."  Ann picks up the two briefcases, looks at Bobby, then hurries out of the room as Bobby watches at her with worry.  He takes his cell phone from his pocket and types a text message to Bum, alerting him that Ann has left.  

 

 

 

 

A couple of minutes later, Ann drives out of the front gate at Southfork.  Parked just down the road past the gate, Bum starts his car and begins following her.  

 

 

 

 

Meanwhile....a dark room somewhere in Dallas....

 Brian Manning looks at the clock on Emma's cell phone, then looks at Emma as she sits tied up in a chair and smiles at her.  "Well, it's time.  When I come back here, I'll be ten million dollars richer, and then you and I can take a little trip together."

 

 

 

 

"What?  A trip?  What are you talking about?"  Emma asks.  "You told my mother that when you got the ransom money, you were gonna let me go."

 

 

Brian looks at her.  "Yeah, well, plans have changed.  You see, cousin Emma, I'm afraid that I won't be able to let you go after I get that money.  Because if I let you go, then you're gonna run and tell everyone that I'm alive, and I just can't have that.  Everyone thinks that I'm dead, and that's the way it has to stay."

 

"And what are you planning on doing with me?"

 

"You're gonna come with me to wherever I end up going,"  Brian replies.  "The two of us are gonna be traveling companions for a while.  Doesn't that sound like fun?  Two cousins, wild and carefree, out there on the road just goin' wherever that old road takes us.  It's gonna be a blast."

 

"And what about my baby?"  Emma asks in tears.

 

"Your baby is just fine, and is being well taken care of."

 

"You son of a bitch, if you hurt my son, I'll......"

 

"Now that isn't very nice, Emma,"  Brian says.  "Not a nice thing at all to call your favorite cousin.  You just sit tight."  Brian places the gag over Emma's mouth.  "I'll be back in a little while with that money.  And while you're sitting here, you'd better pray that your mommy follows my directions to the letter.  Because if she doesn't........ well, you and I probably won't be traveling together then, because you'll be dead."  He smiles at her and winks, then leaves the room, locking the door on his way out.

 

Emma tries to scream, but is unable to with the gag over her mouth.  She begins to cry uncontrollably as she thinks about her son Logan, and as she fears that she will never see her son again.  

Haggard Park....a short time later....

 Nervously looking around her, and looking over her shoulder, Ann cautiously makes her way from her car to the spot Brian had specified in his note to her......the spot where she was to leave the money.  Even though it was late spring, it was an unseasonably cold night, with temperatures in the mid-50s.  Even though she is wearing a coat, Ann shivers in the cold night air, more out of fear than out of actual cold.  Reaching the destination spot, Ann leaves the two briefcases on top of each other inside a large and full bush next to the footbridge at the park, just as Brian had instructed.  Unknown to Ann, Bum is watching from nearby.  Not far from him are three more of his 

men, also keeping an eye on Ann and the money.  Once she had planted the money-filled briefcases in the bush, Ann pauses for a few seconds, then looks around to make sure no one is watching, then she quickly walks away from the spot.  After Ann gets back into her car and drives away, someone emerges from behind a group of trees not far from where she had placed the ransom money.  The dark figure, wearing a black hoodie and jeans, runs over to where the money has been stashed, and quickly takes the two briefcases out. As he attempted to flee the area on foot, Bum and his men immediately move in, two of them cutting off the pick-up man's path.  He turns to flee in the other direction, and Bum and another man stop him.  

 

"Hold it,"  Bum says, as the man with him pulls a gun.  "You're not goin' anywhere."  Bum walks over to him.  "Now let's just find out who the hell you are."  Bum pulls the hoodie from the man's face, revealing him to be

the same teenage boy who had delivered the ransom note to Ann at the park the day before.  Bum looks at the boy with surprise.  

 

 

Meanwhile, watching with a pair of binoculars from a hidden location across the street from the park, Brian sees his teenage minion being detained by Bum and his men.  "Damn it,"  he says in anger.  "Ann Ewing, you've made the biggest mistake of your life.  And your daughter's gonna pay for it with hers."

    It's good that, given what Heather is going through, she has somebody she can confide in and trust like Courtney, but Courtney is right. She does need to tell Lucas and right now. Yes. Ann should have told Bobby from the word "go", BUT at least she told him at all instead of trying to bluff and lie her way out of it like she did with previous Emma episodes. Brad? DEFINITELY headed for a fall. He's getting it from both sides. First from John Ross and then from Adam Carrington. I wouldn't be surprised if Adam tries to throw him under the bus with the Feds or if Adam goes down, Brad goes down with him. With Afton getting 50% of Cliff's cash assets, I wonder what she's going to do. If she going to try and become a vindictive Alexis-type bitch or is she just going to take the money and run? Daniel is being a little shit. He need to stop acting like a spoiled brat and leave his father and Lucy alone. Letting Brad in at Westar could end up being Shawn's downfall. Brad could pull the rug out from under Shawn and I think Clay could end up being the odd man out. Emma wants to dance? She needs to pay the piper.

    I really liked the scene at the lawyer's office, especially Cliff' s final statements to Pamela and Brad. I wonder what he wrote in his letters to Marilee, Ann and Afton. I hope this will bring some sort of closure for Afton and she won't break down. I wonder what Afton will do with the cash, expand her club? This secret Wentworth stock for the grandchildren is surprising. I wonder what this might lead to. Brad is stupid for wanting to start a new feud and working with two snakes like Adam and Shawn. Pamela might have to take care of him, not the other way around! Thanks for a long chapter, John. : )

    @Trevor Brian is the psycho son of psycho Katherine. For the record, I DO NOT like Emma. Emma is what Lucy used to be - a spoiled brat. However, there is a difference. With Lucy, it was essentially harmless and she eventually grew out of it. With Emma, it's causing her family and a lot of people around her an awful lot of pain and she HASN'T grown out of it.

    @Parker Bena I agree that Emma needs to pay for her actions but that doesn't mean she deserves to be kidnapped by Brian or to die.Plus despite what she's done she's Logan's mother and Ann's daughter and i think for those two reasons Bobby, Lucas and the other Ewings won't let anything happen to her.Yeah they may want her in jail but that's very different then wanting her dead.
    @Verena I wonder if Cliff's final wishes were for his kids to be a family and maybe that's wrote to Ann, Merilee and Afton because he wants them to help Pamela, Emma and Brad be a family.As for Pamela, if iwere her i might go to Shawn and threaten to reveal that he blackmailed her to get those shares if he doesn't leave Brad alone because if it comes out that Shawn blackmailed Pamela that could invalidate his right to the Westar shares or it could force him to at least temporarily step down as CEO.

    Another great episode, John. Hope Ann doesn't over react to what Bobby and Bum did. I was afraid Brian would be caught or killed then finding Emma would be very difficult.
    Lucy and Mitch deserve some happiness, maybe the third time is the charm??
    John Ross is closing in on the secret but could that be short lived with Adam Carrington out to bring him down?
    I am also curious what's in the letters Cliff wrote.
    There's a lot going on at Southfork with the Ewings.

    @ Andrew I can definitely imagine that Cliff might have asked Afton to act as matriarch of the Barnes family now that she is officially "Mrs. Barnes". He knows she's tough enough to do this, even to deal with Brad. Cliff might also have asked her to try to get along with Marilee, so that Brad and Pamela can grow even closer. This is one thing I can't really picture working out though! LOL

Adam Carrington would throw Brad under the bus to save his own neck; and Shawn Smith would do the same exact thing because he’s still dealing with a very dangerous Jeremy Wendell. I think Pamela will get Shawn to leave him alone because if she doesn’t, she will reveal to everybody that he used her, and seduced her into giving up not only her shares but her children’s shares as well. Like I said, Shawn is a kid playing an adult game. People like John Ross and Pamela been in the oil business for years and they know that sometimes you have to get your hands dirty every once in a while to get rid of people. And Justin doesn’t know how Shawn got those shares too.

    Wow! Afton and Marilee getting along is just something I don’t see happening either! Because Marilee is somebody I just can’t see getting along with anybody. I promise to god, that woman is so rigid LOL! I’m still on the fact that she told Bobby and the rest of the Ewings hey if my son Brad comes after you, will you take it easy on him?!!! I’d be like really Marilee? And then she says if you come after my son, I will destroy you. From that moment on, Marilee Stone was known for her tact just like Cliff Barnes was. But Afton is a lot tougher than she looks, and I would expect her to handle Marilee’s tactful comments. But I would love to see these two in the ring with each other. I think Afton would knock Marilee out and I would love to see that.

He must have sent out a decoy just in case he felt he was being watched and he saw Bum and the men, which means he knew that those men were watching him. And that’s how he knows that Ann had backup. Now there’s no telling what this sadistic maniac will do to Emma Ryland now.

Which means that spells trouble for Kimberly Cryder, and it doesn’t matter if Peter or John Ross spilled the beans on you Allison, the fact is you are going to be in jail for at least 10 to 20 years for insider trading theft. But I think that Peter is the guy that spilled on the canary. At least John Ross gave Allison 24 hours to decide what to do.

    I can’t wait till John Ross tells his sister Jill about everything that Allison and Kimberly have done, and how it connects to her child. Boy! She is going to get the surprise of her life when she finds out that her child that she thought died is alive and well. Man, that’s going to be super awkward when he tells her everything. But she’s going to thank John Ross for what he did. He’s a badass brother, that’s for sure. He actually has a relationship with his brother Justin, sister Jill, nephew Jimmy, ok he might need to work on his relationship with Ashley and Clay Beaumont a little bit, but for the most part he’s a different person. She’s going to be in shock once John Ross tells Jill what her evil mother did regarding her child. Jill just might never ever talk to her mother again, or she might confront her in jail to get an explanation of why she did what she did. She deserves that much, that’s for sure.

I’m sure that Cally adores Pamela. Hopefully the fourth time is the charm for Pamela. The third time was the charm for John Ross. Anyway I hope it all works out for Pamela and Justin, and who knows they might have a child of their own.

    With regard to Adam's deal, the Feds are DEFINITELY going to get involved, ESPECIALLY when you consider everything that's going on in Iran in real life. Not only is Brad risking jail, but Federal prison and a charge like treason could land him and/or Adam in a super max. If the situation with Iran escalates into war, then it could be aid and comfort to the enemy in time of war, which is punishable by death.

    @Parker Bena I don't think Emma will ever leave Dallas for good since she's Ann's daughter and since she's Logan's mother she and Lucas will be connected forever whether Lucas likes it or not.So i think Lucas and Emma will eventually have to find a way to get along at least where Logan is concerned.
    Also regarding Katherine's trial, if i was the Ewings i would use Katherine's trial as sort of a trap to lure Brian out of hiding because they may know Brian wouldn't be able to resist making an appearance there since so many people he hates will all be there.
    I also liked that John Ross gave Allison 24 hours to maybe tell Casey who his real mother is before he finds out some other way.Plus John Ross may not want to be the one to tear Casey's life apart.Plus John Ross can say he gave Allison the chance to do the right thing.

As for Adam Carrington, I hope the Feds nail his ass to the wall. Dealing with an embargoed nation is treason. Brad Stone could be looking at treason charges also.

Yes I do think people deserve second chances. But if Micheal and Jacob do the same thing to Casey that he did to them, they are no matter than him. Let the school counselors or something deal with him, and based on what the kid is going through, he may need to talk to a professional. His so-called mother is dead, his aunt got arrested for insider trade theft, and more charges could be added because of what Kimberly and her did with Casey. They going to hell for what they have done. The kids life is about as bad as it is right now.

    @Parker Bena I'm not condoning Casey's behavior towards both Michael and Jacob but i do wonder if he was jealous of them since they both had fathers in their lives and he didn't.However when Jill finds out that Casey is her son maybe she should take him away from Dallas for a bit at least because there might be too many bad memories in Dallas for him.Plus it might be easier for Jill to bond with Casey away from Dallas.
    As for Brad, i'm sort of worried that Adam might be setting him up as sort of a fall guy if things go wrong.Plus i'm also worried that Adam having ColbyCo dealing with Iran could come back to boomerang on Ewing Oil since John Ross got the company into business with ColbyCo.Plus considering that Ewing Oil sort of has a history of having bad dealings with other countries in terms of JR dealing with Cuba and JR hiring BD Calhoun to blow up oil fields in the Middle East Ewing Oil could be in trouble too if it comes out that ColbyCo was doing business with Iran.Ewing Oil could be seen as guilty by association.

    I’m with you Andrew Hass. I mean let’s face it, his stepdad committed suicide. Micheal has his father Lucas Ewing, and hell Jacob has two fathers in his life in Christopher Ewing and Joseph Gioberti. Christopher is the stepfather, and Joseph is the biological father. Casey on the other hand has nobody right now. And not to mention Jacob and Micheals Mother’s are alive and well. He has plenty to be jealous of Jacob and Micheal. Plus Lucas is a Ewing, and he’s rich too. Another reason. And Courtney, Heather, Lucas, and Christopher all live on Southfork. But I think that would be a good idea. Once Jill finds out that her son is alive and well, she needs to take from back to San Francisco or California or where ever she is staying these days. Get with Craig Anderson, let him know he’s the father of that child, and maybe they all can be a happy family or something. But definitely a lot of jealously and resentment there. As for what Brad has gotten him into, he’s just an idiot because he’s dealing with two snakes and that company mess with Iran, and treason, and prison, and federal prison, all of this could end badly for him because Adam could absolutely use him to be the fall guy in all this. Brad should have left things alone and know you got two or three people that want to dispose of you. Adam Carrington, John Ross, and Krystina. You have your hands full.

    @Derek Matthews i think when it all comes out about Casey it might be better at first that he's not overwhelmed about everything.So maybe at first Jill sort of takes charge of Casey and get away from Dallas for a bit and then maybe in a few months Craig can try to bond with Casey.However i;m wondering if Casey might feel closer to Craig then Jill since Jill's mom was responsible for everything that happened.Also i hope Jill doesn't try to act like Casey's mom right away but maybe just try to be his friend because despite everything Casey loved Karen and Karen was as much a victim as Jill was because she didn't know about the baby switch.As for Brad, i agree that he should have left things alone or at least not get into business with Shawn or Adam because they can't be trusted not to betray him.As for Brian Manning, i hope we get flashbacks regarding how he survived that fall into the water and if maybe he had help.As for Emma, i think she's safe for now because she's the only leverage Brian has right now.So if he kills her he loses his leverage.However that may not mean Brian won't harm Emma in some way but he may not seriously hurt her.

    That’s true at the end of the day, because Jill and Craig don’t just want to throw everything at the kid all at once. But Casey shouldn’t blame Jill because she has an evil, and deceitful mother. Jill was absolutely clueless about what her mother was doing. They were both victims at the end of the day. I think Casey, Craig, and Jill can get to know each other, and maybe as time goes by they can be a family. She definitely didn’t about any of this, and her mother is going to go to hell for this; Allison Jones too. But I know she’s going to have to spill her guts if she doesn’t want a long sentence. She might have to take a plea deal or something. But both her and Kimberly Cryder are going to be in jail for a good minute. Brad is going to end up just like his stupid father. In jail like him, or dead because he’s getting involved with two snakes that couldn’t be trusted to save. Plus he’s reigniting his feud with John Ross and wants to take down the Ewings and his family, his marriage, his relationship with his kids. You doing too much, and John Ross is going to get you. And then you got Krystina Carrington-Ewing has a score to settle with you too. Between Adam, Shawn, John Ross, and Krystina, they all have more than enough power and wealth to take you down for good. As for Brian, I really do hope we get to see how Brian survived that fall into the water because that was a load of water he was in. He had to have had help. No way he survives that on his own. And he won’t kill Emma because if he does that, he won’t get the money. We will see how this all unfolds.
